Jun 10, 2009I have set up an ubuntu server running PPTP Server for VPN connections. I can successfully connect from a laptop within the LAN, but taking that same machine to an internet connection and trying to connect back in does not work. The only difference is that when I connect from within the network, I am obviously using the server's LAN (non-routable) address, and when I am connecting from outside the network (from Verizon Business DSL ), I am using the Comcast connection's static IP address.
I have a static IP address on a Comcast Business Class internet connection. Router is set to forward pptp and GRE ports.
Works:
VPN Server <- Laptop
iPhone -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Does not work:
Laptop -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Here is the weird thing. I have an iPhone that connects flawlessly every time through it's AT&T data connection. The laptop however, gets to "verifying username and password", and then returns error 619. It seems that there is an issue only when going through the router using the PPTP client built into MS windows.

I'm attempting to create a vpn (pptp) using the networkmanager (0.7.1). I enter the gateway (I assume thats the server I'm trying to connect to) and my login information. What is the NT Domain?
When I try to connect it only tells me after a while that it failed to do so. How can I find the information on what went wrong in the process?

i want to configure my ppptp server to allow users access internet with their own public ips of class 62.2.3.0 62.2.4.0 62.2.5.0
every time i configure my server all users can get thier IPs but they only go out with my server IP same as NAT not routing.
can you show me the proper configuration to make my users connect with public IP and have internet access. use specific DNS ( i did this but some users can not brows by DNS)
is there any way to specify an expired date for each pptp user.

Sep 17, 2009I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.
I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.
Invoking pppd from the console, I can see that authentication succeeds, but then some negotiation goes wrong and the server terminates the connection. Here's the output from pppd, with the more sensitive stuff removed:

Apr 9, 2010I use an atom based processor of 1.60 ghz on intel d945gclf board. My ram is a zion 1gb @ 533mhz. Hdd is from western digital 80gb @ 7200 rpm. I have a broadband(dsl) connection from bsnl dataone (a state owned telecom service provider). I connect to internet via a huawei wa1003a ethernet/usb/wireless modem which is provided by my service provider. I need a username and a password everytime i connect to internet via dial-up.
I was using windows xp service pack ii. It was nice and easy installing my modem on xp either via usb or ethernet. Both ways it was easy as i have both the drivers with me.Only and main problem was fighting viruses. I tried many free downloadable anti-virus software to protect my maching. Initially they were fine. But after few months they stopped taking regular updates and became non-functional. I also tried symantec corporate v.10. But it has its drawbacks also. It made my machine perform like a snail.I had previously heard about linux based operating systems. But never tried one. As i am an ameteur in using computers windows xp was suiting my needs. Recently i saw an article in the newspaper about ubuntu which is a free open source operating system. And most important to me it is virus free.But here is a problem also. I cannot connect to internet. My ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala is not identifying my modem and a network between my modem and my machine cannot be established. Also i cannot create a dial-up option where i can give username and password.

Nov 10, 2010I installed mysql on FC14, but can't successfully create a new user. It lets me go through all the steps without complaint, but then I can't log into mysql as the new user.
Here's what I did.
1) yum install mysql mysql-server
2) service mysqld start ##sets up mysql
3) mysqladmin -u root password myownsecrectpass ##create a root password
3b) mysql -uroot -p; #log in as root, this works fine
4) CREATE DATABASE webdb;
5) CREATE USER 'anewuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password123'; ##create anewuser with a passwd
6) GRANT ALL ON webdb.* TO anewuser@'%';
7) FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Then I log out of mysql as root and try to log in like this
mysql -uanewuser -p
I enter the password and get this error:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

Aug 11, 2011i'm trying to create a database with the mysql that came with the suse installation, my problem is that i can't get mysqladmin to work it spits out this: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' exists! So I'm stuck at square one php info() seems ok with the installation and the installed client connects to my remote DB ok. I checked the server with ps -ef | grep mysqld and I get the following:

After that I tried to login to the pop3 via telnet and it failed as usual. After I checked the log file (/var/log/dov), but it does not contain any information about that failed login. May 13, 2010I have installed on a remote server phpmyadmin 3.3.1 and mysql 5.1.46 on a centos 5.4 OS.
Any newly created user with phamyadmin is unable to login both from mysql command line (from localhost) and phpmyadmin (localhost and remotely).
No prob when the user is created with mysql command line (from localhost). All of the users created with phpmyadmin, are not "visible" recognized from the show user command via the mysql command line. The setting I used when I create any user was the same as the ones with the mysql command line creation.
The error message I get when accessing from mysql command line (from localhost) is the following: "Access denied for user ... @localhost (using password: yes)"
