General :: Configure Squid Sever In Ubuntu With Webmin.first
Feb 14, 2011
i want to configure my squid sever in ubuntu with webmin.first my machine spec i have xeon with two prosesors 3gb RAM 3 scsi hard drives each 72gb .two ether net card ,one is attached with adsl modem and the second is conected with MY LAN . now what i want is to configure my server to acess only those user whos ip bind with mac. and act transparent proxy sever with user bandwidth control.thats it
I want to know that by default do we need to configure SMTP and POP3/IMAP sever for sending and receiving mails in Linux server and client machines or we can directly send and receive mails without configuring these mail servers?
Using 10.4, got the webmin installed and squid. Got my access control list setup.Within the acccess control list setup, I can not go to sites likemethodistmd.org or mollimd.org for whatever reason. But I can go to votekirkland as well as google. Why would webmin and/or squid only work with certain sites within the the defined access control list?
I have a proxy server (squid-3) that I would like to setup Dansguardian to do additional web filtering.
The system:
Ubuntu 10.10 - all updates as of today Dansguardian - 2.10.1.1-2ubuntu0.1 (latest update) Squid3 - latest update (not squid 2.7) Webmin - 1.530 (all updates) Webmin dansguardian module - 0.7.1
Ok - I have all of the above installed. When I go to the DG module page in Webmin, I get the following:
Warning - the version of DansGuardian you have is not supported by this Webmin module version Webmin Module Version 0.7.1 supports DG version 2.10 (& 2.9) Currently installed DG version
This obviously makes no sense, since I am running DG version 2.10.1...
PS. I have squid installed, but not configured (still tinkering) - could this be the problem? That squid needs to be running for DG to work?
I am trying to set up sendmail on my intranet (home) webserver, so that it will send mail via my ISP. I have searched for similar threads including this thread, but the responses do not seem to have solved the problem. All I want is to call sendmail from Perl, to post myself the responses to a test form I am building, using my normal internet mail address. I do not want to receive or relay mail from any host except the web server itself (127.0.0.1).
I have edited sendmail.mc to define SMART_HOST as my isp's mail server and MASQUERADE_AS to be my local network name (which is not a registered domain - it is just the name I have given my home intranet). I have run make and built a fresh sendmail.cf, then restarted sendmail.
Using my form, I am able to submit the message to sendmail, but after 40 seconds the mail log shows a message
I am using Mandriva 8 as my local server, i want to configure sftp sever by which particular user can access particular directory of our local server by using ftp client, can anyone tell me how can i do it?
I installed webmin on Debian apt-get install webmin. After installation following message came. Code: Setting up webmin (1.510-2) ... Webmin install complete. You can now login to https://IP:10000/ as root with your root password, or as any user who can use sudo to run commands as root. So I infer that the installation was successful.
But when I do Code: http://IP:10000
I get following error Code: Error 111 (net::ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED): Unknown error.
I just installed Webmin on this CentOS 5.5 client and would like to know if it's possible to remotely administer the Squid server. The one I'm using for webmin is different from the one where Squid proxy is running.
i have been looking up ways to block websites in linux but most all of the free ones only block the sites the software makers want to (or you can't block just the sites you enter without blocking the sites that it wants to)i need to know how to block only websites i enter with squid using webmin
I have had webmin running previously but i just recently installed Unbuntu server and i am now trying to install webmin. after typing this to install webmin sudo apt-get install webmin it started doing its thing and then it halts.
Giving me the following message: "Package webmin is not available, but is referred to by another package. this may mean that the package is missing, had been obsoleted , or is only available from another source."
The first thing i did after installing webmin was edit the sources.list
Then i tpyed sudo nano sources.list I uncommented everything with "deb" in front of it
I also uncommented
deb cdrom:
I then typed this sudo wget [url]
After getting that i typed this apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl
I am using Red Hat Linux and i want to to configure SQUID server on it. The server has two Lan cards.WAN eth0 192.168.1.200LAN eth1 192.168.1.210 I have a static IP from my ISP. In my private network i have 40 computers running windows xp and fedora ,ubuntu as a destop pc's from range of 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.40 In my server computer I can brows internet because it is directly connected with the ISP.For configuring squid should I first make this computer as a gatewat by packet forwarding i.e # echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forwardand then configure for squid server
I have just installed Squid proxy. i also use WPAD to deploy policies for all client. Both works well together. Now i want to configure firewall Juniper SSG140 will be deny all request from client to access internet and redirect to Squid. I mean deny HTTP & HTTPS except Squid (port 3128), even i want to all access to internet have to through Squid proxy. I don't expert about the firewall Juniper. May i know step by step configure it.
I'm a bit of a Nooob to Virtual hosting. On my internal network 192.168.1.x I have a dns server running bind9 My DNS / web server is 192.168.1.3 I have succeeded in getting [URL] to resolve and it goes to my web page in /var/www/ Now I want to get say [URL] to go to /var/www/music/
1. What's the best way to go about this? 2. Can I configure it using webmin or do I just do it the old fashioned way through a terminal? 3. I tried virtual hosts via the following method
Added to /etc/apache2/sites-available/default NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.3:80 Then created /etc/apache2/sites-available/music.7rocks.com <VirtualHost 192.168.1.3:80> ServerName music.7rocks.com ServerAlias music.7rocks.com
I encountered a a dependency issue when trying to install Webmin on Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04 Beta1.
When you try to install webmin, libmd5-perl is not available in any of the lucid repositories:
I resolved the dependency prob by adding the following repository to my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb [url]
Then I did a sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install and libmd5-perl installed fine along with webadmin. BTW. I got a GPG error when doing a apt=get update because I did not import the public key for the debian repos I used to get libdm5-perl, which doesn't matter to me as I commented out the repos once I got libmd5-perl installed.
I am using Squid Proxy Server alongwith Dansguardian, dhcp3 and ClamAV on my local network. Everything is working fine except for .flv files like [URL]. The problem is that Squid wants to download the whole .flv file first to its cache and then serve it to the client.
It has an advantage that the whole video loads at once on the client's browser but that is not what our users want.
What they want is that these files load on the fly as they do on a normal internet connection. How do I configure squid to serve .flv files on the fly to the client PCs?
how-to configure squid proxy server. I still haven't been able to find a solution. I want to set up squid as a open http proxy server. So people from other networks can connect through the proxy without having to login.Do I have to use iptables to reroute http traffic to squids proxy port? I have forwarded the port in my ISP modem so I know thats working, its the squid config that has flaws or iptables locally.
I want to configure squid server with SSL so that users send clear text username/password and also data in encrypted mode. i googled but all of the configuration is for reverse proxy not requests from users to proxy server in LAN for example.
I am using Squid server on my Red Hat Linux machine.Squid is functional and clients are access through proxy.I want to ask that if I want to open my squid.conf file for any changes should i first stop squid and then do the changes .
