View 11 RepliesI wanted to log some messages on Apache. So I added in VirtualHost definition
Code:
CustomLog /var/log/apache2/site-resp_log resp
LogFormat "%{X-Forwarded-For} %D %t %T %v %O %b %A %B" resp
and restarted apache2.
I got following error
Code:
* Restarting web server apache2
Syntax error on line 33 of /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/site.com:
Unrecognized LogFormat directive % [fail]
root@server:/var/log/apache2# vi /etc/apache2/sites-available/sites.com
Here is a page I referred to. I am not able to understand the syntax error.
Do you know some source that has statistics/estimations about this?
Any sound guesses?
In my sudoers file, there are lines that begin with #, lines that begin with % and lines that begin with neither. The # is definitely being used to comment out lines, but what does the % do? Is it a comment marker too?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am in need to create a script that queries how large a partition is and when it hits a certain percentage (say 90%) it will execute another script that tars up certain files (or they could just be part of the same script). I would create a cronjob that runs this script once a day.
I have the script that tars up the files I need, sets permissions, etc. (btw, the files in question are audit logs). I just need the part that runs something like a df -h and takes the use percentage of the /var partition in that query and if that percentage is greater than/ equal to 90%, it kicks off the tar script.
Here is a sniplet of the df -h with just the /var partition shown:
Quote:
So, when the cronjob sees that the Use% is >= 90%, it would kick off the tar script...if not above 90%, it closes.
Is it true that I can safely set reserved blocks percentage to 0% on some ext4 partition which contains only my personal data but no OS files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy configuration is as Follows:
Intel Pentium Dual core 2.6 Ghz
4 GB DDR2 Apacar 800 Mhz RAM
Gigabyte ATI Radeon 5450 HD GPU
I'm using Fedora 14 KDE but on startup it uses 40% of my processor. I'm using the proprietary 10.12 AMD ATI Linux Driver. I'm only using blur and woobly windows effect and I'm using OpenGL. Kubuntu/Suse never gave me this trouble. Even GNOME doesn't only KDE and fedora 14 is troubling me.
I know how to set and have set my net-book gz5 running on lucid to stay on at all times.however unlike in xubuntu I don't have the option to change when the computer is critically low. I don't have the room to install xubuntu with my preferred gnome desktop wondered if anyone out thee knows where if there is a .config file that I can dictate the percentage of battery life before being considered critically low. ei now it seems to consider itself low at 15% which robs me of about 2 hours of usage id like to set it around 1%
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy old PC has new life thanks to Ubuntu 9.1. However, a few small problems still remain:
1. D-Link wireless adapter: My wireless connection percentage never seems to get higher than 70%, even though the wireless router is right outside the door. And to top it off, I can see other neighbor's networks and the signal strength is higher! I am running ndiswrapper if that helps, and the connection is WPA/WPA2, speed of 130 Mb/s which is great, but can I improve the signal?
2. If I leave the computer on and come back after a while, the monitor is black, and I can see that the wireless connection is still going, but I can't seem to "wake up" the computer. I have messed with the settings, but have not attempted anything in the terminal. Can someone provide a simple fix? I would like to Suspend or Hibernate, but they don't work (meaning, I can wake up the computer). So I have resorted to simply logging off each time, which works.
3. Watching streaming video using RealPlayer, many times the screen freezes, and I am unable to navigate to anywhere else on the computer. Meaning, the mouse moves, but cannot open, close, change, do anything on the computer. Ctrl-Alt-Dlt doesn't even work to pop up anything. Is there a less abrupt way to Force Quit than holding down the power button on my computer and restarting the whole thing? I am sure that is not too good for the computer.
I don't know what is going on with one of my servers.
It is sitting with a load average of 10.09 10.08 10.02
However If I look at top I see the server between 95% and 99% idle!
Is it possible that my server is running some hidden processes or something?
How I can investigate the cause of this.
I need a little more space than tune2fs -m 1 /dev/sdb will allow... can I set a smaller number?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a loop which is able to echo out how complete a process is after each loop (e.g says 25% if the loop has 4 elements and has run once through). Is there any way I can print characters, perhaps a progress bar? I was thinking of using the percentage as a count or something and using.
Code:
I got told off for including code from work here.
Is there a way I can specify at what percentage i can make my battery to start charging? I guess the default it 95% which ends up wasting a lot of battery cycles. And my second question being can i have different modes like power saver, performance?

How to accurately calculate which process consuming from swap, just the swap no ram + swap!
I see the Wifi Signal Strength icon on the top bar, but where's the label that shows the signal strength percentage? Is there a way to re-enable the label or did Canonical deemed it to be unnecessary?

we want to get the rid out of windows 2003 print servers. we become sick of restart printer spooler services everyday when printing hang, halth, jam on printer. as admin we have to go to server and restartint services.ow let us continue,1)if using rhel installation time, what customer packages, binaries i should install it.
2) is cup is the print server name in linux world?3ing all windows xp,2000,2003,vista,win7 client4) where our all printers having ip based, 99% they r network ip based printers5) currently we open print share area on windows and all os(windows related) drivers r inside v right click and connect printers6) in linux will it stored drivers for windows for client?7) for ip base hp printers, do i need to download drivers from hp website or it will recongize detect over network all ip printers8) any chance of hanging printing similar to windows machines encounter then we have to go to restart "print spooler" services. as no alternate provide from microsoftkeeping above scenario what step should i follow and start practicing.
Is there a known bug in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS about this? When for example Brasero Disc burner is in action, it displays the progress as percentages in the title bar. This makes my sidebar that shows all open programs flick every time the percentage is progressing, and even worse; it switches between one and two column display on each flick... I am using the sidebar on the right side, and have seen some extra problem reports about that, but would appreciate any pointers to where this is being discussed and / or fixed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSuppose that I am in a private network of computers (say each having ip addresses 192.168.. ). Some of the machines( we have no information regarding their ip, name and no physical access to the servers) in the network are connected to internet and they run an http proxy at some port say 3128. Is there a program which can be run on Windows or Linux which will give me the list of machines(ip addresses and ports if possible) acting as proxy servers?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm curious if anybody can shed some light for me in this department. We're in a large environment with a Windows DHCP Server. We have been tinkering with LTSP on Edubuntu as thin and fat clients. It works great, but right now we just have 1 server handling the lab, which works fine unless we want to expand, which may be very possible.
These are the instructions I received:
Login to your windows server and load the DHCP configuration screen
Create a DHCP reservation for the MAC address you obtained
Add the configuration options below to enable the machine to boot from the LTSP server
017 Root Path: /opt/ltsp/i386
066 Boot Server Host Name: <ip address>
067 Bootfile Name: ltsp/arch/pxelinux.0 # Specify CPU architecture in place of 'arch', for instance 'i386'
From: [url]
I'm curious, what if I want to have multiple Ubuntu servers on the network that I want to have bootable? For example, let's say I have 3 labs, and 3 servers. Server A to Lab A, Server B to Lab B, and Server C to Lab C. I want all C's computers to boot to C, and B to B, A to A, etc.
1 - How would I add multiple entries on the Windows DHCP Server to allow all 3 (A B C) servers to boot?
2 - How would I be able to isolate the clients so ONLY Lab A clients boot to Server A, etc?
i want connect ubuntu server to windows and retrive mysql from windows
View 8 Replies View RelatedNow that I have more computers I am looking at new solutions to manage the proliferation. My Linux machine has been replaced and its now much more powerful than before but its still a 32-bit processor. No problem as I am not using anything unorthodox outside the LAMP stack with a few PHP add-ons to support graphics.I use SAMBA so I can edit web sites easily with Windows tools. So now given a Windows Server, who should be king server and have everybody on the same page so to speak.

Code:
For each user the script is different and users sit on any workstation. is their any way Linux can be made to understand this script and drives be mapped for users?
I have been hassling with this for several days now. I have 64-bit Ubuntu Server 10.04 running on an Acer Aspire EasyStore H340. I have windows 7 running on a 64-bit desktop pc and on a laptop. I mainly wanted to use the Ubuntu server for a file server, so I installed Samba and created three shares. These do show up in Windows explorer, and I can read and write to them. My windows applications seem to be able to see the shares and open & save files.
My next step was to try and set up a backup of the Windows 7 pc to the Ubuntu server. Windows integrated backup sees the shares and sub-directories within the shares, and the initial part of the backup seems to run OK, but when it tries to save an image of the 'C:" drive it works for a long time and then ends with an error (cannot complete backup).
So, I looked for some free backup programs to try, but these do not allow me to select the shares as a destination (invalid destination). The dialogue sees the drives I have mapped the shares to in Windows, but does not show any sub-directories, and selecting the mapped drive letter does not take as a destination. If I try to browse down through "Network" in the destination dialogue, it selects "Network," but does not expand it or accept it as a destination.
So, I partitioned, formatted as ext3, and mounted my 2nd 1TB SATA drive on the server, and mounted it as "storage." I set this up as share in Samba and gave everyone read-write access, but still no luck selecting it for a backup destination. After some Googling, I downloaded and installed Ext2Fsd-0.48 (a windows 'driver' for Ext2/Ext3). This installed correctly, but when I open the program, neither "Network," the shares, or the mapped drives show up anywhere.
I have setup a 389 ldap server on fedora 11 that works fine on linux clients. Now I want to connect windows xp clients on it. I made it using pgina, but I would like to make it work without third party software.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two computers.
Computer A = windows 7.
Computer B = Ubuntu Server 9.10
Computer B automatically receives an IP address from my router.
I can ping computer B from computer A using the IP address. I cannot ping computer B from computer A using its hostname.
My router did not show a hostname under it's active clients table. After some searching I found a threat where somebody suggested modifying /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and adding 'send hostname "blahblah"' This allowed me to see the hostname in my router but I still cannot resolve it from my windows box.
i am currently working in a windows server 2003 domain environment and i want to install and configure a ubuntu server 9.10 as a samba file server and i want to allow windows domain users to access the samba shares with windows authentication from the AD , so they can use their windows user names and passwords to access samba shares.i followed the wiki docs and configured kerb5.conf , smb.conf and winbind but i am unable to add the samba pc to the windows domain
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a project in school that the requirement is to show the proof of concept of a high availability virtual servers. the guest operating system for the test case will be a Windows variant and a Linux variant that if the main host that hosts both of this VMs fails, both VMs will be restarted on the backup host. Simple enough with VMware vSphere and citrix xenserver with essentials with their enterprise features, But I am not allowed to use a software that one will need to pay-for or is only a trial version, i need to use an open source solutions, and i am not allowed to use virtualbox.
the school has provided me 2 server class 64bit hardware with intel-vt support, i have my laptop for management tools and to also run a virtual appliance for a iscsi target (openfiler as a vm in virtualbox in my laptop).
I have figured that i will use KVM on a ubuntu server as my hypervisor but i cant find any how-to on how to implement a high availability setup that will run a windows variant as a guest. can some one give me a step by step on how to do this.
from my research it looks like i will need DRBD and heartbeat, but i dont know how to use them and if they are applicable in my needs. I wouldn't probably use DRBD since I have a sudo SAN with my iscsi target, so i can probably use open-iscsi.
