General :: Live Cd With Nvidia Drivers?

May 12, 2010

I work at a computer shop. I have been making ubuntu live cds for a couple years to help test hardware outside of whatever viruses and other crap software people have installed in their os. Generally I use remastersys to create the image. However, it removes all 3d video drivers, for good reasons which I understand.

Does anyone know of a similar program or a way to include the proprietary drivers on a live cd?

If you happen to have any other suggestions for troubleshooting linux live cd's as well I would be happy to hear them. Likewise, I would be happy to share any knowledge I have accumulated. I like to think my live cd is a pretty solid compilation of hardware diagnostics and utilities.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Set Nvidia Drivers - Dual Monitor Without Proprietary Drivers?

Apr 8, 2010

I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.

The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.

I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!

I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!

Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Install Nvidia Drivers For Nvidia 8800 GT Video Card

Apr 3, 2011

I can't figure out how to install the nvidia drivers for my nvidia 8800 GT video card. I've followed some other posts and all the posts seemed either incomplete, or led me down a path of which eventually broke my installation, that I needed to reinstall the entire ubuntu system.Again, it may not have been broken, i just didnt know how to get back in to the gui version of ubuntu, the instructions took me to the console terminal

1.) I've installed the ubuntu 10.10 64bit for i386 in an oracle virtualBox..

2.) downloaded from nvidia.com "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.44.run"

3.) Stuck don't know what to do.

General :: Checking Drivers In Ubuntu 10.10 For Nvidia 6600gt

Mar 6, 2011

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600 GT] [10de:00f1] (rev a2)
Kernel driver in use: nouveau
Kernel modules: nvidia-96, nouveau, nvidiafb
jbander@ubuntujon:~$

So it looks like I'm using Nouveau driver but I have three drivers loaded Nvidia 96, which I believe is the 96.43.19, nouveau (the one I think it's using) and Is the nvidia fb mean it is a nvidia fbcon and is that another driver or what?

The point is I've been trying to test all the nvidia 6600gt drivers I can find the 173 the 96 and I'm trying to put in 260.19.36 but I haven't been able to get it in yet.and I believe that the nouveau drivers was installed from Ubuntu 10.10 when I put the 6600gt card in the computer. With all those three drivers listed as kernel modules could or do I have a conflict. And the reason I'm doing this is, the drivers that I have now are freezing the system.

General :: Install The Drivers For Nvidia Graphics Card?

Jun 8, 2011

I'm trying to install the drivers for my nvidia graphics card. I downloaded the shell script from the nvidia website. However, there's something peculiar going on. When I execute the shell script it says it cannot find my kernel headers, yet I can verify that my /usr/include/linux/kernel.h does exist. I have selinux on, but just installed os with it on, so contexts are fresh. Checked them as well. After doing some research I found something out. When I run a 'uname -a' I get this.

Code:
Linux ariel 2.6.18-194.el5PAE #1 SMP Fri Apr 2 15:37:44 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Yet when I ran 'yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers' they installed the following versions.
Code:
kernel-headers-2.6.18-238.12.1.el5.i386
kernel-devel-2.6.18-238.12.1.el5.i686
Shouldn't they be

I see that the error in the nvidia shell script can't locate the header files for the RUNNING kernel version which makes sense. Why would yum install that version instead of the one in 'uname -a'? Or am I misunderstanding something?

General :: Ubuntu - Black Screen After Installing Nvidia Drivers?

Aug 5, 2009

I have scoured the web the last few hours and I have come across a plethora of similar problems relating to Ubuntu and Nvidia drivers. However, I still havent found a sufficient cure for the problem.

The exact problem I face is that as soon as I install the Nvidia recommended drivers using the "Hardware Driver Manager", I restart the system but it never gets past the login splash screen. After I log in it simply goes to a black screen and sits like this indefinately.

Does anyone know of a particular fix for this problem? I am at the end of my tether and there is no way I can use Linux if it means either getting a different graphics driver or sitting on a 800*600 resolution. (Not to mention I dont have acclerated 3d support...so no DVD playing!)

I have a Nvidia GeForce4 MX graphics card and im a complete n00b to Linx so please go easy on the technical jargon.

General :: Configure NVidia Drivers On A Portable Ubuntu Setup?

Feb 27, 2010

I've created a wonderful (until this issue) portable copy of Ubuntu linux that will boot on mostly anything by using a USB enclosure for my laptop's 80GB SATA drive. So far so good, it boots and runs on everything, and on non-nVidia card setups was even detecting the drivers, or letting me install the required drivers for hardware acceleration and compiz. Because you know, the wobble windows are the most awesome thing ever.

Anyway, my desktop machine had an nVidia card, so I'm thinking, sure, I'll just install the nVidia drivers like before and everything will work happily. Not so-- now the desktop and any other nVidia cards work great, but it seems to have completely disabled any other graphics cards. When the kernel module detects that an nVidia card isn't present, it shoots up this nasty little dialog box giving me the option to boot into "low graphics" mode, which doesn't even allow me to use the correct screen resolution, much less see the installed graphics card and try to configure a driver for it.

Is there any way to configure Ubuntu (with the dreaded nVidia kernel module) so that it can use nVidia's drivers when an nVidia card is present, and default to the normal (not low-graphics) setup in other cases, so that it has a fair chance of using what's actually present? I'm not afraid to much with config files, I just don't know the underlying system well enough to feel comfortable diving in without a push in the right direction.

While utilizing the "Hardware Drivers" configuration a recommended driver is listed but when I attempt to activate this driver I encounter an error.

This error turns my attention to the log file :

This log file is extensive and I do not wish to post pages of code unless requested. The configuration does however list that "a different driver is in use". I have scoured threads to ensure that I have not posted a question that has been answered to no avail. Please bear in mind that I am in my Linux infancy and my grasp of this incredible operating system is cursory at best.

CentOS 5 :: Can't Install Nvidia Drivers (Unable To Load The Kernel Module "nvidia.ko")?

Jul 28, 2009

So I have been trying to install these drivers forever and after going through a million forum posts and Google searches I have been unsuccessful. The process I have been trying starts as such: I hit ctrl-alt-f1 and then login as root. i then change to run level 3 by doing /sbin/init 3. After that's done I cd to desktop and do sh NVIDIA-LINUX-x86-185.18.29-pkg1.run --kernel-source-path /usr/src/kernel/2.6.18-128.2.1.el15-i686

If I don't give it the source path it can't find the source tree. Eventually I get the error: ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
