Ubuntu :: X-Windows: Pointer Moves Faster Horizontally Than Vertically?

Feb 7, 2011

I've set up the Apple Magic Trackpad with my dual-scren Ubuntu system, the screens of which give me combined screen resolution 3360x1050. It works basically, however the coordinate ranges are messed up, as follows.Moving my finger the bottom of the trackpad to the top, my pointer moves from bottom of display to top. However the same is true horizontally: From the left side of the trackpad to the right, the pointer moves from the left of the monitor A to the right of monitor B.Thus the speed horizontally is 3 times what it is vertically. How can I fix this? Even if I remove one monitor (no big deal) the pointer will still move 50% faster horizontally

Ubuntu :: Resizing Windows In Evolution \ Resizing Doesn't Work And It Only Moves Horisontally, Not Vertically?

Oct 28, 2010

maybe this is something extremely simple and my brains are just mush after a whole night of struggling (and succeeding) with wifi driver issues.i'm running a brand new 10.10 netbook on a brand new asus eee 1015. i am trying to set up my email in evolution and the evolution windows are larger than the netbook screen, which means that the OK, SAVE, etc buttons are outside reach. i tried to resize, move window - resizing doesn't work and it only moves horisontally, not vertically.

General :: Merge Pdf Files Vertically AND Horizontally?

Apr 13, 2011

1. Is there an easy way to combine pdf files not only one "after" the other, but also one "next to" the other? For example, If I have one-page files called a1.pdf, a2.pdf, a3.pdf, a4.pdf, b1.pdf, b2.pdf, b3.pdf, b4.pdf, c1.pdf, c2.pdf, c3.pdf, c4.pdf, I want to combined them so that I can scroll down from a to c and scroll right from 1 to 4. That is, I want to merge them in "matrix form". If I zoom out the final file should look like:

a1 a2 a3 a4
b1 b2 b3 b4
c1 c2 c3 c4
(TWELVE pages in total)

Is this possible? I tried Google but found no information.

2. Also, is it possible to just put all of them together in a single page. If I zoom out the page should look like:

a1a2a3a4
b1b2b3b4
c1c2c3c4
(ONE page in total)

Note: I would like to do this for many one-page files

Hardware :: Mouse Pointer No Longer Moves After Attempted Install Of Bluetooth?

Jul 21, 2010

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 on a laptop with a Synaptics touchpad. While testing an install of Bluetooth drivers I booted my computer into recovery mode so I could find out if Bluetooth worked before networking was installed. The system reconfigured the graphics to low VGA which disabled the mouse. I rebooted (normal startup) uninstalled the bluetooth drivers, but my mouse still won't work. The mouse pointer appears in the middle of the computer screen, and stays there.Enabling mouse keys support enables me to move the mouse by holding the Function key and pressing numpad characters,t this is only a temporary solution.

Ubuntu :: Restore Open Windows Faster?

Jul 27, 2010

I'd like open windows to reappear from the taskbar faster. There's always a delay of at least 1 or 2 seconds between clicking on a minimized window and it being restored.

At first I assumed this was a limitation of ubuntu, but I've realised since the delay is the same across the board, regardless of the application, which makes me think it's a deliberate setting.

Am I right - and if so where can I alter it?

Ubuntu :: Windows Loading Pages Faster Using Firefox?

Oct 1, 2010

Two very simmilar laptops connected to the same WiFi router loading the same web pages. Firefox on Windows does that for 3 secons, while Firefox on Ubuntu needs 1-3 minutes to load the same page. What could be the reason for this? Any idea how to fix it? The laptop with Ubuntu runs 10.04 LTS (lucid), Firefox is 3.6.10 and on any other WiFi network it loads the web pages really faster but why is much slower than Windows now? When testing the speed on URL...Ubuntu loads times faster than Windows. The WiFi router has been reseted. Firefox has been started in -safe-mode, both didn't help.

Programming :: Programs Run Faster Than Windows?

Jul 25, 2010

I know this may be just me being a little bias on OS's but... I quite honestly believe that "some" programs run faster on linux than on windows.

Open Office for example, It runs amazingly fast on my linux distro but runs horribly (laggy) on my Vista machine.

Firefox also appears to run faster on my linux machine than on my Vista machine.

There are several more examples but I could go on and on with this.

My point is, do programs run faster on linux than on windows? Or is it just me that is in denial?

I am not sure if comparing linux to Vista is a good comparison in terms of program speed or not...

Also it should be noted that the Vista machine "hardware" is "several" times faster than my linux machine's "hardware".

I am not trying to start a flame war or anything like that, I am just trying to make sure I haven't totally lost my mind.

Software :: Why Do Windows Applications Start Faster

Jan 12, 2010

I noticed that on Linux, applications are much, much smaller but they take forever to start sometimes (namely, OpenOffice). However, MS Office starts up super fast, but I see it is huge (it needs 2GB to install).

Is there a trade-off between size and start time? If so, is it possible to "enlarge" some of my programs so they would start faster? I have plenty of unused disk space, and a few larger programs wouldn't really hurt.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Upgrade Gives Strange Mouse Pointer And Windows

Sep 10, 2010

I just upgraded my 9.10 on my laptop to 10.04. I seems to have gone well except for one annoying problem. when I boot up I get a large X for the mouse pointer instead of the normal arrow. When I start an application it will not go to full screen and there are no close/minimise/maximise options. Nor can I get to the top or bottom menu bars.

I can cure this on a temporary basis by right-clicking on the desktop and changing the visual effects from none to normal. The problem is that it does not stick. Each time I boot up I have to make this change.

Ubuntu :: Document Viewer Not Scrollable Horizontally?

May 30, 2011

I am actually impressed with the innovation with scrollbars in Natty. However, when I'm using Ubuntu Classic, I cannot scroll document viewer horizontally because the handle gets under the lower panel (see screenschot attached)I have read somewhere that the new scrollbar is meant to save space, and the handle will automatically appear when hovered: the handle will appear outside the window if the window is smaller than the screen, and inside if the window or document is maximized or no space left outside the window. In my case, even if the document viewer (which is viewing a pdf) is maximized, the horizontal scrollbar still appears below the document. I needed to remove the lower panel just to scroll the document horizontally.

OpenSUSE :: Any Possibility To Split Dolphin Horizontally

Aug 6, 2010

I might become a new kde4 user within a few weeks since I am testing suse 11.3 and kde4 seems to be, at last, stable enough to be used daily. But, there is one thing that is annoying : I used to split horizontally and vertically ad lib the konqueror file manager to drag and drop any file from a directory to another and have a global view of many directories simultaneously. That great feature doesn't seem to be available in dolphin, which is a good and performant file manager that I'd like to adopt. Any clue to split horizontally dolphin? Plugin? Script? Repository?

Can I just delete Lancelot setting file to reset it? It seems I could not find where the settings are.

General :: Screen Is Off Vertically By A Number Of Pixels?

Feb 16, 2010

Having recently installed puppy linux (pup431) on my sony pcg-c1mah laptop with a monitor of 1280x600, I am absolutely in love with it. It is so fast and smooth. However, there is one problem, the screen position is shifted up vertically, off by a few pixels (30 maybe). This makes most of the application partially off the screen, which is really annoying. Previously, I was able to install xubuntu (8.04) on it without any problem. The screen was perfectly positioned. It was the speed reason I decided to go for puppy linux. If xubuntu was able to set the screen correctly, why puppy linux can not.

Basically, moving the cursor horizontally takes less effort than moving it vertically. It feels as though there are separate axes for sensitivity and I don't know how to configure them. how to make it be normal again? (In Lenny, it was perfectly fine.)

Debian Installation :: Display Oscillates Horizontally 2px Wide (Intel)

Aug 30, 2015

I'd like to install Debian on Lenovo Z70-80 notebook (Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2) integrated + NVIDIA Geforce 840M, 17" 1920x1080 IPS).

The installer's screen is OK, but after install, when the screen switches to higher resolution: the notebook's internal screen starts to oscillate fast. Not the whole screen in one block, but line by line: moving 2 px to left, and back, with ~10Hz. I can read everything, but it's very disturbing of course.

If I connect an external display, there is no oscillation, but sometimes lost signal (black screen for a half second), or if I drag and move a window, the backgound changes, big pixels will appear, etc.

I tried it with Windows 7 and Ubuntu: there wasn't any problem, so I think the hardware is OK. (But I had the some problem with CentOS 7.)

I tried the 340.65 Nvidia driver ([URL].... ), although may be this is the integrated Intel card's problem.

I tried this too: [URL].... but I'm not sure I made everything correct (I'm new in Linux).

Fedora :: Print - Second Page Is Mirrored Vertically And Rotated Wrong

Apr 10, 2010

I have been searching for an answer to this, and have come up dry.

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 a909a. It was working fine until recently. Now when I go to print duplex, the second page is mirrored vertically and rotated wrong.

I suspect that a recent update to HPLIP has caused this, but there may be something else in play with the GS utilities also. The problem is that I have no idea about how to fix this. I was hoping an update would show up and a simple "yum -y update) would fix things. That still has not happened.

I am a student and would like to save paper, at least with my draft copies, but this makes duplex printing impossible.

I however, desire the BOOTSPLASH. or whatever it is, of openSUSE 11.1. the green with white veins in the background, and a strip of black running horizontally across, with "openSUSE" written on it in white. i mean the one that masks the initial Text interface, the FIRST GUI you see after GRUB. The one that also shows when you power down. Is this a plausible endevour? I do have my 11.1 iso, in case it's stored as a theme in there.
