View 4 RepliesHere is what I have gotten my install down to with these packages:[url]
Just looking for suggestions on what packages I can still remove that are unnecessary for having firefox, fluxbox, pcmanfm, lxterminal, etc
And, I keep getting the error that the locale is not set, reverting to C? but I did set locale or thought I did, how to fix that?
I have my current computer set up with 2 HDDs in it. A 500GB with GRUB and Windows 7 on it and a 160GB HDD with Ubuntu on it.
I would like to someone replace Windows 7 with Ubuntu on the 500GB drive, but I'm not sure how I would be able to do this and still keep GRUB and such .
EDIT: I'd like to do this without re-installing anything.
In ~/.xinitrc I have option:xset -dpmsI also read this page about screensavers and found that I didn't install any of those programs for blanking the screen. But after some idle time Fluxbox turns on the blank screen. Why? How to disable it?

I have also tried tests such as "touch ~/testwoked" and such, nothing works. It makes no difference if the file is executable or not.
switching to Fluxbox. I've already discoveded how to configure menus and hotkeys but still not sure about appearance configuration. In the Fluxbox menu I chose nice-looking style and want to customize it - background color, font, font color, size of the panel (I want it widescreen and make it bigger in height), color of this panel, amount of desktops (2 instead of 4), etc... Where do I customize all this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a Fling KVM switch (by Belkin), to connect 2 computers to my monitor One computer is running XP and the other is running Linux. My wireless switching mechanism has just gone the way of the saints but Belkin has supplied a software solution for this occurrence. There is a small app called Fling (surprising) that allows me to switch from the XP machine to the Linux machine but nothing to switch back to the XP. What I need to know is there a similar app for the Linux computer. (NB I have tried Synergy but have no idea how to set it up - I've been told that synergy might work).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm toying around with fluxbox and like it's speed and simplicity. However, the gnome-panel is great and I would like to use it in fluxbox. Specifically, I like its system monitor, typing break, gnubiff and clock (which world clock support). My question is: if I'm running the gnome-panel in fluxbox will this degrade performance, for example, since the gnome-panel needs to load all the gnome related libraries etc.? One of the main reasons I'm looking into fluxbox is for speed so I don't want to lose that just because of the panel.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Archlinux yesterday on my Aspire One netbook. I installed fluxbux window manager with the ROX file manager/desktop manager.Everything was working fine until I was walking through a guide to set up the Fn keysto use the keyboard hotkeys for changing the brightness and audio settings here: [URL]I used xmodmap to set additional short cuts. Every since, I can't use my keyboard when I run 'startx'. My laptop touch mouse is working but I noticed the cursor speed has slowed down drasticly since I input the above changes.
I tried putting in 'setxkbmap no' in my ~/.xinitrc, 'no' was the language which is set up in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf and was working before. I also reverted to a back-up of my xorg.conf which I had saved a few hours before, which also didn't work. What could the problem could be here? How can I ensure my keyboard is being properly initialise when I start up Xorg/fluxbox?

While rearranging my keyboard shortcuts in the control center, I noticed that in the Desktop Switching subcategory, there are "Switch to [Next/Previous/Left/Right] Desktop" and "Switch to Next Screen." What is the difference between switching to another desktop and switching to another screen?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDebian 8, Fluxbox 1.3.5. I'll go to bed and my system is fine, in the morning I notice my system is sluggish. Changing focus between iceweasel and terminator takes > 10 seconds.
Top is telling me fluxbox is using 100% cpu. My system has 4 cores. Load average is 1.8. Next highest cpu user is iceweasel at 35%. iowait is 0. 4 gigs of free ram.
I'm guessing fluxbox shouldn't be using so many cycles. How do I collect enough information about what fluxbox is doing to file a bug report?
My end goal here is to have my system be responsive, ie, it shouldn't take > 10 seconds to change window focus.
I've looked at many tutorials on the internet but none helped me much.I've already tried to edit fstab so it would have something like /dev/cdrom/media/cdrom0udf,iso9660user,auto00.But the thing is this only takes effect when the OS loads, and the CD has to be inserted at that time, so it's not something permanent or viable. What I'm looking for it's something to auto-mount the cd in the fluxbox GUI when it's inserted just like in Gnome or Kde.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI've been browsing the fluxbox documentation and the web looking for answers to a couple of fluxbox configuration questions. I'm unfamiliar with fluxbox and hopefully my empty search is my unfamiliarity with fluxbox terminology. I'm building a web browsing appliance (basically a kiosk). The only purpose of the system is to provide a web browser for house guests.
I had good success disabling most features in fluxbox, such as limiting keyboard hotkeys, stripping the main and window menus, deleting all but one workspace, etc.I have not found solutions for the following:
1. Disabling the workspace pop-up menu. This menu appears with either the left or right mouse button. As most people using this system will be familiar with the traditional desktop model and expect a "Start" menu, I would like to disable that workspace pop-up menu. I don't want users to have access to any configuration options anywhere.
2. Add an Exit/Logout button to the toolbar. The desktop menu has such an option. A toolbar button would be nice but is not required.
3. Same as the previous but add a web browser button to the toolbar. The desktop menu has such an option. A toolbar button would be nice but is not required.
I have researched this for a couple of days and I am not getting anywhere. My Fedora 12 install is working just fine with the standard gnome desktop. I can plug in any usb drive and it is recognized and mounted with a link on the desktop. But I want to use Fluxbox. I installed and am running FB just fine except that I can't get usb devices to be recognized and mounted.I don't need a link on the desktop but an entry in /media would be nice.
I am thoroughly confused about which method I should be using to do this simple task. I created a HAL policy for my trackpad to work. Do I need to do something similar for the usb? I have read about udev rules but they seem to be concerned with NOT mounting usb devices. I also read about autofs and thunar but it seems like there should be a much simpler approach and I have certainly missed it.
many of you may have heard of fluxbox and maybe even used it, if you did you will have noticed a very quick but extremely sparse window manager and probably decided it wasn't for you due to lack of features. I'll show you how to quickly and easily give fluxbox all the features of your desktop.

I've seen people do this but I don't know how, and I can't find much in any fluxbox docs or the man page for fluxbox. I am using Thunar. Does anyone know how I can add desktop icons to fluxbox?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04. I have been using fluxbox for a loooong time, but just recently decided it would be cute to have some desktop icons and such. It looks like fbdesk is supposed to do exactly what i want. I installed the package, set up a rudimentary fbdesk.icons file and ran fbdesk from a terminal. It looks like it should be running just fine, but no icons! I also tried going w/o an icons file to get it to spit out the default icon, but also nothing.

Whenever I set a new wallpaper on Fluxbox with feh, it goes away as soon as I log out and log back in. It is probably relevant to say that my login wallpaper just so happens to be the same one that Fluxbox automatically switches to when it logs in, which I changed (somehow, can't remember how).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use a dvorak layout, but fluxbox refuses to acknowledge my settings. I can only set dvorak layout by either painstakingly typing it out in the terminal with qwerty or opening KDE settings. Neither of which is much of an option. The first is too annoying and opening KDE settings kind of kills the point of using fluxbox in the first place.
Other things I've tried:
I put Option XkbLayout "us"/XkbVariant "dvorak" in xorg.conf --> It's completely ignored. I put setxkbmap blah blah in .xinitrc, .fluxbox/startup and again it's completely ignored.
well you might have noticed that ubuntu 10.04 comes with some crappy purple background on gdm, well my problem is that when i start fluxbox it keeps that background as wallpaper even when i put fbsetbg code on startup to change it, even i put a delay to wait like 3 seconds and still the background is the one on GDM.
