I have downloaded and successfully installed oracle 10g expressedition,but i cant configure it, when i executed this cmd"/etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure" showed an error "bash:/etc/init.d/oracle-xe: No such file or directory"onfigure it,started using ubuntu few days before only, i dnt like togo to windows for using oracle.

I have got two egg format files <birdsuite-1.0-py2.5.egg and mpgutils-0.7-py2.5.egg> ,and intended to install on my ubuntu 10.10 platform.Following the instructions googled on the web,the steps as follows:

May be I did a bit too much: I resized the Win partition (wit Ubuntu Installation tools) and Win was not shut down but in sleep mode.Now in grub I can choose between Ubuntu, memtest and "Windows Recovery Environment" - first time Win came up fine (continued the session). After I shut windows down, it does not boot correctly (shutdown after half way Win boot).

I am a PHP developer.I have always used XAAMP(in Windows7) for development purpose. I am driven to turn to Linux now . I have installed Ubuntu10.04-rev189(Wubi) in Windows7 recently. I have a PHP script which require the following tasks to be performed.

2. Set up cron jobs on your site like this: /usr/local/bin/php -q /your-site-root-dir/cron/index.php I need to get an environment like XAAMP and perform the above mentioned tasks.
I have read that installing ubuntu 10.10 will inevitably install grub2 with it(unless you use flash drive workaround). i am wondering how slackware 13.1 reacts to grub2.
Does it go on like nothings changed (if configured correctly)? Or does it freak out and have a fit? If slackware doesn't play nice with grub2. i don't think i will use ubuntu 10.10.
Well I use Ubuntu 10.04 and I loved everything about it . But I really dont like the dull purple color scheme of Ubuntu . I wish it had colorful and sleek outlook .I dont liked default themes of ubuntu either .

Ok, this ol' fudge is trying to figure out how to save some files to a Live Thumbdrive USBboot of Kiwi10.08 which is running on the Ubuntu 10.04.1 desktop. Using the included File Manager, I can access the fat32 USB flashdrive, read the folder named "Buk" I created in XP at the root of the drive and displayed as "isodevices/Buk" when viewed through "System Files" or "Files System", which ever it is. The options to copy/move itesm to that folder are greyed out or missing. Both copy and move options seem to work as normal otherwise on the desktop. I should check and see if it is even saving/modifying items there but I would almost guess to be correct in saying... NO! As i said this is a kind of Live boot from the Kiwi ISO.I was told about "Chown" but I have not a clue of it and the Wiki just made my head ring.One more question, where can I find a good ol' Linux Dunce Reference that wont confuse you more. Don't get me wrong, I tried math for dummies once, it confused me more, so I re-wrote the pages as I went, or thats what we're suppose to do ?
I just tried UB10's Startup Disk Creator under Admin drop down to install Ultimate Edition 26 and it worked like a charm. Now I have this distro. on a USB stick and can install it for friends rather than via disk. Also helpful for those with netbooks who do not have a CD/DVD reader. It was surprisingly painless and very fast
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu Lucid formatted ext3. It boots with Grub (old Grub) in sdb6 (hd1,5) It mounts at /, and its partition, sdb6. is flagged boot.
I created a new partition for Fedora 13, 64bit. I installed Fedora in sdb8 (hd1,7), formatted ext4, and created a separate /home in sdb7, formatted ext3, so I might share it with Ubuntu, in sdb6.
Fedora installed with Grub2. It booted fine, and after adjusting references in fstab Ubuntu booted OK too, but rather roughly.
That is when I shifted the boot flag to the Ubuntu partition. So now the original Ubuntu Grub is handling boot once again. Ubuntu boots as before, but I can't get Ubuntu's Grub to boot Fedora. An earlier post suggested this code, which generated error 13, Invalid or inappropriate executable:

I've got alternative lines invoking the kernel, because someone had suggested omitting the direct reference to root= ....
Either way I get error 2 - Bad File or directory.
I suspect the problem may be that I'm booting Grub in an ext3 partition and trying to invoke Fedora in an ext4 partition. Does anyone know if that is the likely cause of my problem? If so I can reinstall Fedora formatted ext3.
Alternatively, can I create a Fedora /boot partition, and move/reinstall Grub there? Either way -- should I use old Grub, so both Grubs are the same?
Should I have assigned mount points to sdb8 (Fedora) and sdb7 (home)? Currently I'm not using sdb7 at all.

kpilot worked just fine with my Palm Tungsten T3 on OpenSuse 10.3. I recently upgraded to 11.2 and have had numerous problems. It took me a while to get the hardware talking (documented in another thread), but now the sync is proving to be problematic. A hotsync happens - and I can also sync fully with jpilot, but the sync isn't going anywhere. I'm hoping to sync with kontact, but it's impossible to tell as kpilot hangs whenever I try to configure the conduits through the "Configure kpilot" menu item. When syncing, the log complains of missing conduits:

For installing barnyard, after the tar command it says to perform a ./configure --enable-mysql The --enable-mysql does not work: configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-mysql --with-mysql does work. Is there a difference? Next, using --with-mysql, I get a failure at the end:

Alright setting up a friends netbook, display has been a little iffy (slow. glxgears is giving like 100fps). Couple issues: xorg.conf doesn't exist (i know thats typically not an issue) and "sudo xorg -configure" and "sudo xorg --configure" both return "xorg command not found."
glxinfo say that its using Mesa for the software rasterizer and that the driver is from mesa. lspci says the VGA controller is from Intel. I'm thinking xorg is defaulting to vesa for drivers, but I need to know how to change that to the open source intel driver
I'm using BT5 with KDE on my laptop and actually quite like it (KDE that is, liking BT5 goes without saying ) and have managed to disbale most of the eye-candy but couple things remain that I haven't figured out:
1- How do you disable all transition effects (e.g. menus fading away and having shadows)? (I already got all window manager, composition(?) effects disabled and set the overall system to "Low CPU, Very High Resolution".)
2- The "Windows flag" key is mapped to Meta so it can't be assigned as "Open KMenu" - key, I'm not too keen on re-assigning it to F14 or something so the question is, what key combo you got to open the application menu?
3- In XFCE (and other "alternative" DMs), you can have full application menu on right-click when pointer is over the desktop, is that possible to do on KDE?

This monitor used to do 1920x1440 and beyond, and do 1280x1024 at >100 HZ (120 IIRC) Now it won't go >85 HZ at any resolution and won't go >60 HZ at >1600x1200. The options are missing in the KDE system settings
