I have been using modinfo to know what drivers installed on my Linux Box.
Like:

modinfo mp2tsas => LSI SAS
Any specific command/tool which can collect all modules and drivers installed on my Linux?
We have driversquery software in Windows which list all the hardware and storage drivers. I am aware of lsmod and modinfo command but is there any customized tool which on run should display the overall drivers (both storage and hardware) on linux Machine.

I have a problem with ldap client authentication in ubuntu. I am using rhel5 as openldap server and I configured ubuntu as client, when I am trying to login the following message is coming."su: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info. Sorry"
But when I do search through "ldapsearch" command output is coming without any errors, Can anybody explain what would be problem.
so i cannot install anything because update-info-dir file is missing from /var/lib/dpkg/info/ .. I've searched for the last day and a half for a way to fix this, but nothing. can't even update dpkg because of this. so how do I bypass or fix this so I can install stuff (this is a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 lts Lucid Lynx).

This is gaurav. I have lost/override the old configuration (config file) while compiling the new kernel resulting in my internet connection failure. I have tried re-booting the pc, the only escape (somewhat weired) i would thought of, still it does not restore the original.

My wifes computer, IBM desktop, running XP, was hit by malware. I managed to save the data and tarred it and copied to a USB memory stick using my Linux box Ubu 9.1). I checked and saw it had been truly saved. Two days later I put stick in USB port and it was not recognized (usually any hot plugable device shows up immediately on desktop). I have tried plugging it into a windows machine and nothing was found. We are both very desperate at this apparent loss but because something similar happened with an Iomega zip disk.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am on Debian/Tor/Vidalia environment and I am thoroughly confused as to what the Apt-get engine does. To put it simply, I landed on Debian because I heard that Torrent-downloading stuff via an external application such as U Torrents does no longer guarantee anonymity, even with a Tor proxy server. So I got into the Amnesia CD stuff, after burning the ISO image on CD. I was hoping then to be able to install U Torrents on Debian and carry out the U Torrents downloads from within the Debian shield.
I did download U Torrents but I was unable to install it from the .exe file. Then I heard that programs can be installed in Debian only via a special APT-get engine. My understanding was that by running the" APT-get" engine in the CMD( Terminal) screen, I'd be able to access the softwares I wanted to install, such as U Torrents..
Unfortunately, when I run the " Apt-get" engine with the script " Apt-get Install + software name, " I get a " no packages found" answer. I searched for Bit Torrents, Azureus, U Torrents and a host of other common softwares, to no avail.. None is there. I even got to the APT-get.org site. THere I did find hundreds of repositories and packages , but I haven't the slightest clue as to what they contain. This database is not searchable by software name, so I don't know if and where my software is there.
By mistake i deleted imp folder which as certain imp files created, so i want to reterive it ? is it possible by using any specific linux commands only

Chrome works fine, but flash has been giving me a lot of problems. I've downloaded the yum file from the Adobe website, and unpacked it using the GUI, yet it still didn't work. So I started googling how to use yum. So I followed some directions and tried doing

As you can see, its still trying to goto the adobe website, even when I type in a completely different command from getting flash. So I guess I have 2 questions:
1) How can I "restore defaults" on yum so that I can actually use it
2) How can I install flash?

I got requirement to find the difference between two strings and write the difference to new file by comparing the substrings separted by commas
Below mentioned is an example of requirement
String1 --> ABC,DEF,GHI,JKL
String2 --> MNO,ABC,XYZ,DEF
In String1 and String2 the substrings are separted by commas. The substrings which are common between String1 and String2 are ABC,DEF this common substrings has to be written to a file say common.txt ( having the text ABC,DEF). And the substrings GHI,JKL in String1 which are not present in String2 has to be written to another file say String1Extra.txt (having the text GHI,JKL). In the same way the substrings MNO,XYZ from String2 which are not present in String1 has to be written to another file say String2Extras.txt(having the text MNO,XYZ) .
I have 2 hard disks and all together I created 6 partion in it.On primary I installed Windows XP and REST 5 partions were having data.From Second hard disk ,I copied all the first partion data to another partions and installed Red Hat 7.It took only 3 GB all togethr for Linux Distribution.Now I need to fetch my Windows data back.I logged from the Windows XP disk and I could see the second disk through disk managemnt .But it was showing "Unhelathy".But I will not be able to retrive the data.So can Anyone give soln for this.

I have been able to find the relevant files but I can't see how to copy or print them.
I would like to put them onto CD and transfer them to my laptop which is running Windows 7.

From a linux host, how can I find information about a lun that has been exported. For example, if I have 3 100G luns available via FC. How can I tell which is which? I've looked at fdisk, /proc/scsi/scsi, /sys, lscsi, sg3_utils. So If I want to destroy one of these luns, how can I find out how to identify it on the san device? 2.6 kernel. Not looking for something distro specific, but i have a mix of rhel5 and sles.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Intel Pentium dual core T4300 2.10ghz processor in dell inspiron laptop. i had windows vista home basic by default and then i got ubuntu 9.04 installed on it from one of my friend. i was using ubuntu mostly (and upgraded it to ubuntu 9.10)as i never liked vista. so i installed windows 7 over windows vista. now vista is gone and windows 7 is working. but i no more see the boot options and cant access ubuntu at all. the boot options (F12) does not show linux partition at all. however the linux partition is seen in device manager. but its only seen.
how do i retrieve my old boot options including linux os? which asks me which os to boot from.
