I'm using a 3G modem whilst o2 transfer over adsl. trouble is no websites load but I can resolve domains. I enabled masquerade on the PPP0 ( modem) interface. added the server as default route for all workstations.

I just installed 10.10 for netbooks, and apparently it's using the RT2800PCI driver for my wireless NIC in my EeePC 901. That driver is causing havoc with my school network, I keep getting disconnected, and loading websites is really slow.
Now I know that 10.04 uses a different driver RT2860 which seems to work far better on this network.
How to change to the driver from lucid. Or does anyone know of an even better solution? I've heard rumors about something called ndiswrapper...

I'm having some trouble with the configuration of the iptables. I want to setup a network server to serve as Fail Over (for my 2 ISPs), DHCP and DNS. I have 3 network cards, 2 connected to ISP's routers and 1 that serves as UPLINK for my switch.
I want to add some Iptables rules so I can achieve what I want to do. The problem is that the rules I try to use, they have to effect.... they don't load, here are the rules I am trying to add:
#iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface eth1 -j MASQUERADE
#iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface eth2 -j MASQUERADE
#iptables --table nat --append POSTROUTING --out-interface eth2 -j SNAT --to EXTIP
When I try to check to see if it loads, with the command:
#iptables -L
It returns empty
I have a clean install of Ubuntu server Lucid Lynx with the virt-host task installed. I need to find the location of the iptables rules that are being loaded when the system boots. These are the rules for the virbr0 interface.

Ubuntu 10.04 not loading. Sticks at GRUB Loading message.
Read the other threads re OS not loading and GRUB. The talk about code goes over my head.
Local techie says the hardware is good. Tried reloading Ubuntu from CD. Tried loading the unmentionable OS.

I'm working on a Soekris net4801 that is running an unknown distro of Linux. The kernel is 2.4.29, and iptables is v1.3.4.
I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:
/user/local/lib/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/lib/iptables
I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.
"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy internet connection used to be a direct LAN connection to my provider. Back then, everything would load fine on both Windows and Ubuntu (dual boot). However, a while ago they started needing me to dial using a username and password (over a PPPoE connection). But since then, I haven't been able to browse certain websites on Ubuntu, even though there have been no such issues on Windows. Some example websites are - Ovi's sign in page (although share.ovi.com loads fine, and nokia.com loads fine), Live Mail (works on Chrome(ium) and Opera but not on Firefox (both 3.6 and 4)) and other random websites.
Some of the websites that don't load show timeout messages on Chrome and for some websites, the browser will keep trying to load without an end (I've left it like that even for hours but not noticed anything different happen).
I have tried changing the DNS servers to the ones suggested in the comment. I have even tried booting from a Fedora LiveCD and then changing the DNS to those (and even to the ones of OpenDNS), but the exact same thing happens. Here's output of ipconfig on Windows: Opera error messages seem to be a little more informative and they have the following errors in turns:
Secure connection: fatal error (552)
Secure connection: fatal error (40)
Followed by: Opera was not able to connect to the server. The server may be using the unsupported SSL 2 protocol, which is not considered safe enough for secure communication. The site owner should upgrade to TLS 1.0 or newer. Does anyone know why this is happening and how it can be fixed?
Update: Just saw here [URL].. that someone else was having similar problem and solved it by putting a NetworkManager.conf file in /etc/NetworkManager. What needs to be in that file?

I'm REALLY hoping someone can help, because this is immensely frustrating.I just moved to a new house, with a new ISP. All of a sudden, all the machines running Ubuntu (there are 4 of them on my network) are having trouble rendering websites properly. Some websites are perfectly fine; some render with things missing (e.g., no photos or no CSS); some render as text-only; and some won't display at all - I get a "server not found" error.If I boot into Windows on any of these machines, there's no problem.To complicate matters more: Sometimes the "server not found" sites will decide to connect, then they'll fail again. This has been changing day to day (sometimes even hour to hour). Anything within the google.com domain is a good example of this.Two of the affected machines are desktops (one running headless as a server), and two are laptops. All four are running Ubuntu, but they're all running different kernels. The ONLY things these machines have in common is that they're running Ubuntu, and they're all connecting to the internet wirelessly.
Because things work properly in Windows without exception, and because (at least on the laptops) things work fine in Ubuntu on any other internet connection, I can rule out wireless network adapters. I have tried using two different wireless routers - no change. I have tried using 4 different web browsers - no change. I have tried plugging a laptop directly into the incoming connection, bypassing the router entirely - no change. I have tried purging and reinstalling Flash on one of the laptops - no change. I have tried to connect to affected websites using their IP addresses to rule out DNS issues - no change.This one has me completely stumped. The only thing I can think is that this is something to do with my ISP, but I can't imagine what it would be. I called the guy who runs the ISP (it's a local outfit run by one or two guys, as I'm living in the middle of nowhere), and he said there's nothing he's aware of at the ISP level that would be causing a problem like this.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi was tasked to setup a proxy server to block access to some websites. i'm using centOS 5 and Squid 7:2.6 STABLE21-6.e15...i appended the following and tested the configuration with the supposed server i am using and the it does seem to work but now i'm wondering how i can test it with a client computer..i have 2 LAN cards and i just connected the other to one PC (can a direct connection work or does it need to pass thru a switch or hub)...i just can't figure out how it should be... how do i configure the 2nd LAN card to use this computer as its proxy server?
