General :: Var/log/httpd/sea_urchin File - Shut It Off ?
Sep 13, 2010
Does anyone know about the sea_urchin log? what does it do? how can I shut it off. there seems to have an automatic process somewhere because every time I deleted the var/log/httpd/sea_urchin log file, it will regenerate the log file again on sunday.

My predecessor uninstalled the Urchin software from our RHEL5 server, but this /var/log/httpd/sea_urchin log keeps regenerating every Monday. We cannot figure out why. I am assuming it has something to do with logrotate. I am newbie, so be gentle. How can I stop it? Is there something we are overlooking?

Offlate I installed F11 i586 on my laptop. F11 shares the hard disk with Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The problem is that when running F11 (or even Ubuntu), my system shut off suddenly(not a normal OS shut down, but a sudden power off without any warning). This could have been a hardware trouble(heating) but it doesn't happen with Vista.
Machine specifications:
Maker: Toshiba
Model: Satellite L305D-S5881
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile Processor RM-70
3072 MB 800 MHz SDRAM
I don't want to open up my machine unnecessarily, if it isn't a hardware issue.
I am not sure how to verify the bit length of the machine and the OS and does it create a compatibility issue ?
Your advise would be highly appreciated.

We are using this url on our testing box and this ip is reverse proxy IP ( 10.192.64.52)
Without reverse proxy:- URL is working fine.
http://10.192.16.77/akc-qa/arsys/ser...TS000000001430
But with reverse proxy its putting escape [%25] in between %3a
[url]
Is it possible to write a rewrite rule to bypass escape [NE] for this particular URL?

I am using CentOS 5.6 with Apache 2.2.17. The Apache was compiled from source using RPM build to comply with PCI requirements. Also Plesk 9.3 is used as a control panel, but other than the config files the Apache is pretty standard. When the httpd is started, there are no errors reported in /var/log/messages or in the error_log, and the httpd starts, shows up in ps and the pid file exists in /var/run/httpd.pid.
However when you check the status 'service httpd status' you get 'httpd dead but subsys locked'. You can add websites normally, and the proper config files are generated so I am pretty sure this isn't a control panel issue as I have other servers running the same control panel and Apache 2.2.16 compiled and installed the same way as the 2.2.17 and there are no problems.

I'm installing Wordpress and I want Hosting Multiple Sites with them. For that I need modify the httpd.conf file but it's empty. Where I can make that changes? These are the changes:
1. Type: LoadModule rewrite_module /libexec/mod_rewrite.so
2. Find the <VirtualHost> section in the httpd.conf file.
3. Find a line in the <VirtualHost> section of the httpd.conf that looks like this: AllowOverride None
3. Replace that line with this line: AllowOverride FileInfo Options
4. On a new line, type ServerAlias *.[URL].
5. Save the httpd.conf file and close it.

I turned my home PC running Ubuntu 10.04 into a server, and so i am so lost, after reading like a 10-20 different guides and/or official docs, I am totally lost.
All I wanted was to create a custom 404 error page...i read about how people edited .htaccess files to customize error pages, i tried and failed also, editing apache2.conf, I got lost and i dont wanna mess up everything and also, how you're supposed to not touch either of those as its not how it should be done and instead you need to edit httpd.conf and i did and FAILED! again...
Also how do I make it so that I can make subdomain(s) on my site? and wth is a name server and where do I get one?

I need to logrotate logs in directories in /var/log/httpd/.
There are 4 directories in /var/log/httpd/... these directories are /var/log/httpd/access/ /var/log/httpd/debug/ /var/log/httpd/error/ /var/log/httpd/required/
Each of the access, required, error and debug directories have around 20 to 30 access log files of different locations for example:mumbai-access.log, pune-access.log etc..same is the case for 'error' dir 'required' dir and 'debug' dir in /var/log/httpd/
I need to clean up the logfiles in all the 4 directories access, error, debug and required...
I have made a custom logrotate file as follows:
Is the above config correct?
Am I missing something? Will this logrotate the files in /var/log/httpd/access, /var/log/httpd/error, /var/log/httpd/required and /var/log/httpd/error ?
Do i need to include following line in postrotate " /bin/kill -HUP `cat /var/run/httpd.pid 2>/dev/null` 2> /dev/null || true" ?

I disabled autologin as one suggestion on how to get the machine to shut down.
But now, I cannot get to the system, except at a command prompt, and gdm will not give the display. I can login, but cannot do anything else, including getting to a desktop or to the administration section to recheck the autologin option.
How do I do this?
