I have been working on a free file hosting service. So far its only been for family and friends. Right now I have is open to them off a no-ip free. I have around 20 people using it and around 2GB used space. Whats the simplest way to use add a domain and not mysite.no-ip.biz? And make it mydomain.com? What would I need to run it for around 85-100 people?? Min computer specifications & what ever else I would need to make it work correctly. How would I make this more secure I'm using user pro-missions? What is the best software to use. I need to too be user friendly?

I have an Ubuntu Server, a dyndns account and an account with [URL]. My DynDns stuff is all working just great - novo.dyndns.tv is the address. Now I need a domain which I have already bought, to be linked to that machine at [URL] I signed up with freedns.afraid.org and now I am a bit confused at what records to add where. I added a domain - [URL] then setup a webforward as follows: redirect from [URL] and redirect from[URL] to [URL] , however if you go and visit:[URL] you will see my problem! It takes you back to [URL] server and says there is not a webforward setup for [URL]This tells us that the nameservers are all setup fine - and its something in my freedns config which is failing.

how to use the <Super>ButtonX (<Super>Button1 for example for the enabled Compiz Screenshot plugin)? I also notice there is configurable buttons 1 throught 20 under the various options. At first I thought the ButtonX was a mouse button. Maybe it is with some anticipation of there being eventually being a possible 20 buttons on the mouse. I know the Super key is the Key with the Windows logo on it. But I don't know what to do to get the needed Super Key / Button combination. After having enabled Compiz's Screenshot plugin by its default, I don't get an image after hitting any of the Super key and mouse button combinations. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.

I am looking to build a new desktop. What is the lowest end video card that will fits the following:
Supports 2 monitors at 1920x1200 or 1600x1200
Works with Linux.
3d performance isn't much of an issue, since I don't play computer games. I use the computer mostly for programming, which is why I like having the large resolution, so I don't have to scroll around so much.

I'm looking for VPS provider in the US. I'm just trying to get around geo-location restrictions and I figured that the easiest way would be to get a cheap VPS and set up squid. (I'm planning on sharing it with a few friends) Anybody has any experience with any VPS providers?

So I'm holding my nose and gonna get a shared hosting account. Sorry to sound a snob, maybe I am and tx God there are some of us left! Fact is, I'm a VPS kinda guy but need a shared host for a tech book I'm commissioned to write.
I was with Lunarpages a while off. Thought they were pretty good 'till they lost my db. Not an option. HostGator? Or who? I want cheap as chips. And that's about it. I'll only really be playing with cPanel .. aah, so I need that too. But it would be nice to have some sort of reliability, and I need one of the 'big boys' 'cos many of the target audience for this tome will have that kind of host.

I have a laptop running Ubuntu (not the problem) and I want to connect to a FTP server. Filezilla works really well and so does good old ftp. But, the FTP server I need to connect to will only accept connections from a white-list of addresses. My office IP is static and is on the list. Thus, connecting to this FTP server from the office is a piece of cake. But, I want to connect to this FTP server from home. Connecting to it directly from home is impossible because I have a dynamic IP address here at the house (surprise) so we can't just add my home IP address to the list.
Fortunately, I have full admin rights on the network at my local office and I installed cygwin on the Windows 2008 server. I can successfully connect to it using ssh. That gets me half way there. I can securely connect to a machine that is allowed to talk to the FTP server. I'm half way there. Now I want to figure out how to forward my ftp port over ssh through the server at the office and to the FTP server that I really want to connect to.I've tried various incantations of ssh and I can't seem to come up with the right combination. Anyone have any experience doing something like this? In affect, I want to use ssh as a simplistic proxy and it need only really handle a single port.

I want to mount a 'super floppy' which is listed in the disk utility as /dev/sdb.
I am unsure of the sequence here. Should I first mount: mount /mnt/floppy ...or something similar And next edit the /etc/fstab file....or is this step not necessary.
Finally, this is vfat formatted. Should I try to reformat it in ext or leave it as is?

I'm out in a village and we get more powercuts than I like, and recovering the journal on my server is getting rather irritating. I'm looking into getting a cheap UPS, the powercuts will last usually a maximum of 30 seconds, so I only need a few minutes.
I've been looking at:Plexus V 500VA UPS
Plexus V 1200VA UPS
APC SUA750I Smart-UPS 750VA
I know near to nothing about these things, my question is will those work with a machine with a 700W PSU? How do you know? The 500VA doesn't really mean much to me. Ideally I'd like to get my desktop on there too, but that's more for convenience than anything.
Will any of these do the job? Any Linux compatibility issues I should plan for? Any recommendations from personal experience is greatly welcome Edit: I will be happy with a UPS that can inform Linux power is down, and get the server to cleanly shutdown straight away, I'm more interested in a clean shutdown than maintaining power to use the machines during the outage. Edit 2: Can UPS devices be piggybacked to one another to provide extra uptime? i.e. Could I run 2 of the 30's so when the first runs down, the 2nd carries on?

I'm looking for a PCI RAID card that will support 4 SATA disks in RAID 5.
Essentially it must be possible to monitor the raid from the Linux operating system (FC10+), I will not have physical access to the machine most of the time, so I need to be able to talk to the RAID card from Linux (like the 3Ware one does), It is possible to get reasonably priced RAID cards that can be monitored from Windows.

Everything works fine in doing this, however every time a user logs into the Windows Citrix Session the roaming profile created on the linux samba share creates their Windows Profile with a 755 perms. I understand that the default umask is (globally on my RHEL host is 022 ??) but in my smb.conf file the definition that is defined for the directory is set to a create mask of 0700. What is going on?
