suppose i have two file with same name fstab one file is located in /etc and the other is located in /root/ If i make a change in /etc/fstab file the changes has to reflect in /root/fstab . Is there any command to do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to modify the file access time in a Python routine I have. I have I believe the correct code for this but have a greater issue. Looking at a random file in my home directory I can see it was last accessed yesterday (I didn't open this file yesterday) so it was presumably my virus scan. No problem there Now I have opened the file today,rescanned the file for viruses and read the file in Python and the file access time remains the same!I have checked the access time by right clicking on the file and choosing Properties, using "ls -lu", and using os.stat(path) in Python.

First: 0 to 490000 bytes of file
Second: 490001 to 1000000 bytes of file.
I will be downloading this to separate download destinations and will merge them back to speed up the download. The file is really large and my ISP is really slow, so I need to get help from friends to download this in parts (actually in multiple parts)

aget seems to download in parts but I have no way of controlling precisely which part (either in percentage or in bytes) that I wish to download.

Just to be clear I do not wish to download from multiple locations, I want to download to multiple locations. I also do not want to download multiple files (it is just a single file). I want to download parts of the same file, and I want to specify the parts that I need to download.
this i am sure is a very newbie question i have been using linux for a while now Fedora 14 and am still stuck on one issue even though i have trolled the internet for hours. i want to install the 7300 gs driver however when i go to terminal and type: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12.run i get the error you must be root. so simple i type su --login add my password then when typing the run command i get the error that the file is not located in root and can not run. so my question is how do i do it. if i cd to home i loose root permissions if i try sudo sh file.run i get the error it is not one of the sudoes.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMissing ifcfg-eth[2-5] fileset for ZNYX 345Q Quad Port 10/100 cards. I have showing in the gui network device that my ports for my ZNYX ZX345Q Quad Port card my ports are Auto eth2, Auto eth3 etc. My Motherboard and Intel cards show as System eth0 and System eth1.
There ARE corresponding entries for those in my /etc/sysconfig/network-settings/ directory, but there are not ifcfg-eth[2-5] files to correspond to these adapters. Can I just write my own files and that will do it?
How does Fedora 12/13 load these drivers into the kernel without having these ifcfg files?
I'd love to know if there is another way Fedora controls NICs / other system resources.

I am changing the password of a truecrypt file container. This takes around 1 minute. Why?

If I use strace I see that it basically does not do anything: it simply reads lots of random data from /dev/urandom (even if i specified /dev/null as random source) and finally changes the password:

Running RHEL5 and because of the environment that we are in we have to disable the users being able to change the screen saver. I have tried using the gconf-editor to see if I can disable it but don't know if that is the correct way of doing it. I also looked in /etc/xdg/menus and really don't want to miss with that.

I was doing a tutorial on scripting in bash. I saved my file on the desktop and I cannot seem to get to that file to execute it. Here is what I have been using:
I try cd Desktop says that there is no such directory.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a bit of a problem and the only solution I can think of at the moment is a very tedious one, so I was hoping there would be a better way. What I am trying to do is cross compile the PPPD program so that I can install it on an embedded system (this system does not have make/gcc on it). It was easy to cross compile it, but I can not run "make install" since I'm compiling on a secondary machine. I don't want to install PPPD on this secondary machine (I couldn't anyway, because it was compiled for a different architecture) and I can't run make install on the target machine because there is no make/build system for it.
So it seems like what I would have to do is to manually copy over each compiled file from the build machine to the appropriate location of the target machine. And the only way (that I know of) to figure out how to do this is to manually examine the Makefiles (yes, there are several for PPPD) and figure out which file should go where on the target system. This isn't trivial because it uses a hierarchy of makefiles and the probability of human error for this method is high.
Is it possible that I could run another command that would give me a list of all the commands that make install would perform? Or a list of all files and their target location for "make install"? Or possibly some other solution that I am completely unaware of that would make this task not so painful and error prone?
I want to search for all files on my server that end in a couple of differnet filenames, and then have the location of them sent to a file.
What is the best way to achieve this.

Those videos are listed in the recently opened files list under the 'Movie' menu. I was trying locate these files on my computer since I can still play them by clicking on them in the 'Movie' menu, but I can't figure out where they are. I tried using 'locate' on the command line and it isn't bringing anything up. Can anyone tell me how to find the location of these files?

Any files we transfer through ftp from windows , their default permissions to be set 755 automatically . We are using Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 7) .
I like to redirect the print output to a file for later analysis and I was able to do this in an old Fedora 9 but with the new installation of Fedora 13 or Ubuntu 10 it is not working! I always get an error when selecting a directory/filename like file:///tmp/output.prn.
