Hardware :: Mouse Pointer No Longer Moves After Attempted Install Of Bluetooth?
Jul 21, 2010
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop with a Synaptics touchpad. While testing an install of Bluetooth drivers I booted my computer into recovery mode so I could find out if Bluetooth worked before networking was installed. The system reconfigured the graphics to low VGA which disabled the mouse. I rebooted (normal startup) uninstalled the bluetooth drivers, but my mouse still won't work. The mouse pointer appears in the middle of the computer screen, and stays there.Enabling mouse keys support enables me to move the mouse by holding the Function key and pressing numpad characters,t this is only a temporary solution.

I have an issue with a bluetooth mouse. The mouse connects with the pc normally, and the bluetooth manager reports that the bluetooth device sends data. However, the mouse does not move the pointer, or seems to do any kind of effect on the pc.

I've set up the Apple Magic Trackpad with my dual-scren Ubuntu system, the screens of which give me combined screen resolution 3360x1050. It works basically, however the coordinate ranges are messed up, as follows.Moving my finger the bottom of the trackpad to the top, my pointer moves from bottom of display to top. However the same is true horizontally: From the left side of the trackpad to the right, the pointer moves from the left of the monitor A to the right of monitor B.Thus the speed horizontally is 3 times what it is vertically. How can I fix this? Even if I remove one monitor (no big deal) the pointer will still move 50% faster horizontally

I've installed 11.2 KDE on a very old samsung V20 specs here: [URL]... My problem is that when I boot I get a black screen with just the mouse pointer. I can boot in failsafe fine, but the graphics are horrible. My question is, is there a workaround or am I flogging a dead horse with this laptop? This is my first venture into Linux, and I was really keen on leaving windows far behind. I've tried quite a few sax2 commands to no avail.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 for about three months now (I am a total greenhorn) . A few hours ago, I decided to add the KDE 4.4 desktop environment. I followed the procedure on this link. It was all in GUI, no terminal commands required. [URL]
Installed KDE and everything is fine except two problems.
1. The KDE mouse pointer has become default in GNOME and I just can't change it. Tried everything, changing theme, customising theme and even downloaded the "mouse pointer" app from Software Centre. Nothing works.
2. I am not able to upgrade anything using Kpackagekit. It keeps telling me I don't have authorisation, without asking for my password.

I have Open Suse 11.3. I normally use GNOME or KDE sessions. Yesterday I was just thought of trying other Desktop Environments. so I logged out to choose a different session. I tried LXDE and logged back out. After that I found "metacity" in the sessions list and tried it. But no desktop appeared. All I got is black screen a with the mouse pointer/cursor. I waited for quite some time but no desktop, panel, etc loaded or was visible.
I could not figure out how to log off so I hit the start button. After reboot the system automatically chose the same session (It always reuses the last used session) and I was in the same sticky situation. I tried starting in Safe mode as well but still I get the same black screen with just the mouse pointer.

I am creating an openSUSE 11.2 Kiosk image. I have everything pretty much locked down but when I go into the gconf-editor under /apps/nautilius/preferences/show_desktop and uncheck the check box my mouse pointer changes to the circle icon that looks like it moves in a circle. Sortta like the busy or what it does during boot. Hard to describe by typing it out but if you make that change you'll see what I am talking about. I had this setup like this in previous versions of openSUSE so I am not sure what it is doing or what else I need to do to make the mouse pointer just the arrow like normally. I don't want the users to be able to right-click on the desktops to get a menu nor add icons so unchecking the show_desktop has served my needs.

when I sat down at the computer, the mouse cursor continually moves down at a constant rate. It jumps a certain distance regularly until it reaches the bottom of the screen. The mouse works generally. It moves around as I move the mouse, but there is the constant moving down, so it's pretty much unusable.I clicked all the mouse buttons, restarted the mouse.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my HP Pavilion a320n computer with a ps2 mouse and the mouse pointer points with the bottom of the mouse and not the upper tip of the point. It does the same thing with Ubuntu 10.04.1. In Windows 7 and XP the mouse is normal. I don't know how I could adjust it or is this just a bug in the OS?

I'm running FC12 and GNOME.If I move the physical mouse about one inch, the mouse pointer moves across the entire screen. That's way too fast and way to sensitive.I prefer the mouse pointer to move far less distance on the screen when the physical mouse is moved.
From System->Preferences->Mouse, I set the various mouse Pointer Speed acceleration and Sensitivity to Slow, Fast, Low, High, and and I couldn't get it any better. At the least sensitive settings. if I move the physical mouse one inch, the mouse pointer moves across the entire screen. How can make the mouse pointer less sensitive to mouse movements?

it just happened a few days ago. When i log in i pres ''Num lock'' and i type the password but after loging in the numeric keyboard won't work. I tried num lock several times but it doesn't work. It works in windows 7 so it's not a hardware problem.when i press number keys it will actualy move the mouse (8-up,6-right 2-down etc.).

I have this problem on my workstation. The computer would effectively freeze for 2-5 seconds for no apparent reason, then continue as normal. While frozen the mouse would still be movable, but only on one of screens in my multi-screen setup. What can be the likely cause.
System:
CPU: i7-920
Memory: 12G of Patriot DDR3, 6 modules
OS: SLED 11, Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop, using Gnome
Main board: Asus P6T
Video: two Nvidia 9500GT connected to three displays
I am using memory at recommended settings of 8-8-8-1333. It has an XMP profile. Th CPU is a bit overclocked to 3.3 GHz, but my cooling more than allows for it. I ran the computer with all overclocks off and lower memory speed but the issue was still there.

I'm finally switching (slowly) from KDE3 to 4 (in 11.3). There are 2
things I so far haven't figured out:
1. How do I turn off the tooltips which appear when the mouse moves over
a desktop icon?
2. How can I assign a keyboard shortcut to minimize a window?

Little background info: I have a computer where the hdd crashed. Bought a new hdd tonight and installed it. As the computer had no operating system at this point I put in a copy of the live cd and begin to install Ubuntu 9.10(32 bit)...everything went smooth with the install (at least I think). My problem is that when I get to the login screen, I click on my user name to type in my password but as soon as I click on either my user name or guest it basically freezes...Mouse still moves but can't do anything with login or the options on the bottom right of the screen...
Right when it freezes the pixels under the login box mess up, looks like some type of graphics problem?? I'm not sure, but I can't be the first person with this problem Also after it "freezes" I can't utilize the ctl+alt+f1 command either

I first noticed this problem when trying to play a first person shooter game. If I hold a key down such as "w" the mouse glitches and moves incredibly erratically when I try to look around. This happens outside of the games as well. What is the solution for this?I'd really like to be able to play an fps game.I have tried disabling compiz as well as turning off the "disable trackpad while typing" option as well.

So right after I installed 10.04 there seems to be some short of mouse/joystick mess. What I mean is that 2 types of joysticks (Saitek x52 and CH Products Yoke) seems to control the mouse as well! So when I pitch/roll the joysticks the mouse cursor also moves. When I move the middle lever of the CH products yoke, the mouse also moves horizontally. Also it is almost impossible to work with the scroll bars of windows as joysticks interacts with them via the cursor and issues botton clikcs scrolling the bars to the end! This looks to be a new issue on 10.04 as 9.10 had no such issue.

i had a bunch of documents opened and i saved one txt file. I then clicked it and dragged it to the recycle bin slowly but didnt release the button. Then the cursor just stayed like that. The cursor changed image while i was dragging it. It now remains as that image for the cursor. I can move it around but cannot click anything. If i press Alt Tab to switch to another window, it just highlights that file. I cant move about on the desktop either.

I am using a wireless Xbox 360 controller with openSUSE 11.1. I use it for some emulators and all buttons work fine. There is however an annoying problem, the Xbox controller left joystick controls the cursor and digital pad acts as mouse buttons. So while I play, the cursor moves all around the screen and bad things could happen. Why this behavior? In xorg.conf there seems to be only just 1 mouse. And if I go in Joystick via YaST, there is only a menu to select which joystick I have. But my wireless controller has been automatically detected, I didn't setup anything. Is there a config file that I can modify to stop controlling the mouse with my gamepad?

I have a Dell Vostro 1220, with Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family graphics card. I work on OpenSuse 11.3 (64bit), on the latest kde.I work on an extended 1680x1050 screen on the left of my laptop screen (1280x800). I set this with Kxrandr and it worked great,a while... Now, it shows a black band on the right side of my laptop screen. I can live with that. But the mouse does not recalculate for this difference, so that I need to click 1 inch to the right of where I want to click.

I just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

i have many mouse pointers in the .ico also .ani and .cur format from my old windows days SEE image attached would also like to make new ones and really want to turn them into a format which works on ubuntu since the choice of pointers is only 6 i found a way to install X11 cursors from gnome-look.org download then save to .icons in the hidden part (control H) of my home folder then go system/preference/appearance/customize/pointers
but even then you have to install a whole lot of files to change one pointer and i see no way of making/installing my own is there a more straightforward way? ubuntu/linux are about freedom and here i am at the moment very restricted
