Ubuntu Networking :: List Of Kernel-supported Mobile Broadband Modems ?
Jun 4, 2010I am looking to buy my own unlocked/never-locked mobile broadband modem, and I want it to work well on my 64-bit 10.04 Ubuntu system (triple-booting MacBook 4,1). Is there a list of mobile broadband modems supported in the linux kernel out there somewhere? I did try to find one myself, but no luck. The Huawei E220 looks good, but it is discontinued.

Debian Hardware :: Looking For List Of Supported Sound Cards?
Jul 8, 2011I'd like to make a complete switch to Debian. One of the things holding me back is not knowing the state of play regarding sound card support. I've been fiddling around on and off for three years trying to get my M-Audio FireWire Solo to work in Ubuntu without much joy. I think there might be greater support for USB sound cards but I'm not certain of this. Onboard cards aren't OK because in my experience these pick up too much noise. After years of using balanced audio lines it's pretty much impossible to go back. That said, a PCIe card isn't completely out of the picture if I can get balanced outs with it.
I'm planning on plugging KRK powered monitors via XLR or TRS cables into the sound card. But my preference at this point is firmly with USB sound cards. Is there an up-to-date list I can check of supported sound cards in Debian? Can anyone here provide a testimonial of their experience? It's important to note that I'm after playback only. I don't want to record ever. That should hopefully make things easier. I'd be looking at using Debian wheezy.

Jun 22, 2010I am trying to install set up of wanpipe for E1/T1 card. First of all downloaded the source code from [URL] and did all step needed for rpmbuild and copy the source code into /usr/src/kernels. Below is kernel information uname -r 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5

Now point is when I run the ./Setup install for wanpipe its ask for path of kernel source which is present in /usr/src/kernels. its show : Kernel source 2.6.18-prep in /usr/src/kernels/kernel-2.6.18/linux-2.6.18.i686 is not supported! and set up is halted.So can somebody guide me why kernel source is not supported.

Aug 15, 2010Just upgraded my kernel to 2.6.35 and now my broadcom 57780 WLAN card is not recognized. Trying to reload the proprietary driver fails. Anybody else with this specific card got it working on 2.6.35?

how can I check, if they are supported in kernel 2.6.30? I looked at alsa page, and no information I have seen there. oldcpu, as I understund you, is not so important what audio chip is, but it is important to determine what hardware audio codec a device has, right? CentOS 5 Hardware :: Figure Out Wireless Cards Will Be Supported By The Kernel?
Jul 29, 2011Looking at getting a new laptop for some of the guys in my office, but trying to figure out if any of these wireless cards will be supported by the kernel, hoping not to do any serious kernel hacking to get them working. The cards are
- Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 802.11a/b/g/n
- Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 802.11a/b/g/n
- Dell Wireless 1501 802.11b/g/n
- Dell Wireless 1530 802.11a/g/n
If any one has experience with those cards being supported let me know, or if you know where i can find the drivers for them that'd rock too.

Aug 7, 2010I have just upgraded to 11.3 and work in icewm (I have kde apps installed but no other desktops). When I boot up the computer it gives me this console error message:

Code: sudo mount -t ext4 /dev/loop0 /media/crypt I've tried this in 10.10 and it hasn't been working (I can't remember if I did anything in 10.04 to make it work). I've installed the loop-aes-utils package and restarted my machine. Every time I try the 2nd step, after entering the password I get: Code: ioctl: LOOP_SET_STATUS: Invalid argument, requested cipher or key length (128 bits) not supported by kernel

Apr 5, 2010I am not new to Debian and used to use commands like "apt-get install <package>", "apt-get update", "apt-get upgrade" and "apt-cache search <string>" regularly. But I never understood those Debian programs and the Debian package system with it's numerous programs and way to install things and work on software and configurations. Now, I just wanted to do something that I thought to be really easy. Get the source of an existing package. And despite spending over 3 hours - including reading the man-pages of commands - I cannot find a way!
Two things:
dpkg --get-selections | grep openvz
linux-image-2.6-openvz-amd64 install
linux-image-2.6.26-2-openvz-amd64 install
I already don't understand why I have two such packages installed. I would like to download the source of my kernel: apt-get source linux-image-2.6.26-2-openvz-amd64. This downloaded linux-2.6_2.6.26-21lenny4.dsc, linux-2.6_2.6.26.orig.tar.gz and linux-2.6_2.6.26-21lenny4.diff.gz
Then, I wanted to patch this - having found no explanation, I did:
cd linux
patch < ../linux-2.6_2.6.26-21lenny4.diff
That seemed to patch the kernel. But I am not sure - there are new files like this now_

I found lots of webpages where tools like "make-kpkg" are used, which I do not understand again. Under SuSE, I could just select the package from a list, say "make oldconfig install modules modules_install" and be ready. Under Debian, I just find no way ...
General :: Compiling New Kernel - List Of Current Modules
May 25, 2011I'm trying to compile a kernel for my Crux Linux install. I figured I'd do a 'make defconfig' to setup a .config file with the default configuration and then try to add anything I will need for my specific system. I found a script that scans my system and prints out a list of any current modules I am using. That way I can make sure to add these to my new kernel. It looks something like this:

But the ones with short names I'm not finding. Like ac.ko for example. 'ac.ko' returns 0 search results and 'ac' returns anything and everything with those 2 letters in it.

Aug 23, 2010I am currently running 9.10 ubuntu (gnome). I have a dual core intel chip at 3.00 ghz. My mobo is an ASUS P5ND2-SLI. My mobo will support up to 8gb of ram. Now, as we all know, 32-bit os/kernel will only support like 3.2gb, and 64-bit like 4gb. I'd like to install a pae kernel so I can get the most from my mobo, but honestly, I don't have a clue where to start looking for a pae kernel. I'd like to be able to select it from the list that already appears after the grub loads, and if I like it, be able to remove the rest from the list, or just make it default.
Question, in CPU-G, it says my architecture is i686. I don't know if that's the os/distro, or the kernel itself. it also lists the GCC version as 4.4.1 and Xorg as 1.6.4. my current kernel is Linux 2.6.31-22-generic. Again, I'm trying to find a pae kernel, but I don't know if my os/distro will make a difference, if the architecture is the kernel or os itself. I am still fairly new to ubuntu, and I must say, I've made the switch completely from windows.. which blows...

Would it therefore be safe to remove the first kernel in the installed list to save having two kernels being updated everytime I run yum update? Or is the PAE kernel dependant upon the original?
