General :: Finding Unmodifiable Music File Tags?

Oct 17, 2010

I have some music files (.mp3 and .flac) which have unmodifiable tags: After I change the tags, they revert to their original values automatically. It's not related to access permissions (using Linux) as in a same directory, with the same permissions, some files have modifiable tags and other not. Is there such a thing as "protected" or "unmodifiable" tags? Are there solutions to force modification ?

Ubuntu :: Finding A Program That Will Sort The Music Into Folders Based On Their Genre Tags

Feb 19, 2010

I used MusicBrainz Picard to tag FLAC and Mp3 files, fixed any necessary genre tags in Rhythmbox, and used EasyTag to rename the actual files. But now I'm interested in using those genre tags as folder names...is there any program that will sort my music into folders based on their genre tags?

Ubuntu :: Rename Folders To Music's Id3 Tags?

Apr 22, 2011

Anyone know of an application that will rename a folder to the contents id3 tags?

My music directory is a mess with folder names. Not a big deal since I use Banshee to library everything. I have a fairly large music collection on my main hard drive(140gb) but I keep id3 tags clean.

I'm setting up an ftp server and it will be impossible to navigate the way the folders are now.

Something similar for movies would be cool too.

General :: Amarok - Collection - Scanning Is Not Finding Any Music Files?

Mar 13, 2011

I have been using Linux close to 2 years now. One thing that always bewildered me is audio support in Linux. These days I login to windows only for listening to music. After reading various blogs, i decided to give it a try in Linux with Amarok. There again I am facing a problem.

while i try to scan for music files it is not finding any files.

what I did is as follows:

Quote:

Setting --> configure Amarok --> collection --> scan

I have tried with mp3 .wma format files. While I try to add these files individually, Amarok is able to play those.

I am using Amarok 2.3.2 with KDE 4.4.5. Fedora - 12 is my flavor.

Given below is the log obtained with amarok -debug option

Quote:

TagLib: MPEG::Header:arse() -- First byte did not match MPEG synch.

Software :: Finding A Music Editing/production/mixing Program?

May 26, 2011

I want to be able to open a file (support for .mp3 and .ogg a must) and add effects, change pitch and tempo, add beats (either default or midi created), mix with other songs (or clips from), be able to change levels of the high/mid/low, alter gain and frequencies ... all that fun stuff.

programs I already have are:

MixXx
LMMS (Linux MuliMedia Studio)
mhWavedit
-and-
gAlan

And it doesn't seem that any of those have the features I am looking for. I am running Zorin OS 4 (ubuntu 11.04 based) and Dreamlinux 3.5 (debian- unsure which release) on a fujitsu lifebook 5 series - S6240 (it's kinda old 2005).

OpenSUSE :: Finding A Open Source Music Composition Editor Similar To Sibelius

Jan 19, 2009

Looking for a Open Source music composition editor similar to Sibelius. I found and settled on Rosegarden. Sound card is Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX. I also have a midi keyboard which I would like to use with rosegarden. After downloading rosegarden, I found out in order to use the MIDI sequencer, I have to compile and install a real time kernel.

I finally got my kernel configured and installed, recompiled all the video/Ethernet drivers etc (after about a dozen tries ) Now on to the issue... As root, I can run the JACK audio server with realtime priority (as it is needed by Rosegarden) with the command

jackd -R -dalsa &

it starts up and seems to run. Then as a regular user, I try to connect to the JACK audio server using the qjackctl application. Qjackctl loads, but cannot seem to connect to the jack server, giving me the message "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO SERVER AS CLIENT"

HOWEVER, using the same procedure above as root, I can connect to the jack audio server with qjackctl. Rosegarden will start as a regular user but will also not connect to the JACK audio server (therefore: no sound or midi sequencer) Ive tried running Rosegarden as root (I didnt like having to do that), but get a similar error.

Through some googling, Ive found that JACK clients (qjackctl, rosegarden etc.) must be executed by the same user who launched the JACK server. -- no problem...Except I cannot run a realtime application as a regular user. I read online that regular users can start realtime applications using the LSM module (whatever that is, I couldnt find all that much).

how do I start the jack audio server in realtime mode as a regular user? if that is not possible...Is there a way to configure JACK so that it is started by root, but allows clients launched by regular users to connect?

Debian :: Wheezy 7.8 With Gnome 3.4.2 - How To Use File Tags

May 27, 2015

I'm using debian wheezy 7.8 with gnome 3.4.2.

In a random folder, if i right click on a random file for example a pdf file, i can see in the shortcut menu that appears the choice "tags". It is clear how i can create a new tag or associate an existing tag to a specific file.

My question is, how can i search for files that have a specific tag? For example if i have two files that i already gave them the tag "test", can i use some program and find that two files by using the tag "test"?

General :: Finding Data From A Text File?

Mar 22, 2010

I'm trying to write a shell script which finds bits of data from a text file. at the moment i'm using grep and basically i need a function which will look through the text file and take the data out of it. the file has days, months, years etc and i want it so i can type feb 06 and it finds all of the data for feb 06.

the problem i have is i can type feb and all the information comes back for feb, but i can't get it more precise e.g. feb 2009 and it finds just feb 2009, it seems to ignore that latter half. I've tried experimenting with egrep and having two inputs but i can't seem to fuse them together, it only takes the first input.

Ubuntu :: Cssh Not Reading Cluster Tags From .csshrc File?

Feb 8, 2010

When using cssh, I define some cluster tags in my local .csshrc file. Other parameters seem to be picked up by cssh, but the tags are not.I have no /etc/clusters or /etc/csshrc files. I create a fresh, default .csshrc file and append a line like:myhost = frodoWhen executing "cssh myhost", I get: Can't call method "name" on an undefined value at /usr/bin/cssh line 988This is the same message I get if I make up some destination, like: "cssh doesnotexist". So it looks like rather than picking up the tag "myhost" from .csshrc, and translating the command to "cssh frodo", it does a dns lookup on myhost.I've tried making a /etc/csshrc file like this (but without the equal sign), but that doesn't work either. This is all on Ubuntu 9.10 with cssh version 273.

Ubuntu :: File Manager Than Can Organize By Tags - Like An Image Manage?

Oct 8, 2010

Over the years of working with both images (many) and other files (many more) it seems that it is easier to organize images. There are a variety of image software (digikam, gthumb, the new "shotwell") etc. Its easy to organize them with multiple references - date, multiple categories etc. This in fact makes it easy & efficient in our multi disciplinary world to access the same image for multiple needs.

However the same is not true for other files (od formats, pdfs etc etc) the only way we seem to be able to sort them is by what folders we make. Of course we can use meta search engines to find it by other keyword / dates etc. But it is not the same as being able to give multiple tags to a file and later being able to retrieve by that particular tag.So am wondering if such a file tagging / sorting and accessing "thingy" already exists and if so what is it. Or it is available and i don't know where to look.

Programming :: Using Key To Match Against Source.txt File To Add Xml Tags To Names In Perl

Jun 21, 2010

Using a list of names (over 4000 of them) painstakingly gleaned from the source file years ago for a database file, I want to match the names against the source file so that they can be updated with the tags <forename></forename> in the original source file.

I placed the list of names in @forenames (only posted a few of them here).

Perl script is:

I am able to get the name bracketed by the tags to appear on the console screen but don't know how to apply the output to the source file. Perhaps I need to do a match on the words then some kind of edit to surround the matching words with the xml tags? I'm a rank novice doing this as a labour of love for a friend.

General :: Move Large Amounts Of Music Within A File Structure?

Dec 20, 2009

i have a car stereo that reads a USB drive with all my music on it, however to sort through the music it uses a method of finding folders containing music, then displaying them all in a list. i find this interface annoying because in order to sort the music by artist i have to go and manually move it out of the album folders by hand, this takes a long time for 11+ GB of music so i was trying to use the linux CLI to quicken the process. use a command like this

Code:

mv /media/usb/music/*/*/* /media/usb/music/*/

but for some reason this moves all my music into the last folder alphabetically in my drive, the music is all pre-arranged like this /media/usb/music/artist/album/song
