General :: Use Tabs With The "Screen" Program?

Aug 26, 2010

I'm using multiple screen windows and am wondering if it's possible to add a tabbed interface to it, with tab names and keyboard shortcuts for moving between the tabs.

Ubuntu :: Program Window Managers / No Tabs On Panel

Feb 8, 2011

I tried Docky and then uninstalled it. Then got a notification on a missing library item asking if I wanted to delete association. Now I have no open program tabs on my panel. So how do I get them back? And are there other program window management programs that might be of interest? If it matters, I'm using Ubuntu Studio.

OpenSUSE :: Firefox Is Slow Opening New Tabs/switching Between Tabs

Mar 25, 2010

Firefox is sometimes slow opening new tabs/switching between tabs. If I click on the kickoff application launcher button, it takes a few seconds to open, and typing something in the search makes it hang up for about 20 seconds before it does the search. Clicking on an app takes 16 seconds before the menu window closes and the program begins to start. Then it takes another 30sec-1min before the app is usable. smplayer plays video with tearing.

Like right now I tried taking a screenshot, and it tells me

Error launching /usr/share/applications/kde4/ksnapshot.desktop. Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application.

while the app worked fine.

I also tried running glxgears right now, and it runs but the gears don't move, and terminal states

15 frames in 19.0 seconds = 0.789 FPS
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
after 48 requests (48 known processed) with 15 events remaining.

If I'm on dolphin, and I click a video to start smplayer, it takes about 1 minute for it to start.

Memory is using 1.4GB out of 3.6GB, with 0.08GB/2GB swap

Top shows an average usage of less than 10% average. Xorg is always 25%, kwin is always 10% and then rest of the apps are less than that.

CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor
Integrated VIdeo: HD4200 with fglrx driver

When I ssh into the computer with x tunneling, the programs start up faster than being on the desktop

Ubuntu :: Make An All In One Program Screen

Aug 3, 2010

Im trying to make an all in one program splash screen for ubuntu.

the idea behind this is, I have alot of staff at my store who will be using a system system for a few programs, but almost none of them have any real use of ubuntu.

What I would like to do is have them log in and instead of seeing the desktop have a splash screen pop up with the program choices they can use, all in one place.

Ubuntu :: Launch A Program Onto Another X Screen?

May 11, 2011

This is for a live performance type of setup. I have 2 graphics cards. One is attached to 2 projectors, which are what the audience sees. The other has a single monitor, which is backstage. The 'front' graphics card is configured in Twinview, and the 'backstage' one is configured as a second X screen by the nvidia settings control panel.

What I'd like to do is launch my show program from a terminal on my backstage screen, but have it show up on the other X screen, the 'front' one. X is amazing so I'm sure it can be done, but I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly how.

Personal Best for self-solving my own thread question:

Code:
DISPLAY=:0.0; xclock
launches on display 0
Code:
DISPLAY=:0.1; xclock
launches on display 1

Debian Configuration :: Startup Program Screen Too Small?

Oct 10, 2015

The "System Settings/Startup Programs" window is large enough but the "Program" column is too narrow and it cannot be resized. The window can be dragged to make it larger but not the individual columns. It looks like a Java listbox with "Enabled = false" set. This occurs in Debian8 64 bit and also in Mint 17 and Mint LMDE2. I am surprised nobody else has raised the issue. I have a basic setup with 22" screen and 1680 x 1050 resolution. It occurs with Nouveau and NVidia drivers. It is not a critical bug so I have coped with it for 2 years but it would be nice to see it fixed. Unfortunately I could not upload a screen shot as "board attachment quota has been reached".

The program sometimes works but the tutorial does the white screen. I also reinstalled the package several times with no luck. Other packages do the same thing like thunderbird.

Ubuntu :: Flashing Splash Screen Of Newly Installed Program

Nov 25, 2010

I have recently installed a program called IDA-STEP (manually off the web) on my Ubuntu 10.0.4 system. I unzipped the program folder to /usr/local/ida-step, and ran the executable to install (sudo ./ida-step) it. Now, every time I want to run the program I have to type "sudo ./ida-step" from within the folder to begin the program. However I also recently modified a copy of an existing *.desktop config file so that I can launch ida-step from the applications menu (and its in /usr/share/applications).

When I use this latter method to launch ida-step all I get is the programs initial splash screen flashing on and off (everything else in the background remains unaffected) - but the program never launches. I can replicate this behaviour if I launch the program in the terminal by typing "./ida-step" (rather than "sudo ./ida-step" which works fine).
