In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.
In windows I do it in this way-
1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get RASPPPOE.inf file from PPPOE folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.
2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.
I've installed it and all went fine, now i want to set up a dial up connection witch i dont know how. I've tried going to system/adminstritive/networking but 'networking' isnt there.then i tyr gnome ppp but it says it cant detect a modem.

However, all command line print commands seem to be trying to print to sdst@other.domain I don't know why printers.conf is being ignored and why and how sdst@other.domain was added. Seems like it might have been auto-discovered?

I am running an Ubuntu Server on a VirtualBox VM running on my windows machine. So I've created a self-signed certificate using the following tutorial: [URL]

So I'm thinking this should work now. However in Chrome I get: SSL connection error Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have. Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error. IE8 gives me a typical "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Note that [URL] fails while [URL] works fine, so it's definitely something in my ssl setup I'm thinking.
I can make a connection to the vpn server, the connection starts, but nothing happens! My IP address remains the same as previous! There is nothing added to my Knetworkmanager, I'm a beginner I should use a pcf file for my vpn connection. Is there a way to make ncftp hold the connection open longer than the default? a ping every 10 sec or something? I feel like after I push a change up to the server before I can verify everything is working as expected and get back into ncftp the connection is closed by the remote host.

When I run off a Knoppix live CD, I can use kppp to configure pppd (using PAP/CHAP authentication and hardware control flow) to dialup and surf. When I try to user kppp to configure pppd exactly the same way on my hard drive installation, I get nothing. Both my Knoppix live CD and Debian Lenny use exactly the same version of kppp, but the pppd related files in /etc/ppp look a bit different.
Under both Knoppix and Debian Lenny hard drive installation, when I try to connect, the login debug window of kppp shows:

At this point I hear the modem dialing out, and when using Knoppix, after a few seconds I see

Which I think corresponds to my route to the InterNet being established through my ISP. When using the hard drive install, I never see the CONNECT, and all indications are that my modem is not sending authentication information at all, but getting stuck right after dialing out, so that my ISP gets a phone call from a modem which... refuses to speak. I never had any problems before, so I am baffled.
So apparently my system is currently misconfigured in some way which prevents point to point protocol from getting out.
Questions:
I have a firewall on my computer which I set up using guarddog. I have enabled point to point protocol from internet zone to local zone. I know that ppp is a symmetrical protocol, but my understanding is that I do not need to enable point to point from local to internet zone. I have not enabled irc protocol because my understanding is that this is only relevant to software flow control using chat scripts. Does this sound correct? Is there some additional protocol I need to allow in order to use pppd to dial out?
When I reboot my computer (off the hard drive) I sometimes see that the system complaining about a failure to stop every process, and sometimes I see mention of an eth0.pid. I have been looking for lock files; would they all be in /var/run?
When I use kppp to configure pppd, I want to do that as my ordinary user for at least two reasons, correct? don't want to run pppd as root user for security reasons kppp is a GUI and root user can't use X (on Debian)

When I had Mandriva back in 2009, my Sony Ericsson mobile had some issues in connecting but in the end I managed to get it done using the control center. Update: I tried Wvdial. It connects successfully but immediately disconnects ! Says "modem hang up" and gives pppd error 16. Btw, I don't have Kppp, only pppd and pppoe and two other files !
I have a computer with two hard drives that plugs directly into the modem. When I run on my Windows XP drive I can get internet. On my fedora drive I can not even get a ping. I configured the DSL connection (username and password), and it can't connect to it (the icon in the system tray keeps showing, that it is searching for the connection, and from time to time it flickers).I have tried it with ElementaryOS 64 bit and LinuxMint 64 bit (both based on Ubuntu), and either it is the same problem, or it doesn't even bother to look up the connection. I have also tried it with KiwiLinux (also based on Ubuntu, but there is only a 32 bit edition), and the network worked without problem (no sound though if jack plugged in - the same problem as with my old ASUS A3E laptop).
The network connection works fine under Windows 7.I have been careful when i introduced the username and password, so mistyping shouldn't be the problem.So what should i do, where should i look to try to get it to work?
I recently got a laptop computer and installed 64 bit fedora 11. I can make wireless connections fine but for my ISP I require a dial in using an username and password. On my desktop this is easy I just make a DSL connection under network manager and select eth0 my wired network card as the hardware and away I go. But now I can't select the wireless card as my hardware connection so my DSL keeps on trying to connect through eth0 which is obviously not plugged in. How do I go about making this connection? I have searched google and other people have this problem but I haven't seen any replies. I have tried using pppoe-setup and manually setting the hardware as wlan0 but this doesn't seem to work as under network manager it just defaults back to eth0.
