If no, All the schema we will implement should be mentioned in slapd.conf file?

Software :: Install Openldap 2.4.21 In Redhat Enterprise 5 Version?

Mar 10, 2010

I am trying to install openldap 2.4.21 in redhat enterprise 5 version and I am having some issues. When I ran the configure command, I had the following error.

checking for Berkeley DB major version in db.h... 4
checking for Berkeley DB minor version in db.h... 3
checking if Berkeley DB version supported by BDB/HDB backends... no
configure: error: BerkeleyDB version incompatible with BDB/HDB backends

So I downloaded and installed Berkeley DB 4.8.26 version. But my problem is how do I make openldap to point to this.

General :: Can't Access A RedHat Fileserver From XP PC

Oct 26, 2009

I'm new here and I didn't really use linux before. My problem is, there was an admin at the company. I rename it's username and add a new password to it. The Linux fileserver uses Samba. I have an XP PC, which was the admin's mentioned above, and it can't access to the fileserver since I rename the admin's username and password. Can it be the problem, that I did it in graphic mode, not in console? I did it with smbpasswd too, but it isn't working. Do I need to write something in the smb.conf file or something? If I miss to write down something important please ask, but don't swear at me.

General :: [Redhat 5.5] Unable To Access Network From An Oracle-started Process?

Jun 9, 2011

We have a Oracle 11.2 database running on Red Hat 5.5. The database have a scheduled job to fetch some files from another server using ftp, and herein lies the problem.he job runs a pl/sql that runs the function in an (by us compiled) external libraryThe ftp-functionality itself is done by using libncftp and it's API's.The process starts correctly, but then trying to login to the actual ftp host, ncftp only reports "Unknown username/password" (which is not the case).I have the exact same code in an executable and when run from an interactive shell, it works fine.So the only thing I can come up with, is there are differences when the process is started by Oracle, rather then being ordinary" process. And I am stuck. If there are any environment variables, paths etc missing when running the extproc-process, how do I find out which?Because the real problem is NOT wrong user or password.

Red Hat :: Obtain Redhat "Directory Server Console" For Windows?

Aug 13, 2010

I'm trying to setup a test LDAP server (redhat directory server) using centos. As per the redhat administration guide it states that the Directory Server Console is supported on several different platforms such as Windows XP, server 2003 and 2008. But I can't find the windows installer anywhere.

Is the installer a closed program and not freely distributed? I tried searching on google and I've seen other topics asking for it but ended without an answer. The reason why I need this is because the ldap server I'm setting up does not have a gui installed. I would like to be able to manage and configure it remotely on a windows machine if possible.

Added Note: I could probably install the console on another linux system with a gui and administer from there but I hope there is a much easier way using windows.

Security :: Controlling User Access On Redhat Enterprise?

Mar 15, 2011

Im am working on a system which runs on RedHat Enterprise I have been asked by superiors to see if the following is possible. (sudoers file config change i guess)

Example
User1 has root access
user2 has root access, but must not be able to access ctmag (user account)

I know the obvious here is that if user2 can switch to root then it won't work. But i just need to prevent user2 from su - ctmag. A password is set on the account ctmag, but as user2 has root access it switches without a password prompt

Is there anyway i can prevent user2 from switching to ctmag but still have access to root?

OpenSUSE Install :: Access Fsck Through Serial Console?

Dec 22, 2009

I am looking for a solution to administer my remote server running SUSE LINUX 10.1 (X86-64) - Kernel 2.6.16.13-4-smp. I have made changes to server and is able to see the boot process and also able to login to system through serial console.

My question, will I be able to administer the server through serial console incase if my root partition is corrupted and system has gone to maintenance shell(or root shell).

Also is there way to go directly to maintenance shell from grub(not talking about single user mode). I want to go maintenance shell where / partition is not mounted.

Debian :: Remote Network Access To Single-user Console

Jul 11, 2010

When I start an upgrade or dist-upgrade from single-user mode, and walk away for a long time, I will have found that some packages insist on prompting for answers to questions midway through. That requires me to physically check the console periodically, and that becomes less practical for long upgrades. Is there a way for me to somehow remote into that console and answer any prompts that would popup? By "way" I mean not involving KVM switches or other hardware other than the LAN setup I have now (i.e., I am able to ssh into the machine being updated from another machine, but not when the machine is in single-user mode).

BTW, the reason I am using single-user mode is that, in the past, I have had problems with upgrading packages like GNOME when I am logged into the GNOME Desktop.

General :: Redhat Vs Suse On The Job?

Mar 31, 2011

I'm a Windows SysAdmin and we currently have a half dozen CentOS 5.5 machines at my current job. I also use Fedora 14 at home. I've been trying to get up to speed on Linux and feel like sticking with the RedHat derivatives as opposed to trying a new distro whenever something new comes out has really helped me.

I have a job interview coming up and it sounds like something I'd really like. They have an upgrade of VMWare from 3.5 to 4.1 in the works and virtualization is really my focus right now. Anyway the guy told me that they use SUSE and he really doesn't like RedHat. I don't remember how he described it, but he made it sound like it was too specialized and SUSE is more open.

This is the job description. Experience with MS Windows 2000, 2003 and 2008, Active Directory Architecture, deployment and group policies Red Hat and Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise server (SLES), OES NetWare (On Linux).

Experience with multiple virtualization products including VMware ESX and VMware desktop. Experience with tools used to analyze and perform bulk changes to LDAP directory content including Apache LDAP studio and MS Access. Experience with XML, LDIF, VB script., SSL and secure communications, SLP, DDNS, YAST, RPM, PAM., CRON, Sniffer Pro and Wire Shark . Is going into a SUSE environment going to screw up all the good linux mojo I have going on? I like working in Fedora/CentOS now. Is there a real difference?
