Jan 11, 2010So I was wondering if being relatively new to Ubuntu, and having no experience at all with servers, I would be able to set up a server (one server and a couple of computers), to use in a hostel. I took a good look at the Ubuntu Documentation Section:URl..and most of the things I don't even know what they are for (MySQU, Samba, Apache2).
Basically I need to have a couple of computers with internet access, allowing me to control their use, file sharing to a main HD in the server, also I would like to use the server computer as my personal desktop (office, internet, etc.) and that's about it..The question is, if I were to follow that guide, do you think I can set it up?Also, do you know a guide in which the hardware components are mentioned? Because I googled and the amount of trash coming out, mostly outdated, is extremely annoying.

Aug 6, 2010so i cannot install anything because update-info-dir file is missing from /var/lib/dpkg/info/ .. I've searched for the last day and a half for a way to fix this, but nothing. can't even update dpkg because of this. so how do I bypass or fix this so I can install stuff (this is a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 lts Lucid Lynx).

Aug 21, 2010From the terminal I got this message: The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: libqt4-opengl freemat freemat-help libgfortran3 libsdl-ttf2.0-0 libmikmod2 libqt4-svg libblas3gf libamd2.2.0 libsdl-mixer1.2 libumfpack5.4.0 freemat-data libsmpeg0 Ok, what I really don't understand is that why is it that Freemat, my most important software, is listed as "no longer required"? Of course if I use sudo apt-get autoremove will remove all the mentioned packages including Freemat.

Feb 8, 2010From a linux host, how can I find information about a lun that has been exported. For example, if I have 3 100G luns available via FC. How can I tell which is which? I've looked at fdisk, /proc/scsi/scsi, /sys, lscsi, sg3_utils. So If I want to destroy one of these luns, how can I find out how to identify it on the san device? 2.6 kernel. I did the yum install and I found this helpful link...However when I try to change the dir it puts the info into, it keeps giveing me an error cannot cd to the directory. I changed the /etc/webalizer.conf file as described in the above article and try to run it manually same results. /etc/cron.daily/00webalizer Error: Can't change directory to /home/webalizer/When I put the original dir back in the path it writes to /var/www not /var/www/output like it should. I even tried a local /var/wwww/output dir. Then I tried a link to /home/webalizer/output (a dir I created) and same results.(with orginal .cfg in place)I go to my www page remote or on the local network I get page not found errors.In summary.1. Why wont the /etc/webalizer.cf file allow me to change the location of the files?2. How do I display the www page to view the data?3. How can I secure the www page so only I can view the data.
