I've been searching all over trying to figure out how to get my Slackware box to detect my 2 PCMCIA wired nics. Specs are:
Dell Latitude CPi (old, I know...)
Compaq 10/100 PC Card (series NNB108)
Xircom "Credit Card" Ethernet 10/100+ and Modem 56 (model: CEM56-100.
Slackware 11 (kernel 2.6.21.5)
Both cards work under Ubuntu 9.04 on the same hardware so I know they are both working and linux compatible.
Checking the /var/log/messages file I see entries when I insert or remove the card. States that a PCMCIA card has been added/removed however other than the /messages log entry there is no other activity that I notice. No lights on the NIC card dongles either. Most of the reading I've done on the net indicate that there should be a /etc/pcmcia/network.opts file but I don't even have the /etc/pcmcia directory. Sure would appreciate some guidance on where to go or what to do to get these two PCMCIA nics up and running.
I have got a netgear wireless PC Card WG511 made in Taiwan (not china). I have intalled it in windows w/acouple of ver. Settling on v1. I am first generation pc. maybe toold for Linux? I can't even figure out how to post in the Dam Small Linux website. But have read most of the posts in linux questions. I can't install a wireless card ;<( this is an old laptop and would be like usable if I get the *&^%$ wireless working. In fact, does anyone have a wireless card working with Dam Small Linux? I have the book but, it's not been much help. Other that telling me to add nodhcp in the boot startup. That didn't help either. I have learned alot through this misery of the wireless nic.

I am having problems with linux (2.6.32.9), pcmciautils (017) getting to recognise my PCMCIA card. The card is a Netgear MA401 and the module it should load is the orinoco_cs. It is an ISA->PCMCIA bridge using the i82365, and I've only got this one PCMCIA card to test things with.
The card is not recognised.
What does work is that the system recognises cards being inserted/ejected. However, the cards are not recognised (other than the card type/volts etc) ...

I've been using a Linksys WPC54G v1 wireless adapter with my old laptop (via Ndiswrapper) but it has died on me and I need to replace it. I've been looking at sites like Amazon and Newegg but of course there is no Linux support info there and some devices, and at least one manufacturer, aren't even in the HCL so no there. does anyone have any recommendations for a PCMCIA type wireless b/g adapter that will work with this system:
Toshiba A15-S129
Dual boot XP SP3 and Topologilinux 6.0 (Slackware based)
Kernel 2.6.14.2
Frankly I'd really like a drop-in replacement for my old card, but I doubt that's going to happen. (Considering there are, apparently, at least 7 different versions of that card now.) So I'll take what I can get. I'd prefer PCMCIA over USB.
Just completed installing Xubuntu 9.04 to my old Dell Latitude CPi and it seems to be working quite well. However I need to assign interface eth0 to my pcmcia network card (as opposed to eth1 or eth2). I have two cards to try out. One of them comes up as eth1 and the other as eth2. There is no eth0 listed when I run ifconfig -a. There is no built-in network cards on the laptop, so I don't know why it won't assign eth0 to either of the cards.
how to assign eth0 to either of the two PCMCIA network cards.
OK, so my laptop has defunct USB ports. I always did think it was a foolish idea to stick them all on the sides.
I workaround this problem with a PCMCIA USB card however, the device (USB modem) keeps cutting out.Sometimes I can get it working again by unplugging it and plugging it back in, but sometimes I can't.If I unplug the actual card, it doesn't seem to recognise it at all when I plug it back in.I don't like plugging it in and out anyway because it will wear it out.
So is there a way to get the machine to double check the device, or to dismount and remount through software easily?
Older laptop I just upgraded to FC13. I would like to use a Dlink DWL-650 pcmcia card. The system sees it.
#iwlist wlan0 scanning

Cell 02, same thing for my extender unit

inet6 addr: fe80::20d:88ff:feaa:aaac/64 Scope:Link

ifcfg-wlan0 is set for DHCP. Notice above no IP. If ifcfg is given an IP/mask still no IP. So it seems to be up and running, just not accessible.
I am planning to buy a wireless device that supports both monitor mode and packet injection options for my project work..I came across this site while browsing

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old PCMCIA card and I would like to use in a newly installed centos5.6. I want to use, but I do not know how. ifconfig-a does not return the card details. I can see the pci devices both the controller and the PCMCIA card as well. I read, I have to load the kernel module yenta to use the pcimcia card, but I couldn't. The /sbin/modprobe -l | grep "yenta" does not return anything, and do not have either of these modules in library
(find /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/ | grep yenta)
How I can move forward welcome, or where should I start to search or indeed whether the card can support? How to config PCMCIA Card at CentOS5 now?

I had this PCMCIA USB 2.0 card that worked in Lenny when I put this laptop into my closet in late 2009. I brought it back out a few weeks ago and put a fresh install of Squeeze on it, and it does not recognize the card. dmesg says something about "ignoring the device" (sorry, I don't have the machine in front of me).
Laptop in question is a Toshiba Tecra 8000. The PCMCIA card... has no brand on it whatsoever. I thought I had the box somewhere, but I have been unable to find it.
I just bought for my T60 a pcmcia cardreader (16 in1) from HT-Link (HT-190). In Windows 7 no problem, but squeeze does not evenzethe card. It's not shown in lsusb or lspci.lspcmcia showsSocket 0 Bridge: [yenta_cardbus] (bus ID: 0000:15:00.0)

I am trying to pin point the problem I am having with my wifi card which used to work just fine with F13 and after installation of F14 it hangs my OS.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get a card to work well with linux. I searched compatibility lists and found the NetGear WG511T to appear good. I got one and when I insert the device, Linux never sees it. In Windows, it appears like normal and drivers install. In OpenSUSE 11.3, the device is never recognized; no lights turn on, not listed under iwconfig, or networkmanager. I've installed the madwifi drivers, but they dont help since the computer never sees the device itself (to install drivers). Is there anything special I need to do to get the device recognized by the system?

I do not know why it is not assigning it an io address. I should also add that the parallel port is enable in the bios with the default address of 0x0378. I have also tried modprobe parport parport_pc and parport_cs and ppdev, still nothing.
I have a WPC100 linksys network card. I have ubuntu 11.04 installed. My laptop is a D610.
I have done a LOT of google searching and not seeing any solutions on how to successfully get it working.
I have tried the ndiswrapper and it does install the driver but then says "no hardware present".
I have also blacklisted the broadcom drivers.
I am coming to the conclusion that it will never be possible to get the WPC100 to work. (note I also have been to the support page and do not see it there. )

View 6 Replies View Relatedsome time ago I installed 8.10 on my x20 thinkpad. I at the time was trying to get it going on a Netgear WG511 v2 card. I was eventually successful in getting it going with ndiswrapper and all has been happy until...
I decided to give my laptop to an elderly friend for his first computer. He is living in a location where (for a variety of reasons) he is sharing a network connection to the internet with a few people. The protocol there WPA2 TKIP (IIRC) and no matter what the bloody thing won't connect. Here at home I run a different setup so its not a big deal
So, I thought I'd try another card to get it going there. I chose a "Aironet" card (badged a Dell 4800 LT) and tried to install this on 8.10
I expected it would install out of the box, but did not "seem to".
I followed the steps on this page, but still it won't connect to my WiFi at home (which I am using to connect to with this x31 thinkpad)
I am using Network Management Applet 0.70 and this works fine with the Netgear card, even showing all the local networks it finds.
When I plug in the Dell card it blinks the activity light and the status light in seemingly meaningful ways, but nothing seems to connect and I find nothing listed in the Network Applet.
I suspect that the OS is discovering the card as when doing an iwconfig I find two entries that would be that card:
eth1 and wifi0
iwlist scan returns:
which makes me think two interfaces are taking the same hardware...
iwconfig returns idential results for eth1 and wifi0
