This error only occurs on Zenwalk. When i run puppy from the live cd the file shares are always visible,without fail.Under puppy i use pNethood. Instead of upgrading to 10.10, I decided to install everything from scratch. Since the installation I can't make Firefox and Thunderbird work with the profiles I have always used on an NFS share. Locally Everything seems to work fine, but when I use the profiles on my NFS server I get in trouble. With Thunderbird I can read the email that is already there, but I can't get new one. It seems to hang during the connection. I can also write Drafts, and save them. RSS seems to work too. With Firefox I get the error "the bookmark and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application". When I try to open a url it doesn't work. Both applications start very slowly, but only when I open the profiles on the NFS share. I can happily read and write files on that share, so it can't be an access problem. I have a 64 bit machine, and I am using the Firefox 3.6.11 32 bit that I downloaded separately. Thunderbird is the one coming with the distribution.

I did fresh install of Slackware64 ver. 13.0 and immediately updated it to slackware-current by following the directions here: http://slackwiki.org/Upgrading_SlackwareSo far all is normal and functional except for xorg-server.When I did Xorg -configure under ver.13.0, it worked perfectly and detected my nvidia 8800 GTS vidcard and 1440 x 900 lcd monitor.However, after upgrading to "current" and xorg-server-1.9.4, I'm getting a segmentation fault and cannot configure a working xorg.conf.I've been searching xorg seg errors, but haven't found a solution yet.My /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

View 4 Replies View RelatedFirefox has this nasty habit of wanting to write to disk just as it's spinning down when I'm on battery...this is of course annoying because it'll probably shorten the life of the disk (it's doing it as I type this post!)
I figured that a solution to that would be to set FF's cache to be in a RAM disk instead of on the hard disk, so I tried following this guide on the Arch Wiki to set it up (the "Relocating only the cache" section). I followed it to the T, and it did nothing to change FF's disk usage. I even tried adding a /tmp entry in /etc/fstab that would supposedly mount /tmp on a RAM disk and pointed FF's cache to that...still no cigar.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop's been locking up in Linux (Ubuntu, Backtrack, Puppy) periodically for a while now. When it locked up, it was always immune to the magic of SysRq, which I thought might indicate a hardware problem. It became so bad that I had to stop using the laptop.
Today, when I turned it on and tried to boot into Fedora 12, I got the following error (just once, it just locked up at various points during the splash screen after this once):

All the seemingly missing letters were really missing, not my typos.
As you can see, kernel version is 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 and my laptop is a Sony Vaio TZ 250N (Core 2 Duo ULV 1.2GHZ). Note that with the other remaining kernels from the updates, nothing ever happened other than the locking up. The core temperatures hover pretty high, about 55-60C peak but this is still below the critical temp. Memtest came up clean when the problem first started happening.
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my dell pc and it working very well. I also connect linksys usb wireless card to pc and my pc receives network connection without any problem. When I try to open firefox browser it does say"firefox cant find the server at [URL]... and asking me to check network connection or make sure that firefox is permitted to access the web.

I have a problem with a directory which contains my music collection. It can't be opened; all other directories work fine. I can cd into my ~/Music directory, but ls gives segfault and KDE programs hang when trying to open this directory. The problem probably has appeared after the rename of subdirectory under the Windows (don't remember particular ext3 driver; can check tomorrow).fsck says that the partition is fine. The whole disk is mounted on the single partition. Windows is located on another physical disk.Is there any way to recover my directory?

From machine 1 (Fedora Core 8) I can ssh to machine 2 (Fedora Core 3)without any problems if I am logged in as root on machine 1. If I am logged in as any other non-privileged user and attempt to ssh to machine 2, I get a segmentation fault and the connection is dropped (after ssh asks for the password).
Everything was working up until last Friday (8/6/2010). I did upgrade the machine 1 from 512Kb to 2.0Gb memory then..

I've tried other OS (at that moment I was on Fedora 12, now on Debian; was a Suse also) and it didn't work. I've tried replacing my hard disk, since it needed an upgrade either ways - that didn't work either. I assumed that it's the RAM fault - tested them with memtest and it says they are fine. Does anyone know what else I can do in order to figure out where the problem is?
