General :: Compilation Of Firestarter-1.0.3.src.rpm For Powrepc?
May 13, 2011
I am working on ubuntu right now and it is quiet easy to install firestarter firewall on ubuntu thru GUI interafce but my requiremnet is to install firewall on target (powerpc 8560 ),so i have to compile firestarter source for target powerpc (montavista linux) and installed it on target. I have downloaded firestarter-1.0.3.tar & .src.rpm file both but not able to compile it for my target which is powerpc (8560).
1.How to compile source code for powerpc ( I have environment created for ppc compilation but do not know how to modify the configure file to change the compiler) because it is compiling firestarter source code with gcc compiler bydefault i. e for host. How can i change the compiler " CC "? 2.What will be the executable created to be installed on target after compilation ? 3.Is the cross compilation for target is possible?

I installed firestarter and then at a later date uninstalled/purged it, both actions via synaptic. I have a very verbose boot, I like to see what's going on, and noticed after the uninstall/purge that I was getting an error zooming up the screen containing firestarter in it. After many restarts I found that a file was left in /etc/network/if-up.d/50firestarter and this file was simply a script trying to restart firestarter. At this point I've commented out the calling line and followed the commented line with exit 0. This removes the error but there's still a link calling the file so, is this a bug or am I missing something? It appears the uninstall/purge wasn't entirely complete.

My firestarter is denying connections on ports 80 and 443, despite the fact that I have set rules to allow both the services, and indeed any connection from my gateway (the source of the connections).
Can someone please advise why this might be?I can surf the 'net fine, unfortunately I cannot load facebook, gmail, or another couple of sites that require logins, and I assume this is due to HTTPS not communicating properly.(On the off chance anyone can answer these real quick, I'm also trying to solve my resolution resetting every time I restart, and one of the icons in my KDE panel turning into a widget from an icon every time I restart. Still working on these, but just if anyone knows already).

I'm trying to compile a fortran code (not my own and I don't know fortran well) and have been having some trouble as the compilation starts and then fails as the computer completely freezes (as in press power button freeze). I added 1.5Gb swap memory as the computer only has 1GB and then tracked the memory use as the process happened and it seemed that the swap wasn't even used. The memory usage hit 90% of the 1.Gb and the machine froze again. The compiler is gfortran

I wish to know that which gcc release version had support on ARM 9 multicore system by using pthread library for its parallelizing method on ecos rtos.I assume that the compiler that support the single ARM 9 processor will surely compile its multicore version also. But i need a clarification about it.It is good if you give a article or provide a suitable link on the ARM multicore programming and its compilation method

I have ~200 c files in my makefile[$(SRCS)], and it compiles all of the files using a single gcc command. So each time I make a change in one c file, it ends up re-compiling all the files, then linking to make the
binary. How can I break out the compilation into individual gcc commands for each c file, so that make checks the timestamp and accordingly compiles only the modified files.
My current Makefile looks like this.

compiler problem (f77) which arises when I try to execute a bash script ("compile" see [1] below) running under Cygwin on WinXP. The script finds the correct file(s) but the compiler does not recognize them as fortran source files. If the script is executed sequentially from the command line then there is no problem.
The directory structure of flh971da contains two subdirectories flh971da/scripts and flh971da/source. The compile script [1] is shown (in part) below. The script changes directory to flh971da/source, and compiles source from subdirectories flh971da/source/n where n=a,b,c etc and places the object files in flh971da/source/nobj n=a,b,c... etc. The response to flh971da/scripts/compile script is given below [2]. It is clear that the compiler (f77) locates the correct source file [4] (flh971da/source/a/a00aaft.f) but does not recognize it as a fortran source file. All relevant files have been processed with d2u. I suspect the problem is with the script, but I have no idea how to fix it.

this is in part a *****. The Yast2 firewall interface is inferior. Firestarter and Guarddog are much better - but they are not in the packman list of stuff you can install because you like it better. How many of you care to offer an opinion as to why these other firewall apps are NOT packaged for openSUSE installation?

Firestarter sometimes shows up to a dozen different ip connections for a single webpage that I open. This is for the first webpage I open, not after I have been browsing for awhile so they are not old connections that have not timed out. This just doesn't seem normal to me since other installs I have had of ubuntu have only shown one or two firefox connections at all times.

I have wireless connection between my router and PC. It is the only computer connected. Sometimes Firestarter blocks ports 1900 and 6771 from 192.168.1.100 IP address and sometimes port 68 from 192.168.1.1 IP. I'm a bit confused because 192.168.1.100 is the IP addres i use to open ports in router and 192.168.1.1 is used to access the router settings..

I allowed ports 3689 and 5353 for incoming and outgoing traffic in firestarter but my other machines wont detect a DAAP share. They do see them when I turn off firestarter. I'm even more confused when I see that I have a local connection using port 56690 when I turn off firestarter and monitor the log. It seems that DAAP is using 56690 but when I allow it for incoming/outgoing it still doesnt pick up my DAAP shares.
Is there a way I could fix this? I mean, I could run without a firewall but...idk if thats such a good idea :/

I just installed Firestarter on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit. When I go to the "Policy" tab I cannot add a new rule. The buttons on the tool bar are grayed out. Same with the Policy menu items.
Never mind. I just found that by clicking in the empty area below "Allow connections from host" the + button becomes enabled.

I have a question about anybody who knows how to use firestarter firewall. I'm trying to get access to a Macromedia flash site that needs port 1935 open. While it is not a big issue to open the port, I want to do it just for the server that needs it. I do not want to open it to everybody else. I wonder if anybody has any idea of how to do this. Normally I just go to www.redhotpawn.com which is a chess playing site. I then pressed on the blitz button to go into a game. But it tells me access denied, and then the site has a warning about what it means. The site that mentions that if this is the case then this port has to be open. I don't have a problem of opening the port for the one site as I trust it. But I don't want the port open for every site. I know I can go into the firewall settings and under policy I click on the allow service port for. I put in the port number, but then I don't want to select all. I want to find out what the IP, host or network that I need to allow. Basically I only want to open the port to the one site.

However, after restart I got error message: Starting the Firestarter firewall... failed! and then, later: startpar: service(s) returned failure: firestarter ... failed! Why this happens?

how to configure my firestarter firewall. I have a website which requires the port 1935 to be open. I figured out how to open the port using firestarter. Is there anyway to make the port open only to this website, and not to every other website for security reasons of course.

I have a bit of an odd network setup, shown in the pic here:I am trying to remote desktop from the XP boxes on the side to the one on the bottom, behind a Debian box/firestarter firewall. Is this possible to do without changing my network (IE wiring/topology) setup? If I had my druthers, I would put the router behind the Linux box, before the XP box, but my work laptop does not allow me to connect in that fashion as I can't change the internet settings.
I am certain the setup is correct on both the Windows clients and host, so it has to be something with my firestarter firewall, or something else I'm completely missing. I have the RDP port opened on firestarter, but whenever I try to connect to the XP box, whether it's by computer name or LAN IP address, it is unable to connect. I had thought about setting up a VPN server on my Debian box, and then VPN'ing to it, and then in turn RDC'ing to my Windows machine. Is this possible? If all else fails, I may just plug the Windows box directly into the router and deal with the lower security or get a second wireless router just for my work pc.
