View 3 RepliesI've ran into something rather odd. I've installed wine and Office 2007. If I am to open a office 2003 (doc) or office 2007 (docx) file, it will open wine and office 2007 to edit the file. This is the desired behaviour. If I am to open an office 2003 (doc) file in firefox, openoffice will be opened. If I am to do the same with an office 2007 (docx) file, wine and office 2007 will open.where to start to get wine/office 2007 to open files from firefox?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOne of my classes refuses to use any program other than MS Word 2007 for lab reports, because the reports have to be submitted electronically and they want to use Word to make comments, etc. I tried suggesting Latex or Open Office, but nobody seems to want to cooperate. So, I've attempted to install MS Office 2007 through Wine 1.2 for Ubuntu 10.04. The problem I've having is that the applications (Word, Excel) will open, but the top portion of the software with all the menus and tool bars does not appear.

I recently downloaded Microsoft Office 2010 and opened it with Wine (read it was the best and easiest to use) after a few seconds I get an error message asking me to install msxml 6.10.1129.0, So I did some further research and found a bunch of links for download but from experience I did not attempt any as I know my PC can get infected. What's the actual command I run to run OOo developer version download: OpenOffice.org Developer Builds and Release Candidates the last entry, "Snapshot...". I'm curious to see if some of the bugs they are saying are fixed are fixed in that version. I have it installed, and I know they do not have "desktop-integration" for a reason, but they don't actually tell you what the physical terminal command to run it is.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem running a game on a fresh Slackware64 install.
Slack version is 13.37
I've followed alien bobs instructions for a multilib environment from here:[url]
And then used sbopkg to download and compile wine version 1.2.2, which went through just fine.
After that I grabbed cabextract from sbopkg and ran this: wget [url] sh winetricks d3dx9 To get the DX9.
But, when I try to run the game, this is the error I get:

The game it self ran perfectly on the 32 bit version of Slackware, tested with 13.0. So now I think I'm missing some libs or something, but I have no clue which.
I've been thinking recently about switching to Ubuntu as my full time OS, BUT I still like aspects of windows, and want to use some of its features. My question is this to you:Is there any way (and if so, how?) for me to run Windows 7 natively on Ubuntu as well as seamlessly using wine?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have done a bit of research on WineHQ and other places, but cannot seem to get Office to install. I am running openSUSE 11.2 and from what I have read, Office should install and run without issue. I have a relatively fresh install, but had added the winetricks (with lots of errors and no success) and then afterward uninstalled wine and reinstalled. (I hope that makes sense). After installing Wine the first time, I could get to about 2/3 installed before wine crashed. Now after the reinstall It crashes almost immediately after the install process begins.
View 9 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I started an unattended install of MS office 2007 by mistake (didn't have the keyboard captured into a windows VM running at the time). For some reason the office installer didn't want to uninstall it and kept crashing even after trying various things to try and get it to uninstall it never did. I then deleted the .wine directory and uninstalled wine via synaptic which got rid of office but didn't get rid of the firefox problem that I'm having. Now whenever I download a word (.doc/.docx and I'm assuming other MS office files).
it tries to open in Microsoft office word which now longer exists on my system with no option to open the doc in OO which I would like it to do. I have been through most of the file extensions for office 2007 and managed to change them back to open in OO in gnome but firefox still thinks that office exists on the system even if a new FF profile is used. Any ideas to what it could be and how I change it back or will I have to reimage my system? Running ubuntu 10.04 amd64 with the stock version of open office.
How do I install Microsoft Office with Wine? I have wine downloaded.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Linux Mint installed on my wife's laptop along with Wine/Office 2003. (she wants MS Office!). Here's the issue: She pulls up a word document in MS Word that has graphics in it. When she prints to her HP 2600N laser printer, the graphics do not print out. She also has blank boxes on the 2nd page that print out solid black. If we open the same document in OpenOffice, it prints fine....but she still wants to use MS Office!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI noticed that the fonts for Office 2007 look shabby. I am not taking about anti-aliasing or subpixel hinting; but the general appearance of the applications in not even close to what I am used to in Windows. I'll show what I mean through some screen shots below. The text for different options in the ribbon looks awful. Compare this with windows and the text is clearly legible.
Same goes for the advanced options and other interfaces in Office 2007 under Wine. [URL]... when I type in some text in word, the default font (Calibri - Size 11) at 100% zoom looks awful. Here is the comparison of Linux with Windows7: [URL]... I would like to mention here that I have excellent font rendering in other native Linux applications like Firefox and Open Office. I know that users of Ubuntu and LinuxMint do not face this issue... I have seen many video and screenshots where the installation on Linux looks as good as that on Windows. Additionally, I was going through some of the treads on this forum and I realised this was an OpenSuse centric issue. Subpixel Hinting Packages (Ubuntu Lucid Patches) are now available for 11.3.
how well does Microsoft Office 2007 work under WINE? My mother is a school teacher for younger children, so she really only needs Microsoft Office 2007 and a browser. For the life of me, I've never met anyone that gets more viruses and problems with her computer. So I'm wondering if I can switch her over to Linux and use Microsoft Office 2007 in WINE. OpenOffice isn't a possibility, I'm already pushing it asking her to learn how to use Linux. (I know it isn't hard, I use it myself, but she will fight to the death about using Microsoft Office) So how's Office in WINE?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Debian Squeeze (6.0.1) 64-bit and I'm trying to run Microsoft Office 2007 (due to formatting issues with OpenOffice) through Wine (version 1.0.1 from the repositories). I followed the instructions over here but when I try to run the setup I get an error box with the following message:
Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. An error occurred during the installation, and setup was unable to complete. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. And there are two button: "Send Error Report" and "Don't Send". And the installation is aborted. Is there anyway to make this run?
I am currently using Squeeze 32 bit with both gnome and KDE desktops. I have a legitimate office disk, and wanted to use MS word for work due to formatting glitches in Open Office. However squeeze says the disk is corrupt and refuses to progress. This is not so as the same disk works fine in aptosid and Kubuntu. So wine is not very useful in Squeeze whilst it behaves like this. After all it is I suspect it at least should be able to install MS word, though of course no updates are given by MS as it hates wine. Both Gnome and KDE gave the same results, as user or root. I wonder if anything else can be done to Wine to make it work. Perhaps it is something to do with the "free" kernel, I only speculate. Otherwise Squeeze is going very well.

View 11 Replies View RelatedMy current setup is:
* Dual GTS 250 video cards
* 3 Monitors
* Used nvidia-settings to run each monitor as a separate x session
* This is all running on Linux Mint Debian Edition
When running games (Starcraft II) in Wine via PlayOnLinux, I've found that the mouse does not get locked. I already tried various solutions littered across the web and none work so I'd rather just disable my other two monitors while playing. Does anyone know of a method where I can turn off my other two monitors (not my primary monitor) while running Wine and then turn then back on afterwards? I don't mind having to manually run a script before and after gaming.
This is the output of my xrandr for each of my monitors (I get a different xrandr depending on which X session (i.e. monitor) I try xrandr on):
Primary Monitor
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 175, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 1920 x 1080
default connected 1920x1080+0+0 0mm x 0mm .....
Second Monitor
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 1: minimum 320 x 240, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1024
default connected 1280x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm .....
Third Monitor
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 2: minimum 320 x 175, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1024
default connected 1280x1024+0+0 0mm x 0mm .....
I could not figure out from the above outputs what I should be using for the --output flag. I assumed it was default and tried the following:
~ $ xrandr --output default --off
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
But as you can see, it didn't work. Additionally, since all three xrandr outputs list the monitor as default, I wouldn't know how to turn my other monitors back on afterwards (if the command did work). Do you know what might be wrong in my nvidia-settings or what else I could try?
I have 32 gigabytes of my hard drive wasted with a vistool installation a flaky don't look at me wrong or I will brake and you will have to reinstall me stinking winbloze
simple I want to fly my radio controlled helicopter and both programs that configure the radio transmitter so it talks sense to the model are windoze only almost (the wrong driver for the interface cable came with it the driver crashed and scrambled the configuration of the transmitter) the lesson here is XP drivers DO NOT! work with Vis-Stool
One of them will run on .NET (for windoze) and wine (I have no idea of how to install .net for linux ) it just dose not talk to the interface cable witch has a linux kernel module and connects the cable to /dev/ttyUSB0
Is there a way to make /dev/ttyUSB0 show up as a COM4 in wine.
Does anyone know if there is an open source equivalent of a Microsoft Office journal that can be used with Fedora (11)?
