Jul 17, 2010When you press exit the gnome-terminal exits.. where is the exit file located? (It isn't at /bin or /sbin or /usr/bin or/usr/sbin )

Debian Configuration :: Script "test" Is Executable And Located In /etc/init.d?
Feb 11, 2011brand new Squeeze box built toady - I'm trying to install a init script and I want it to start last and only in runlevel 2...
The script "test" is executable and located in /etc/init.d
so I run update-rc.d -f test start 2 95 - I expect /etc/rc2.d/S95test but instead get S01test
On my Lenny boxes symlinks in /etc/rc2.d are in the S10 - S99 range but the Squeeze box has the same services in the S01-S06 range?
Did something change in Squeeze?
I also tried creating the symlinks in rc2.d manually but the script never ran...
Ubuntu :: Cannot Open An Executable File Because Of Executable Bit?
Jun 20, 2010I am running into a snag on .exe files in Lucid. I have Wine installed, but I can not open the file as it is blocked from executing with a window popping up telling me that this file was blocked due to security reasons. I go into the files properties and try to change the permission but that does not help. Is there a way to get around this? Possibly in the terminal as root?

May 20, 2011this i am sure is a very newbie question i have been using linux for a while now Fedora 14 and am still stuck on one issue even though i have trolled the internet for hours. i want to install the 7300 gs driver however when i go to terminal and type: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12.run i get the error you must be root. so simple i type su --login add my password then when typing the run command i get the error that the file is not located in root and can not run. so my question is how do i do it. if i cd to home i loose root permissions if i try sudo sh file.run i get the error it is not one of the sudoes.

Feb 18, 2010In a project I'm working on with a few other people, I got the task of writing an assembler. The last thing I do is convert the commands into a binary representation, and jam it into a file. Now one of my teammates said he'd like to be able to "reference" the code within another program. He said he'd be able to do this if the file I output is a Linux object file. I'm thinking it'd also work as an executable. Anyway, he said he'd like to be able to grab the file and reference the binary by address. I'm still fuzzy on this, and if you're confused with what I said here, please tell me so I can ask him for better details.Anyway, I'm aware that gcc can compile files to ".o", but that's only for C/C++, and my file is just binary. I'm also aware of "ld", but I haven't seen any use of it to help me. I'm happy to hear suggestions as to what I can do. If anything, I think I'll implement a few functions to grab the bits and hand them to him in an array or something.

May 2, 2010I bought a new SD card which I intend to put some MP3s on - except that I can't write to it because it tells me the destination is Read Only. No-probs thinks I: I'll just reformat it.

Various chmod commands all result in Read-only file system. I tried umount then mount commands, but it couldn't find it to mount once I'd unmounted it using the same /media/ file path (I assume it's the only one).

Another thing is when I copy a PDF file to my pendrive, it become executable file with asterisk (*) append after the PDF name. I've try copy whatever to pendrive but all end up with executable file.
