I have an asus p5gv-mx motherboard with ADI AD1986A audio chip. Everything so far works great except the audio input. The mic does not work. It works under windows, not ubuntu. I have almost no linux experience.

I need to set the default input device to be the microphone on my webcam for when I skype, but it seems to keep resetting itself, so I keep going in and changing it.
I am right clicking the volume icon and going into Sound Prefs -> Input, and selecting the camera.
How do I stop it from forgetting this and resetting it?
I would like to watch a baseball game on TV, but listen to the radio broadcast. The TV is about 10 seconds behind the radio, though.Does anyone know a way to delay the input from my radio by 10 seconds and output it again to the speakers? I can do this on Mac OS X or Linux (or even Windows). I have Audio Hijack Pro, but there is no such effect.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to take an audio feed from a stereo amplifier into my HP Pavilion DV6 laptop, in order to digitally record some old vinyl.
In the Sound Preferences tab, I seemed to be able to record easily from the internal mic, but there seemed to be no easy way to switch the preferences to enable recording from the Line In socket on the laptop.
We tried muting the mic, this only caused the system to record nothing. We also tried all the various available options in "the Hardware Profiles" tab, "Settings for the available device", but no the laptop seemed to be getting no "line in" input with whatever profile we tried.
On Mac, it was as simple as switching the input sound preferences from "internal mic" to "line in".
I am attempting to connect a bluetooth headset to a Telex Intercom System. I can connect my bluetooth headset to Ubuntu and use the microphone and the speaker perfectly. There are no problems with the Line-In or the Line-Out.
Is there any way to connect the BT-Microphone to the Line-Out while connecting the Line-In to the BT-Speaker?
No audio input device can be found in sound preference>input but in sound preference>hardware>it shows the input webcam recorder device.

For some reason on any application that uses sound, but doesn't allow me to specify the input/output audio devices I don't get anything. I want all audio to go to my USB Headset, and not the onboard soundcard. To start off with, here's alsamixer: Here's a screenshot from Mumble (voice chat) that shows that I've set the USB headset device in there, and it works 100% fine on Mumble.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu (Studio) 10.04 (kernel name reads "2.6.32-25-preempt"), and I am having a problem with applications that send audio over network connections (skype, google voice, etc.)- the audio that comes out on the other line sounds like small periodic blips. I figure this must be some kind of clocking mismatch or something?
- I can record audio just fine using audacity or other recording interfaces.
- All forms of audio output, including skype and google voice, work just fine (I can hear the person on the other line, but they can't hear me).
How to adjust whatever settings I need to make this work?

I have a TV card connected to my Dish box, and I would like to use it on my computer. The tv card works fine, and the audio is connected to my line in. The audio card receives the audio signal, and I can set the volume and record it without any problem, but I can't get it to redirect to an output in order to hear the sound. I have been battling with this issue since a kernel update back when 11.2 was about to come out. Back then, the alsa mixer had an option called audio loop-back, which did the trick. Since I know I ca record the audio and play it back without any problem, is there an application that can do this automatically and simultaneously?

On lucid, it keeps resetting it to the microphone jack at the back of the computer (While I have a webcam up and running that it knows is what I use. How can I get it to remember my audio input? View 8 Replies View RelatedI use a Logitech USB headset with microphone at work for phone conferencing, and for some reason whenever I restart Ubuntu (and sometimes seemingly at random times), the settings for the audio input device revert to the defaults (the internal audio hardware).I can always reset it back to the USB headset by going to the sound configuration menu (Preferences -> Sound -> Input), but if any applications that use a microphone are already running, they will need to be restarted in order to make use of the newly configured input device.

All such conversions doesnt produce any *.flac file. It seems flac doesnt accept minus sign for the standard input although flac manual allows to use it.
So my question is how I can use the standard input in order to decode audio data with flac?
I'm a new user of Linux and just recently installed Debian 8 on my computer, an Emachines W3118. My problem is that the audio went out a couple of days ago and I don't know WHY it went out, no audio, and HOW to get it back on. I tried several command line methods that didn't work, probably because they didn't completely relate to the problem with me being a Linux beginner and all. When I manually turn the knob on the speaker up, I can hear noise to where the speakers sound like they're physically operational, but with no output or input.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

May be I did a bit too much: I resized the Win partition (wit Ubuntu Installation tools) and Win was not shut down but in sleep mode.Now in grub I can choose between Ubuntu, memtest and "Windows Recovery Environment" - first time Win came up fine (continued the session). After I shut windows down, it does not boot correctly (shutdown after half way Win boot).

I am a PHP developer.I have always used XAAMP(in Windows7) for development purpose. I am driven to turn to Linux now . I have installed Ubuntu10.04-rev189(Wubi) in Windows7 recently. I have a PHP script which require the following tasks to be performed.
1. Give permissions "777" to the following files and folders:_cache media images /configs.php mages/config_photo_preview.jpg
2. Set up cron jobs on your site like this: /usr/local/bin/php -q /your-site-root-dir/cron/index.php I need to get an environment like XAAMP and perform the above mentioned tasks.
I have read that installing ubuntu 10.10 will inevitably install grub2 with it(unless you use flash drive workaround). i am wondering how slackware 13.1 reacts to grub2.
Does it go on like nothings changed (if configured correctly)? Or does it freak out and have a fit? If slackware doesn't play nice with grub2. i don't think i will use ubuntu 10.10.
