View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone familiar with QEMU? I'm attempting to load F15 for testing purposes along with REL 6. This is what happens, all goes well until it is actually starts downloading files to the virtual disk which appears to work until it gets to about 1/2 way completed, then it hard crashes(actually shuts the machine down). Also I had to turn of ACPI because when it is enabled it just hangs the VM altogether. I'm wondering if I should also turn off APIC?
Is there some way of loading a VM in verbose mode or debug mode to see what is happening and maybe causing this hard crash. The log files for QEMU shows nothing other then the normal loading of the virtual machine, its given name, source ISO and things of that nature.
I created a file which in I tried both :

When I try this yum install kvm qemu libvirt python-virtinst qemu-kvm I become this error

I am facing an issue with 100% CPU usage under my system when running VirtualBox. Here are some further details:
My System Information:
CPU 1 name: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz
CPU 1 level 1 cache size: 32K Data cache. 32K Instruction cache.
CPU 1 level 2 cache size: 1024K Unified cache.
CPU 1 Mips: 2926.20
[Code].....
Well, each time I run Windows XP from my VirtualBox, I see the CPU usage at almost 100%. I experience a slow system even if no programs were running on my hosted Windows XP version.
I was wondering if there is a way for me to play with the settings so I can slightly enhance the performance. My PC is relatively fast under my Linux operating system. I need to know if there are some tips that I may follow when configuring the settings of my VirtualBox so i can achieve better results.
We have recently built some RAC (OS:RHEL55) servers and after the Oracle guys have installed their application, somehow the directory / is using the maximum space. I contacted the Oracle team & they say that their RAC installation doesn't create any files in the / directory. This is the o/p of '/' directory file system:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/datavg-vol2 498M 382M 62M 88% /
Also, when I checked the file sizes, I found that the following files were taking more space:
/etc/selinux/targeted/modules/active/
-rw------ 1 root root 17M Nov1 base.linked
[code].....
I don't know what these files are doing there, when I did a cat and cheked, I found the files containing this data:
nf_tre--
stem_dbusd_var_run_t...and some stuff like this Unable to decide whether or not to remove these files. Also, is there any way to find out what files are taking more space and whether they can be deleted or not? in order to free up some space in the / direcoty. As there are 10 RACs that we've build, I got to do something to fix this for all of the 10 servers.
I am using DSL thru QEMU. I was able to install it to a hard drive image.I started the SSH Service but I'm not able to connect to it from my Win 7 box via putty. I've edited the hosts.allow file to ALLOW external usersI've turned on the 22 port on my win 7 box firewall.

View 2 Replies View Relatedtoday I setup a USB drive to use Qemu to boot Backtrack. It was so easy my grandma could do this! My thanks goes out to anyone who worked on the Qemu project! Now, I am wondering, how hard it is to get a distro to run persistently, using Qemu. I would like to have my .bashrc, apps I install, small scripts I write, etc. saved instead of the default bootup each time.
It doesn't matter which distro it is as long as it is Debian based. I did find this thread which I will try later but it sounds almost like I need to boot from USB first... not quite sure. I was hoping I could get further insight from someone before I waist too much time working toward something that will not happen.
i heared that both modules are used to create virtual environment for linux, but what are the comparisons between them which differentiate them could you please explain them in brief .

My windows OS can connect to Internet. The following is the launching command which I am using now to launch qemu in windows XP.
qemuqemu.exe -L "qemu" -boot c -hda "debian4.img" -m 512 -localtime -ctrl-grab -usb -net nic,model=ne2k_pci,macaddr=52:54:00:12:34:56 -net user -redir udp:161::161 -redir tcp:4440::22
I'm developing my own OS, but I'm having some problems with Qemu, because I need to change the floppy image from grub.img to os.img while the emulation is running, but how can I do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to write a script to set the SGE job execution order. I named each job with 'job1', 'job2' and 'job3'. I want my script to do: When 'job1' execution is complete, 'job2' is executed; when both 'job1' and 'job2' are complete, 'job3' is executed.
First, I tried this following script and it worked well:
########
qsub -N job1 run1.sh # run1.sh includes "mv file_name1 file_name2"
qsub -N job2 -hold_jid job1 run2.sh # run2.sh includes "mv file_name2
file_name3"

I can't use shutdown -h now because I don't have permission (or root)the university script I have tells me to use ctrl-alt-delete but that doesn't shut it down like it says it should, instead it restarts it... so whats the safe way of doing this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using VirtualBox for really long time, and personally I like it a lot, specially the screen resolution auto change to fit the window size. Lately I have moved to qemu/kvm for the sole reason to learn kvm, I have been missing different things from VirtualBox, but Am trying to stuck with It for now as I said just to learn It. Now to my question, Is there a way to get an automatic screen resolution change to fit the window size of the VM like what I get in VirtualBox?

I have never set-up a chroot-jailed environment before and I am afraid I need some help to do it well.To explain shortly what this is all about: I have a webserver to which users send python scripts to process various files that are stored on the server (the system is for Research purpose).Everyday a cron job starts the execution of the uploaded scripts via a command of this kind: /usr/bin/python script_file.pyAll of this is really insecure and I would like to create a jail in which I would copy the necessary files (uploaded scripts, files to process, python binary and dependencies).
I already looked at various utilities to create jails but none of them seemed up-to-date or were lacking solid documentation (ie. the links proposed in How can I run an untrusted python script)Could anyone guide me to a viable solution to my problem? like a working example of a script that creates a jail, put some files in it and executes a python script?
In bash shell, is there a simple way for me to monitor the time taken to run a script and output the time taken?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using CentOS release 5.4 ( 2.6.18-164.9.1.el5xen ) and created an HPC cluster by using NIS ( for user authentication ) NFS ( as file system ) and mpich1 as parallel compilers and utilities and TORQUE as job scheduler. I want to make sure all users should use scheduler for job submission and should not submit the job directly ( qsub job.sh ).
I want to prevent all users from executing executable files created by self , from its home directory .
Suppose if a user create an executable a.out and if he tries to execute by ./a.out it should display an error. We should also allow users to execute normal user level linux commands .How can I implement such a set up in my environment
how I can receive emails about a cronjob execution or where to go to read about that? I am using CentOS 5.4.
