As a bilingual user, I have a lot of things that someone like that has to have like a lot of UNIcode fonts of the languages I use and keyboard layouts. My question is really simple (though the answer may not ):Is it possible to specify a specific font for a specific language? For example:
I have about four different looking Singhalese fonts on my system:
1. LKLUG
2. Bashitha
3. Malithi
4. another one... (awkward)
right now my system uses LKLUG, but I'd like to use Bashitha since it's more easy to read. How do I do this? Things like setting the system wide font in SystemSettings or other ways is not what I'm looking for though... my System font is DejaVu Sans, and I want the System to use Bashitha ONLY for the Singhalese text and DejaVu Sans for the rest..I tried modifying the ~/.fonts.conf file..

All the power google turn up just stuff f relating how to install microsoft fonts or do stuf on MikTeX.
I CANNOT USE XeLaTeX!!! I use pstricks and the font must be available in plain TeX! Otherwise my document looks inconsistent!

i recently got a french msi wind U100x running on linux suse enterprise 10 sp1. (i am french and wanted a light netbook with french keyboard)i am totally new to linux and i believe that msi wind is not helping.because i am more used to english for settings, i set the main language to english, but it seems that it automatically reconfigures my keyboard mapping to english as well, so that azerty becomes qwerty.i reset it back to french, so now my keyboard is french, but so is the system.is there a way to differentiate keyboard from main user setting language?

Most of my work happens in a terminal, so I need a clear, readable font. I've settled a while ago on Terminus [URL]..., which works wonders for me. I added XTerm*faceName : Terminus in my ~/.Xdefaults, and I do get the Terminus font. Unfortunately, a lot of Unicode glyphs are missing (mathematical symbols, greek and hebrew letters), displaying as little square blocks instead.
If I remove the faceName entry, the default configuration seems able to display most of the glyphs (including math, greek, hebrew, runic, and whatever else), but the default font is much harder to read.
A google search hints that it should be possible to use Terminus as the default font, and fallback to (an)other one(s) for missing glyphs, but provides no further explanation. I've seen documentation that recommends Bitstream Vera Sans as a fallback, but it lacks the glyphs I need too; I don't know how to identify the default font used by xterm either, I had a look at /usr/share/X11/app-defaults/XTerm, but all I can find are generic references to old pre-fontconfig font names.
Using Gentoo Linux, fontconfig and xterm are up to date, USEs trutype and unicode enabled, X.Org server 1.6.
Edit: I alternate between Ratpoison, Awesome and XMonad, without a desktop environment.

I was wondering if there is a way to find out IP blocks based on a given region. I know there are IP Lookups that will tell you what Country and possibly City a given IP is from. What I want is the following:
- I would like to set up a IPTABLES rule that implements something like:
=> ALLOW VPN connections FROM THIS ISP/IP BLOCKS THAT ARE IN CITY XYZ
Basically, I want to limit my incoming VPN connections FROM my ISP in the surrounding area. So, for example, I can go to my friends house who also has the same ISP. I should be able to connect from his home to mine because we have 1) same ISP 2) IP blocks is confined to a particular local location.

I have some music in another language, but when I open the songs in Banshee, their song names just come up as weird characters (like μ).I went to [System --> Administration --> Language Support] and installed support for that language, but the songs still come up like μ. (But in Nautilus, their proper names show).
I know the solution is to change my whole system language to that language, but I don't want to do that, as I am not very fluent in it. Is there any way to enable support for that language while keeping English as the language used to display my desktop?

One computer .... three users .... three languages. How do you make that happen? User A speaks English and is happy with English. No problem. User B needs to use Chinese and would like the full system in Chinese. User C needs to use Thai and Chinese. They would prefer their menus to be in Thai and can use iBus for Chinese entry. How do you set up the system so that each user can select their system language when they login?

While installing Ubuntu 10.10 I chose the wrong language for my keyboard. I tried to fix this in keyboard preferences and it seemed to work. The correct one I need is USA (and don't know exactly the difference between USA and USA alternative international). But every time I boot my laptop I get the old language back (Dutch) while USA is above the others in my preferences.

Has anyone gotten the IO language to install under CentOS 5.5? Here's the site: [URL]... Here's part of the README.txt --
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make install
Before I wade through all the diagnostics I'm wondering if anyone has actually gotten it working.

My OS is openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.4.4. release 8.

I have old laptop that I intend to give away to a child who's family, due to bad financial, has no means to afford it.
I'll quote Ken Starks: "A Child's Exposure to Technology Should Never Be Predicated On The Ability To Afford It"
I have installed openSUSE 11.2 with KDE (as this one works perfectly on that laptop), but I wish to put it in one of the languages (ordered by preference)
1. Serbian
2. Croatian
3. Bosnian
During and post installation there were neither of those languages available.

I have been trying to upgrade (ended up trashing and reinstalling) from 11.1 to 11.2. I selected French language with UK keyboard. This option seems in the end to just default to the French keyboad. Reinstalled with UK lang and UK keyboad which is acceptable to me but I then find a big problem. How do I set the compose key so I can enter accented characters etc. ( ...) Prior to 11.2 this was some with SAX but SAX support for keyboards appears to have been removed and I believe should be provided by KDE, Gnome, etc.
Does anyone know how to define the compose key in 11.2? I have searched google and the suse forums but found nothing other than something in German that I did not understand. While I could buy a French or perhaps better a Swiss keyboard for the tower this is not a real option for the laptop and on-screen keyboards are useless.
