I have installed a puppet server and its client on Centos.Puppet server and its client is running fine and its update whatever changes made on Puppet server is updatedon its client but i am unable to execute script (Bash shell)on the client through Puppet server. So please advice a suitable class or parameter for Puppet server so that it could execute on its client
I have puppet running successfully on my CentOS 5.5 boxes. I just came across this guide to use foreman as a frontend for puppet. I am downloaded and installed (source files) from here.
facter-1.5.8 puppet-2.6.4
I have downloaded latest stable foreman RPMs from here. Now, when I am trying to install Foreman rpm, it is unable to find Puppet, probably because I have installed it through source file.
Code: [root@box1 foreman]# rpm -ivh foreman-0.1.4-3.noarch.rpm error: Failed dependencies: puppet >= 0.24.4 is needed by foreman-0.1.4-3.noarch
I'm managing a residential network. Each flat is its own subnet, and can only communicate with the other flats through a router (i.e. no broadcast). 95% of these 300 subnets only contains windows computers (from lambda users).
My final goal is to be able to browse the entire network from any computer.
I set up a samba server acting as a wins server, and every computer is aware of it because it is registered in the dhcp. So name resolution is working fine for everyone.
The same samba server is set to be the "Domain master browser":
workgroup = WORKGROUP wins support = yes prefered master = yes local master = yes domain master = yes os level = 65
When I browse the network (using "net view" or "browstat view"), I can only see the servers which are in the same subnet as the domain master browser.
Now, when in a subnet the computers arrange themselves to find a "local master browser", the only visible computers are the one in that subnet.
What I don't understand is why all the local masters don't synchronize their lists with the domain master.
So, to sum up, every subnet get the following behaviour:
-if a local master is elected, the only visible computers are the one in the same subnet.
-if no local master is elected, the only visible computers are the one in the subnet of the domain master.
-if I add another samba, configured as a local master winning all elections, then the magic is working and the lists are synchronized.
What is expected: -every computer can see all the computer from all the subnets.
I installed an Asus P7P55D PRO motherboard and now I can't mute Master channel with alsamixer, even not using KDE mixer. Probably ALSA doesn't support properly, despite I upgraded alsa libraries (alsa-lib-1.0.21a). The key to increase or decrease the volume through keyboard works fine, but the key for mute is not working. These are the alsamixer values:
Card: HDA Intel Chip: VIA ID 444
I also used alsaconf command and it detects a snd-hda-intel board. I have a G15 keyboard and I even tried to make a shortcut with KDE mixer, but it doesn't work. Is there any way to solve it or have I to wait for a new version of alsa? I use Slackware64 13.0 with kernel 2.6.32.7.
I have a load balancer with 2 web servers behind it. The web servers rsync with cloud storage to update their apache directories 1 time every hour. Apache is just running php pages that pull/push data to a DB so they dont need to be updated that often. However I need to figure out how to implement a Master/Master MySQL setup to have my web servers point to for the PHP stuff. I need to implement it without having a single point of failure. The Load balancers are useless for failover as they only detect availability based on Ping request. So putting a master/master setup behind a Load Balancer is out. what is the best way to setup the master/master mysql in a HA setup without the use of a load balancer provided by the host?
I'm trying to avoid having to migrate my machine to Fedora: it's either learn to clone some existing Puppet manifests from Fedora to Ubuntu, or move back to Fedora. I'm running into several problems, including parsing errors for rules that work for Fedora and fail for Ubuntu, presumably because the version of libaugeas-ruby is older for Ubuntu (0.3.0) than Fedora (0.4.0). For Ubuntu, these rules fail with "Could not evaluate: Could not retrieve information from source(s)". Another one is a failure of augeas to use the 'ins' command to insert a rule into krb5.conf. I can't think of any good reason for these other than the older versions of the libraries render Puppet unable to parse properly.
At any rate, I was wondering whether anyone has had experience and success controlling security services in Ubuntu (Natty), such as krb5, pam, screensaver locking, etc. I should be able to hack my way through these, but I keep hitting walls like the evaluation error above.

I'm trying to setup puppet to install and configure apache on several servers. Having found: [URL] I thought I was onto something. However I'm a little lost, does anyone know of or can anyone write a small howto on how to get this module working on certain nodes. My current state is puppet is running and connected to the puppetmaster. I can do simple things but the apache install have lost me a little.

I'm basically a linux noobie, and have a problem with one of my machines I use for work. As the title states I am unable to start my xserver, using the startx command I have been using for the past 5 years. It goes to the blue loading screen with the x for a cursor, hangs there for about a min or so then goes back to the command screen. I get an error:
giving up. xinit: Permission denied (errno 13): unable to connect to xserver waiting for xserver to shut down xinit: Server error.
I have tried logging on as root and trying startx again. Same error.
I would like to manage the firewall from the command line or with files VIA puppet, however this peice of software seems pretty complicated compared to the other distributions and generic iptables commands / configurations we push out.
Yesterday I thought I had solved my "Blank screen boot"-issue when I successfully got to the terminal login screen without the screen going black by booting with
Code: Linux acpi=off I spoke too soon. I found out shortly after that when trying to "startx" with acpi off gave me these errors: Code: WARNING: Error inserting i2c_algo_bit ("filepath"): No such device WARNING: Error inserting intel_agp ("filepath"): No such device
[Code]....
Then I read somewhere that booting with "i915.modeset=0" might work. So I removed acpi=off from lilo and added this, and sure enough, I got to terminal login, but I get the same errors with "startx".
I must make it clear that I can successfully perform startx when I boot without "acpi=off" or "i915.modeset=0", I am unable to see the screen but I can hear the KDE fanfare, etc.
I have centos 5.3 installed, while restarting httpd service I get error starting http:/bin/bash line 1 9941 segmentation fault /usr/sbin/httpd. If I stop httpd service and start it will start but if make service httpd restart it give above error.
I am unable start network service on my centos box. /etc/init.d/network start device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization lspci | grep Ethernet
Doesn't show any results. It seems os doesn't identify my NIC. I am using compaq presario model pc
Per my request my son installed XP and Ubuntu(interested in learning Linux)in my computer. The installation went well and I was able to choose the system I wanted to work in from the menu. It worked for several months but now when I choose Ubuntu from the menu I longer get to the Ubuntu login screen.
Suddenly my machine not working under run level 5 and it seems to be problem with xserver and it is saying that "in last 90 seconds xserver restarted 6 times and unable to start" and then just giving blank screen. So i changed the run level to 3 and using startx command i am managing to work now.
Vmware tells me it cannot start services.I believe the issue is tied to permissions because the message indicated the log with the full details was located in /tmp/vmware-root/setup-4772.log but when I go there I receive a message telling me I do not have permission to the directory and there's a lock symbol on the directory from the File Browser utility. What do I need to do to unlock the folder and get vmware working again ?
I trying to install RALUS on my RHEL 5 os version 2.6.18-8.el5 (i386) My backup exec server is BE 2010 R2 the installation of ralus completes however with error libstdc++.so.5 missing noted that due to this i'm unable to start ralus service /etc/init/VRTSralus found a link [url] need to download compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-63.i386.rpm tried the rpmfind.net and as well as rpm.pbone.netid did find appropriate rpm however could not download one.
I'm trying to figure out how to operate a rather large Java program, 'prog'. If I go to its /bin/ dir and configure its setenv.sh and prog.sh to use local directories and my current user account. Then I try to run it via "./prog.sh start". Here are all the relevant bits of prog.sh:
[code]...
When I actually do ./prog.sh start, it starts. But I can't find it at all on the process list. Nor can I kill it manually, using the same command the shell script uses. But I can tell it's running, because if I do ./prog.sh stop, it stops (and some temporary files elsewhere clean themselves out).
[code]...
the process is running yet not in any way listed by the system. I can't find it in ps or /proc/, nor can I kill it. But the shell script can still stop it properly. So my question is, how can something like this happen? Is the process supremely hidden, actually unlisted, or am I just missing it in some fashion? I'm trying to figure out what makes this program tick.
