General :: Connection - Randomly Been Getting Samba Errors

We have a Debian Linux Server with Samba setup. It connects to our lab computers each night to pull new data over. It's worked great for several years. Over the last month or two it has randomly been getting Samba errors (13663, 13668, 13673, 13683, 13693, etc). I don't know if those numbers mean anything because they are all different. Usually after rebooting it would be fixed, but it seems to be getting more frequent.
This box was formerly running Ubuntu Server x64 9.04 on the same hardware and ran just fine. I have now turned it into a media center box running Ubuntu Desktop x64 9.10. Since this has been installed it freezes about once a day. When that happens I can't do anything with it, can't even SSH. Also, and current SSH sessions die and exit. I have checked every log under /var/log but I have not found the problem. There does not seem to crash after any certain amount of time, just after several hours of sitting idle.
Below are a few examples of the last entires in several logs. Note for the clocksource error I have already forced it to use different ones in my kernel options and rebooted but it still crashes, still with no errors to tell me what went wrong. I also know the rsyslog error is caused by a bug and would not cause the crash.
I changed the password on my samba server and now I cannot mount the share anymore from my Windows 7 box. The logs shows no errors whatsoever about authentication, is that normal? I remember from a long time ago that I never saw samba do that and it has made troubleshooting very difficult.
I changed the password with the smbpasswd wanuser command the samba version is 3.2.5
When I crank up the log level, samba shows lots and lots of totally irrelevant messages like connected and disconnected, but not why it got disconnected. On the Windows 7 machine, I get an error that the user and password is not correct. Why does Samba not report it?
I have a samba file server that has Windows XP machines connecting to it. Fairly regularly, I get messages such as the following. Are these anything to worry about? What do they mean? Nobody ever has problems with disconnecting or losing their mapped drive or their desktop shortcut not working.

Kubuntu 10.10 froze on me randomly. I shrugged it and rebooted. Then less than an hour later, another freeze. This was rare, so I started up Memtest86+ and let it go.
The results... were not encouraging.
Stock voltage on both. Never overclocked.
After pass 0 complete, swapped around various tests and ranges to check.
At pass 38, switched from full-range to test #5 2048M-3327M.
After pass 80, switched to various tests. No tests other than #5 generated errors.
So now my question is multipart...
One, is there anything that can be adjusted within linux itself to avoid triggering these errors (need to keep using this RAM for at least another week before I can afford to RMA it)?
Two, I'm assuming this does indeed point to RAM malfunction/damage, but if I'm wrong, what is going on here?
Three, if there is a way to adjust for these errors, should I still be RMAing it? If I do, I'm going to attempt to get some the same size/speed of ECC RAM. When I ordered originally, I wasn't aware the motherboard I'd picked supported ECC. Now I am.
Seems I'm not able to RMA this RAM at present, working with the company I got it from, but that option's just about out. Now, I read something about a kernel module called badram, but I'm finding little detail on how to go about activating it properly. Seems like if I can disable the one chip these errors are all occurring via, that would solve the issue just fine.
After some googling I found out that there might be a problem with highspeed external USB drives in Linux in general. Im using Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit and have now this problem I think. My external hard drive is working fine but when I type dmesg in a terminal I can see message errors that appear randomly with all my external hard drives. The problem is now, I have all my music on this drive and randomly I will have hangs while listening to music and the performance while tranferring data between my notebook and the USBs is poor. Anybody know a workaround for this problem or have the same experience or have more details about it? My principle USB device that I use is an iOmega 500 GB what I use on my Compaq 6730s. The other USB device is a Toshiba 1 TB. I tried to transfer the files into my homefolder to avoid this problem but there is no chance as on my notebook is no more space.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad SL510, with a "Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter (rev 01)" wireless adapter, on Ubuntu 11.04 x64. When I run updates, I get many resolve errors "Something wicked happened resolving us.archive.ubuntu.com," and other errors like that.Also, the internet connection runs incredibly slowly, and a lot of my downloads through firefox freeze and fail. On my computer, I mount at boot time through the /etc/fstab some shares.I was working flawlessly on 9.04 and previous version.Since 9.10 version, it sometime fails to mount the share and I need to run PHP Code:sudo mount -a to get my mount shared mounted. (the command "mount -a" always work).
I have an Ubuntu Server 9.10 box running Samba 3.4.0. It has 4 shares, one of which is a CIFS connection to an XP machine, another of which is a password protected share. All the shares work fine and well. However, lately the client has called to say that "everything's hanging and freezing" when they browse the shares via Windows Explorer (approximately 30+ PCs on network, variety of XP, Vista and 7 OSes).
Not all users always experience the problem, and I remote in to test when I hear this via an XP machine, and today for the fist time I also experienced this problem - browsing literally sticks and hangs. No entries in PC's eventviewer. They are running on Netgear switches, all the same age, a couple of months old. A simple reboot and and everything's fine again for an indeterminable time, then I get another phonecall and an unhappy client on the end!
I am using samba to share some folders from a Ubuntu server (10.04) onto Windows XP. This works fine, but once in a while (once/twice a day), samba crashes and leaves a dead.letter in the folder I was accessing. Here are mode details: lsb_release -a

I have a windows installation (partition) but have installed into freespace on the same drive using the auto-partition manager, etc, and everything is fine. I got my network going fairly easily by going Preferences > Wireless and inputting SSID and WPA encryption key (PSK). My router issues an WLAN IP, I can get on the net, I can see my other Windows PCs on the network, I can reach my router, and all is good.So after several hours of mooching about and looking at things, I have updated all the Linux packages via Synaptics (following a prompt to update everything) including GRUB. My dual boot now shows two versions of the OS:

I also set up my HP F4580 printer over wifi on the network though with slightly incorrect drivers (for the F4400 series as this was recommended at the closest match). It works, and I can print a test page no problem.The only thing is that now (since doing all that) Ubuntu seems to periodically drop my connection to the network and then request the network PSK again, but when I enter it, it spends time trying to renegotiate but fails, and then re-requests the PSK, over and over and it never reconnects. I have to reboot and then I can connect again (automatically), until it drops at some random point (like 5 or 10 mins later)
I could not find a solution to this problem anywhere. I use a ubuntu server to play (stream) mp3s and movies to other computers on my network. It works most of the time, but sometimes in the middle of a movie or a song it will drop/hiccup--saying it is "not reachable". I am not overtasking the server at all, and merely playing an mp3 that takes up less than 10% of the bandwidth, yet it drops it for a split second.
I have a WRT160N router (DD-WRT of course) with 4 clients connected (2 of which are wired). The ubuntu server is connected via ethernet and all machines have the same issue. It can't be the router because another Windows machine works just fine for streaming these files. I just can't understand how it can lose connection for a second or so. It may just be the file-system or some service that is hiccuping, but I have no idea...
I do randomly (as far as I know) loose my wireless network connection. The only thing to do then is to restart my router and after that it works for a while. I know this is not a hardware issue because I don't have this problem with KDE, only in gnome. I think this problem occurred after I started using 10.04, but then I changed to KDE and forgot about it. But now I'm using gnome again and loosing my network connection over and over drives me mad
My internet connection drops randomly in ubuntu but works fine in XP.The connection is not disconnected but i cant browse any sites,so what i do is i will reboot my system so that i can surf again but after few minutes the same problem is happening again
I am running the newest version of Ubuntu on my laptop. The connection randomly seems to massively slow down. After a speed test is run it registers at .05 download and Ubuntu crashes before it gets to upload. I reboot from the crash and it runs fine for a while, then it suddenly does the same thing. The connection is running fine on my Windows 7 desktop, I don't know what is going on. In transmission the upload speeds are running at ~100kbps though. If I try downloading a mere 400kb .torrent file it stops half way through, usually at 200-300kb done, downloading at 1.2kbps the entire time. This is getting very frustrating and I really don't want to go back to Windows.
Hey all, I have got this strange problem with my Slackware server acting as router and gateway to my internal network. It randomly disconnects the WAN connection after X days ( it is between 2-7 days ). This error messages occured in /var/log/messages just before it lost its WAN connection:

These message have started appearing the system logs </var/log/messages and /var/log/warn> since Mar 2, 2011. They seem to occur about every 13 minutes (780 seconds). What could it mean? Is it serious?

I have an Ubuntu development server and a Windows 7 workstation. I use Windows Gvim to edit files on the linux server, over a samba connection.Saving files from Windows change the Linux permissions in weird way depending on the Windows app I'm using and also depending on whether there's a file extension or not.Here are some testsNo extension; Notepad2: 644 to 764

I have an Asus laptop with a BCM4318 wifi chipset. result of lspsci command about wifi cards:

My ubuntu karma desktop is plugged into a wired connection that goes through a router and into my cable modem.Everything was working fine like it had been foseveral months yesterday morningSomething happened by the end of the day that has screwed up my wired networking. I plugged my laptop into the same cable thats plugged into my ubuntu, and the cat5 cable is live. Also when I plug said cable into the ubuntu box, the ethernet lights come on, or atleast a solid green one. Meanwhile the network connections Icon continues to have a red X and a tooltip saying "No network connection".
Under network settings, there is only one wired network "Auto eth0", but it says "last used: never" which is strange since I've been using this for months. When I click edit the main settings are MTU automatic, ipv4 automatic DHCP, and ipv6 ignore.hat could the problem be? By chance did a karma update get released that broke the networking
my wireless will connect to a well known connection but will sometimes drop the connection then tries to reconnect. Sometimes it will reconnect w/o a problem but most times it will fail and when it fails it will refuse to even recognize that same wireless connection.
If by a small chance it does recognize the network then when you click on it, it will ask you again for the password, which is already saved onto the computer. After entering the password it will try to reconnect, then fail.
Only solution is to reboot.
I was wondering if there was an easy temporary fix of just reloading the software that controls the wireless.Such as, my audio doesn't work when I boot. I need to reload the ALSA driver using sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload
Is there something specific to the wireless that I can force-reload and it will start working w/o having me reboot my PC?

When it disconnects, it easily reconnects when I disable/enable networking. But until I do.... Update: It disconnected again right after I posted this. Here is what dmesg | grep tulip:

Prior to the install of Xunbuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) the machine carried MSXP. The wireless card came with the machine. The machine used a cable connection by previous owner. Connection's been working fine in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackelope and Puppy Linux. Wireless card appears to be functioning. The system scans for the network, shows that connection is established by both icon in tray and message saying that a connection is made. The card shows both green lights active. The light that indicates a connection is on and randomly flickers. Tested Firefox for connection. Firefox is not receiving anything from the system. I have got the network manager functioning enough to say that I have a 'connection' but still cannot connect to server.

Help menu in 10.04 is listed as help menu for 9.04 so don't know if applicable to 10.04 debugging. When 'troubleshooting' wireless connections, I did a *sudo lshw -C network* command on terminal. The results *do not* show 'Claimed, Unclaimed, Enabled or Disabled as help menu indicates. The line that would show that information (*-network) doesn't have 'Claimed, Unclaimed, Enabled or Disabled'. I can send image of this query. I have tried two other wifi cards with similar results, no connection.
Since I installed Ubuntu I've had this problem that makes me loose connection to the Internet. The wireless-icon on the panel starts loading, and after like 5 minutes, it works again.I had this problem when I had Mint 11, but it happened more often.Anyone know how to fix? I have a problem with my wireless connection in ubuntu (natty with amd64bit) There seems to be intermittent disruption in my connection. Havent seen a pattern as yet, though it happens once a day. After that I cant get it to work at all and only restarting + reconnecting the USB device helps. Dont know what is going on.I have already read these pages : Commands and Wireless Troubleshooting.Here is my line of though1) Given that I am able to connect other devices to it while I am not able to connect through this desktop, I think the router is OK.2) I am able to work with it after restart + re-connection . And so the driver is OK and is loaded. The driver seems to be oK and loaded even while I am not able to connect.So why is this happening and how can I get this under control without having to reboot and re-connect the device everytime.Here are the output for the commands which will give you a more detailed idea of the process. I have setup a samba Active Directory PDC to essentially eliminate the cost of using a Windows PDC. There are other reasons but I won't go into those now.
So everything works fine apart from a couple of things that are bugs in samba until 4.2 which isn't stable yet on debian (so I read).
The one thing that doesn't work is users trying to change their passwords. I can change them from either the PDC or through Windows users and groups. If a user tries to change it they will get the message:
"Mutual Authentication Failed. The server's password is out of date at the domain controller".
I provisioned the domain using samba-tool domain provision, i have configured kerberos and users can log in fine....it is simply changing passwords that are the issue. I am not sure if this is a samba config issue or where it is. I would hate to have to fall back to a Windows PDC.

My computer was getting slow. I know I had a problem with flash for sure. I was thinking it was because I haven't done a dist-upgrade in a while and there were a lot of updates.
So last night I backed up all my important data and did a dist-upgrade. Well now IceWM no longer shows and it just boots to command line. Not the first time I've done that.
Anyway, when I run 'apt-get -f install' I get hung up with errors on Samba.
Errors were encountered : /var/cache/XXX...samba_2%3a3.4.8~dfsg-2_i386.deb
I tried to remove samba but was unable to and 'dpkg -r --force-all samba' returns a processing error.
The error states that it can't locate File/Temp.pm in @INC.
I am sure someone with more knowledge could easily salvage this. Funny, I have been running sid for 5-7 years now and it has given me very few problems. And pretty much every problem has originated from my hand. Typing the wrong thing, accepting the wrong option, or accidentally deleting the wrong folder.
Since I upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 my wireless connection is very unstable. I install the needed wireless drivers from 'Hardware Drivers' (Broadcom STA wireless driver) and I got wireless connection, but it randomly disconnect, and also connection is very slow.
I think that the problem are the drivers which are not very compatible with this version of Ubuntu, which means we need to wait for update? I have HP ProBook 4510s laptop, Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN network card & Gembird NSW-R2 router. I'm only having this problem on Ubuntu 10.04, on other OS's the internet is fine.
I often see DBus errors when I unmount network shares (samba). In every instance, they unmount fine. In every instance, I notice no weirdness. Yet these errors randomly come up. There's no pattern to it whatsoever.
