need to talk to ubuntu 10.04 via normal telnet. nstalled telnet from repository, this allows me now to contact other machines from this ubuntu, but I need also to contact this ubuntu from other machines. What do I need to do to enable telnet service reachable via standard p 23?
I have a PC that is using Ubuntu Karmic. It serves only to download stuff, and is on 24-7.
Can I set a limit to download speed for Deluge and aMule throughout the day (so that it doesnt interfere with other network stuff) but unlimited during the night? (when we are all sleeping)
I have accidentally stoped gdm3 service with BootUP-Manager and now i cant enable it again. I can start it from terminal with sudo service gdm3 start i have tryed to dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 and purge/install. This are services running on startup [ + acpid
I have a slackware 12 distro (actually backtrack 3) that I want to enable FTP logins. So I start the proftp service with in.proftpd But when I attempt login with ftp, I get "530 Login incorrect" after entering the correct password for the account.
When installing Samba and Webmin I use the application "system-config-services" or (if it is easier to find for you that way) menu->Administration->Service management. In this application I can start the services I need (nmb, smb, webmin), but the enable/disable at startup setting is greyed out... Even when I start the application as root it still gives me no possibility to configure the services to start up on boot. This should be possible. It works this way in Fedora 13 and Fedora 14, so why not in Fedora 15?
Before reporting a bug, I would like to ask if other users here have the same problem (and -if possible- a solution)... In the mean tim I guess it is back to the old way of configurating services - sigh..
[edit] I tried to remove the [SOLVED] from the title, but the forum software does not seems to allow me to do that... I thought it was solved by installing xinetd, but I was happy a bit too early. I still have no answer for this problem.
I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
I am running Server 10. I have a requirement to perform an action before the MySQL service starts, and perform another action after MySQL service stops.
I found the init script for MySQL under /etc/init/mysql.conf. I added my thing to the pre-start script there and works fine.
I am having trouble finding the script that stops the server so I can modify.
The desktop search has stopped working in Gnome.I get a message that says 'Search Service not running' with a button that says 'Start Search Service'.When I click the button nothing happens
I'm trying to start a service that depends on networking being started, whenever the computer is rebooted. Is this easily possible from an /etc/init.d script? I have tried creating a script here (conforming to the standards), but I'm really doubtful that it's even running on boot, let alone working. When I test it manually, it works. How can I make a script that runs on boot which runs after networking has been started?
How to add an application to run as a service in Linux?is there a script in /etc i should edit? What is recommended. Right now im running something in .profile but that's kind of not what i want.
my linux bos red hat Ent 5.0 is reporting CPU usage 100% for the service/agent cimserver.basically is slows down my system and I have to kill it so my system is OK again.my question is Can I set the CPU usage for this service? I mean can I set it to use only 4% or 10% of my CPU? or any other way to troubleshoot this 100% CPU usage. Since I've uninstalled and reinstall the agent and same issue.is it possible to set the CPU Usage?
I'm not used to using Ubuntu or Debian as a server. I'm more accustomed to Red Hat/Fedora ways and even Gentoo (yikes).
Under Red Hat installs, you can often configure most services that start from init using config files in /etc/sysconfig named by the service. Is there and equivalent thing under Ubuntu?
Specically I'm trying to control how the libvirtd and kvm processes are started as far as command line options go. I need to add the --listen option somewhere.
My question is how to check whether this script is running or not (It can be checked every 10 minutes) and how to make it as a service. (I don't have root access to put this in rc.local file or somewhere else).
One of the dedicated servers that I have does not seem to have the service 'named' functional: root@server2 [~]# service named start Locating /var/named/chroot//etc/named.conf failed: [FAILED]
Note that the double slashes (//) ARE part of the output as well as the long gap before [FAILED] appears. This 'named' service not being functional is not a problem which is preventing the server / the application on it from working. There are entries in /etc/resolv.conf though.
I installed MySQL and I want the service to (always) start. When I google I always find the same answer; Goto System > Administration > Services. But I don have it. Administration for me goes from 'Printing' to 'Software Sources', so there's no 'Services'...
Also should I be able to start it from a shell, but I also can find that. (I have no /etc/rc.d/-directory and my /etc/init.d/-directory han no 'mysql'). I just started using Linux a few days ago (I only used MaxOsX and Windows before).
I want to completely remove a service i.e ypserv from my red hat linux service list.that how can i completely remove a particular service from the service list
I want to learn using SSH (Secure Shell) service in linux and connect to SSH server with PuTTY to test some commands, but I have not worked with it yet;
I have Ubuntu 9.04 on my "Virtual Machine" and my host OS is Win.XP and I have installed "OpenSSH server" and "PuTTY" from the ubuntu repository,
Is this action rational? I mean I want to connect from PuTTY on linux(on VM) to the SSH Server on linux?
(Meanwhile, I have no work with the host Windows and just wanna test it on the linux!)
where should I see the "Host Name/Ip Address" of the SSH Server to enter in the PuTTy's dialog? In windows we can use "ipconfig" command to see the IP Addresses, but I don't know what is the command in linx for this purpose?
