Jun 27, 2010I hope this is the right place to post to because I haven't found any other related forums.I'm working on an AMD opteron running Linux 2.6.28.6 I want to preload a hardware performance counter (register) with a value to have it overflow after a number of a specific event counts. As I understand, when the counter in the register overflows, an interrupt will be generated and handled by the appropriate interrupt handler. How can my user-level application get notified whenever the interrupt occurs? I want to obtain information on the instruction that caused the overflow. Is this possible? I think this is different than responding to signals with sigaction().

May 17, 2010I've restarted a server a couple times, and during the boot process pings respond when it brings up eth0, but then when i get to the command line login screen, the pings die. once i log in and do a ./network start the pings respond again, so i'm guessing its dying or not set to start automatically maybe? What should I check?

Feb 10, 2010Sometime after I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 I've been having trouble with my wireless network connection.It will usually log on to the network, then disconnect a shortly after. Then try to connect again, usually successfully, then it cuts off again. Then connects again, then disconnects. FWIW, ubuntu 9.10 works on a different machine pretty consistently, so I don't think its a problem with the router.

udevd[746] nss_ldap reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4 seconds)
udevd[746] failed to bind to LDAP ser er ldap://192.168.0.100 cant contact ldap
It fails and then tries again, and again, each time increasing the sleep time. This is happening before network sercvices are started so ther is no way it can connect to ldap. anyone know a way to fix this problem?

I have a box that is live with a couple of small active forums on it where the upgrade would take place.
I want to upgrade my box to stay up to date with the latest release of Fedora linux to take advantage of any enhancements or security fixes that has been implemented since version 4.
My box is colocated at a data center. Would it be best to upgrade from a CD or remotely? I have read there is quite a risk upgrading the OS remotely and some issues like broken files or dependencies could occur.

Jul 14, 2010I am forced, (from a higher power) to allow a script to run on my boxes that adds/deletes user accounts at will. It runs in cron.d. I would really like to be notified via email only if an account is added or deleted. I was thinking of a big process of copying the /etc/passwd file, doing a diff after the script runs, pumping the results to a file, then using mutt to send me the results only if the file has been updated. Problem is that it is kind of a bulky process and even if diff doesn't find any differences, it still updates the file.

I have limited Linux knowledge and no experience with any mail server software other than MS Exchange, so we cannot continue with this solution (unless I can find a way of managing it all from a gui). Does anyone know of an MTA that can be configured completely by GUI? Everyone says sendmail has millions of features and loads of documentation, but I simply do not have the time to learn it. I need something that can be configured with minimal knowledge and via GUI, not command line. The only reason I'm not using Exchange is to try to save money, and hopefully it will be more secure.

I was thinking I could image the drive but I not sure what to use, I don't have Ghost or anything, Someone had told me about Clonezilla. Would that work for me? Is it hard to use? Sep 27, 2010Our corporate wireless network uses continuously changing passwords with RSA tokens.So every time we need to connect to the wireless we need to enter a new password off the RSA token. For extra fun using the wrong password a couple of times in a row causes the users account to be locked.Network manager automatically stores and reuses the password, with the net result that it is constant getting my account locked.Is there some way to prevent it from storing my password for that network?

On the T510 wireless worked out of the box and is enabled when I boot it, on the S12 it's not. I have the wl driver installed but every time I boot the laptop wireless is disabled in knetworkmanager. I have to manually enabled it, then wait a few seconds until it establishes a connection to my already configured wireless networks.

Does this operate independently from the Online Update Applet(kupdateapplet)? The reason I ask is that the Applet doesn't always seem to work correctly. However, if the system will check for online updates automatically regardless of the Applet, perhaps this isn't an issue. If I can avoid messing with the Applet, that would be great.

Feb 2, 2010Brand new clean install of F12. On boot the network starts and grabs an IP from my DHCP server and will return pings, however, as soon as the logon window starts "all" network activety is stopped.
I have tried deactivating the NIC, then enabling again, (doesn't get an ip at this point), turning off the firewall, managing the network with & without network manager enabled, selinux off...all makes no difference.
Ubuntu Networking :: Network Time Out - XBMC Doesn't See The Share When It Starts
Dec 22, 2010I have a Ubuntu box (10.10 x64) that i use for XBMC (a media center), everything works fine when i boot up and start adding network shares (the shares are on a Ubuntu 10.04 x64 Server). it doesn't matter if i use NFS or SAMBA to mount the shares, both work. BUT when i reboot i get problems The share mounts come up but to late, XBMC doesn't see the share when it starts.
The thing i see is : When i boot up the lights of my NIC (realtek 8111) are on and flickering, but just a few seconds before the login prompt comes up the lights are off. And then after 15 to 20 seconds everything comes up again, and the shares are mounted, but to late for XBMC (my mediacenter software) i've installed new drivers for my network card (removed r8169 and installed r8168 ) but the problem is still there.

Jul 9, 2011I succeed in uTorrent server's install as a daemon in Opensuse 11.4 and it works great. I've already change my fstab file to add a network drive to be mount on startup localize in /mnt/freebox/. This is also working great. The issue is during the startup, utorrent starts before fstab and thus the network drive is unmount.
In my utorrent init.d daemon script, I ask for $Network starts in first time: Code: Required-Start: $network Is there any possibilities to order the startup and ask to fstab to start before uTorrent Daemon?

Apr 7, 2011I have a VM running Fedora 17 on VMWare over windows 7. I want to SSH to my university server from fedora but when I try something like: ssh myuser@server.com
I don't get request for my password. If I try to SSH using PuTTY in windows, everything is OK. Then I pinged the server and got the following message:
From 192.168.0.106: icmp_seq=2 Redirect Network(New nexthop: 192.168.0.1)
It repeated over and over. I tried NAT and Bridged network connection on the VM, but I'm not sure what this means completely, so I may have messed up somewhere around here.
General :: Keeps Disconnecting From Wireless Network?
Sep 12, 2011I'm running Arch Linux on an Acer laptop and my wirless connection doesn't stay up. After a while it disconnects, and when I try to reconnect I get stuck with a "Waiting for authorization" message. I have to retry several times before getting the connection stay up for few minutes. This happens with both networkmanager and wicd. The strange thing is that the iMac that sits next to the laptop connects fine, and when I use my laptop within the university wireless network it works normally.
EDIT: I've tried to connect manually following the steps

wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

Feb 5, 2010I have a desktop running Ubuntu 9.10 with a D-Link WUA-1340 (Supported - last on list) USB wireless adapter, through which I would like to set up a wireless network for internet connection sharing at home.
I have 2 ethernet adapters on my desktop (Eth0, Eth1), and an Apple Airport Express, which I initially tried to use, then thought it might be better to just bypass the Airport Express.
My problem is that although I create a wireless network and connect to it with my macbook, I am unable to access the Internet on it.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong, and have worked through WifiDocsShareEthernetConnectionThroughWireless a few times, as this seems to be exactly what I am trying to do.

Mar 9, 2010I would like to use a wireless network from Ubuntu. In the network drop-down menu I select a network (this is a University network I have an account there). Then I get a windows with the following fields:

Inner Authentication: [some

Password: []
I put there my user name and password and do not change default value and leave "Anonymous Identity"blank.
As a result of that I get "Authentication required by wireless network". How can I solve this problem?
I think it is important to notice that our system administrator tried to find some files (which are probably needed to be used as "CA Certificate"). He said that he does not know where this file is located on Ubuntu (he support only Windows). So, probably this is direction I need to go. I need to find this file. But may be I am wrong. May be something else needs to be done.

Mar 6, 2011I've beenhaving some trouble getting my wireless network card working on my Slackware 12 box. Currently it identifies the card and can scan for networks, but I can't seem to join a network. Here's some output:

It doesn't seem to be accepting the essid setting, and it's giving an error for the key setting. Also, I'm noticing an inconsistency in the wireless protocols. The AP claims that it's 802.11g with rates up to 54 Mb/s. But it should be 802.11n. It's an Apple Airport Extreme and the Radio Mode is set to Automatic and displays "802.11a/n-02.11b/g/n" on the Airport Utility. The interface also claims that it's 802.11g, though shows a rate of 300 Mb/s. It's a Belkin "Play" Wireless USB Adapter (F7D4101).
(Note: I'm using ndiswrapper and the WinXP drivers which were installed from the Belkin software.)
