General :: WiFi USB Driver - Running Ubuntu 9.10 On HP Pavilion Notebook

Feb 11, 2010

I have an LM Technologies 54Mbps wifi usb adapter. This is because my wireless section on my motherboard does not work. The drivers on the installation disk do not automatically install for linux. Looking at the manual I have to build the device driver. On the page is computer programing formulie that looks like a foreign language. I do not know computer programing. At the bottom of the page it says:-

Install individual driver
If you only need driver of ZD1211 or ZD1211B you can issue:
make clean
make ZD1211REV_B=0(0 for ZD1211,1 for ZD1211b)
make ZD1211REV_B=0 install(o for ZD1211,1 for ZD1211B
to install the driver.

Then it says:- Build the debugging tool. There are two debugging tools in this package,"apdbg" and "menudbg". Run"make debug" to complete them both. If you do not have ncurse library, you may get some error messages while compiling meudbg. you can ignore it and get apdbg only. It goes on and on about network interface, configure wireless settings.

Fedora Installation :: Notebook HP Pavilion DV8000 - Keyboard Layout?

Apr 11, 2009

I used to have F9 on my HP pavilion dv8000. I have been trying to install F10 (and even CentOS 5.3) on it and, during the installation process, when I choose the keyboard layout (english) it doesn't go on. Weird because I am using the same disk I successfully used to install F10 on my desktop. What could it be? The same problem happens when I make the installation process in text mode...

General :: Driver Support For HP Pavilion Dm1-2020eo?

Sep 21, 2010

First of all, I have not tried to install anything yet, just doing some research. I recently bought a HP notebook with the intention of installing Linux (I was thinking Ubuntu?) on it, and in my ignorance I assumed that driver support for Linux wouldn't be a problem. Alas, I have some difficulties finding out how to proceed with the installation.

The laptop I bought is a HP Pavilion dm1-2020eo, however it seems it is a region specific model, as I couldn't find it on HP's UK/US sites. Here is a link to the Norwegian description; I am sure you can figure out what the specifications are (don't know if they are relevant at all, though, heh).I couldn't find the model in this list, Windows drivers can be found here. I realise this whole post is a mess, however I hope someone is able point me in the right direction. (On a side note, does anyone know a good guide for building a boot disc/USB stick so I can customize the distro with drivers, partition tools etc?)

I have been using windows operating system for a long time now, but I am not well familiar with linux. Whenever I used to install Windows, I used to install the corresponding audio drivers(in order to listen to the music). The problem I am facing is that I do not know how to install the audio drivers(if they really exist in linux Mint 10 operating system). As a result I am not able to listen to any audio file due to lack of corresponding audio driver programs. make proper configurations settings so that I can listen to audio files in Linux Mint version 10.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 9.10 Change Audio Driver To HD-ATI-SB (used In 9.04)?

Jan 11, 2010

This is my 2nd try with 9.10 and audio has this screeching thingie that its driving me crazy. I've been using both 8.10 and 9.04 with perfect sound and everytime I come into 9.10 I have this horrorific sound that no matter what I do I can't fix it. In a thread somebody suggested to change the audio channels from 5.1 to 7.1 (which made sense since my hardware really is 7.1). but there's no 7.1 option available.

When I do lspci -v... I can see that:

Code:

Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 82fe
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Audio Driver Not Initializing After Every Boot Up?

Jan 8, 2010

openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 (ADM64), KDE4 (everything is up to date) ...

As in the Subject, after the machine boots up and I'm logged in, there is no sound using local software (video or audio, such as VLC) or web-based (as in Pandora, ....., etc).

So I have to bring up Yast -> Hardware -> Sound, then Delete the current driver, then select "Add" to re-add it ... it detects the hardware fine, and sets up the sound driver, and I then get sound. However, when I shut down the machine and eventually fire the machine back up, no sound.

Driver: snd_intel8x0
Controller: CK804 AC'97 (onboard nVidia chipset)

I ran dmesg and saw nothing out of the ordinary. All appropriate files/entries exist in /etc/modprobe.d/

What can I do so that the driver is loaded at each startup?

I had a response out in alt.os.linux.suse who said the problem went away when they switched to GNOME ... so is this possibly a KDE issue? (I haven't tried restarting and running GNOME versuse KDE).

Hardware :: Audio Driver Not Working ( MSI Wind U135 )?

Jul 12, 2010

I bought an MSI Wind U135 Netbook. It came with Windows 7 Starter, so I installed Xubuntu and Enlightenment first thing. I have gotten everything to work except for the audio. It seems that there is an audio driver installed and in use (The Intel HD Audio driver), however, I can turn all channels up and nothing plays. The beep driver works, and if I turn the Microphone channels up too high then I get loud feedback from the speakers, but nothing else will play. I have tried multiple kernels, including from Ubuntu Netbook edition. All have the same problem. I was unable to determine what audio card is actually present in the machine, MSI's website is a pain, and I couldn't find anything conclusive online. I purchased the laptop in Taiwan, but I believe it is the same as the US version hardware-wise, except for the Chinese on the keyboard obviously.

Software :: Qsynth - Failed To Create Audio Driver (ALSA)

Feb 11, 2010

I've installed both fluidsynth and qsynth, but get this error everytime I run qsynth. I'm trying to use my m-audio keyrig 49 just to practice playing the piano. I don't really care about having a whole DAW and whatever, I just want to play my keyboard. Maybe there is a better way than qsynth? Also, this happens:

Code:
/etc/rc.d/rc.alsa restart
Loading ALSA mixer settings: /usr/sbin/alsactl restore
No state is present for card K49
[code]....

I don't know that it has to do with my qsynth problem or not. I just thought I'd throw it in just in case it does. Also, xmms recognizes my keyboard in the alsa preferences, where the mixer device is.

Fedora :: F12 On HP Pavilion Laptop

Mar 21, 2010

Atlast after a long time thinking and concerns I made it ... installed F12 on HP Pavilion using a LIVE CD ... I got a AMD turion 64 X2 with a NVIDIA graphics card (7200M this is what it says in VISTA) I am more than satisfied with F12 on my HP ... this is first time I am using Linux on LAPTOP and my previous usage is purely on desktops and have some good touch with F9 and still continuing with it. I have few doubts At present I guess I am using Nouveau drivers for my Nvidia graphics card. But I hear from communities people complaining of HIGH TEMPERATURES as open source drivers for NVIDIA are not good enough (NVIDIA doesnt release much info on them). So should I change my NVIDIA drivers to proprietary one? Any tips or gnome settings on LAPTOPS to best utilize all the resources without burning out things?

Ubuntu :: HP Pavilion DV7-4150ea?

Jul 12, 2011

I wonder if anybody could possibly help me with my new laptop. I bought a new HP Pavilion DV7-4150ea about a month ago with windows 7 x64 cough cough, hate windows and would love to be able to get Ubuntu 11.04 working on my laptop or any other version that will be ok.

What happens, when I install either live usb or install to hard drive from DVD, it locks up when I do a restart or shut down, it all seems OK until then.

Could it be the video cards installed on this laptop, as there is two 1 x 1GB ATI Mobility HD 5650 and 1 x Intel HD Graphics. Any help would be great as I love Linux and prefer it to windows every time.

If you need more info then please ask, love to get this working with linux.

When I move, the cursor disappears. The display never progresses past the splash and no progress bar appears. When I boot in safemode, it works, but the display is slow and jerky. This is such a show stopper for me that I had to revert to 11.3 which does not like my touchpad.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound In 9.10 On HP Pavilion Dv6

No errors, no sound. I checked KMix and alsamixer. All channels are unmuted and turned up. I've also tried the headphone jack, and there's no sound there, either. It works fine if I boot into Windows. Here's the output from alsa-info.sh: [URL]... I would also like Amarok to work, too. I had problems in the past getting it to output sound.

Ubuntu :: Touchpad On Pavilion Dm4 - Can't Right Click

Nov 28, 2010

Excuse the horrid formatting, this was copy/pasted from the #ubuntu IRC and to be extremely honest I can't be bothered to remove every space. I have a Pavilion dm4 and it has two areas on the bottom of the touchpad to designate right and left clicks. This mostly doesn't work on Ubuntu in the fact that it recognizes any taps on either tap zone as a left click. Instead, I have it set so if I tap anywhere on the pad it makes a left click. There should be, and there are, many ways in the mouse configuration window to simulate a right click using only a touchpad. None of these work. Changing mouse orientation doesn't do anything, "dwell click" also does nothing,

and, the oddest part of this problem, whenever I try to turn "Simulated Secondary Click" off (it doesn't work anyways, but just to try to toggle it), the entire theme of my desktop changes to a gray Windows '95ey look. The only way to get rid of this is to close and reopen the mouse preferences window. My computer is fairly new and the Ubuntu installation is less than a day old. I didn't do anything that I think could cause this. The problem is that I can't right click. Afterword: I installed two scripts from [URL]. They didn't do anything I couldn't already do, and they did not make it possible for me to right click.
