View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old program that kind of depends on older dynamic libraries. They tend to get upgraded easily with distro's updates. I figured that there would be a script with using ldd that would gather the libs needed and create one bigger, statically linked application that wouldn't break so easily. If I could do this, a lot of older KDE libraries could be removed from my system and easen my life.
My distribution of choice is gentoo, but I'm looking for a general solution that doesn't depend on rebuilding anything. If it runs with libs on their path, I'm sure it can be made run with libs somewhere else!
Any good tutorial on sharing dynamically allocated objects across shared libraries in the same process and between shared libaries and main(). In particular, I need to know what creation and destruction sequences are valid when libraries are being loaded and unloaded. For example, is it valid to allocate an object from inside a shared library procedure, and then delete that pointer from a different module, especially in the case where the allocating module has already been unloaded.
I imagine there might be all kinds of problems with this. Although my preliminary tests seem to work most of the time, I get crashes from time to time, but I'm not sure if they're caused by memory management or by threading issues. I've been restructuring my code to use a global context object to manage object creation and destruction from main(), but I'd like to find a clear exposition of the specific issues I'm dealing with before I go too much further.

I mean, I can see libtiff for example, i can found a libtiff.so.5 on my /usr/lib, but doesn't store a libtiff.so.4 or 3 just for binary applications or games. For this example, I need libtiff.so.4 for uplink.

create an array of pointers to point to the first few characters and then use that pointer to print the rest of the string.But when i print using the pointer i get GARBAGE values! shudn't std::cout<<ptr[w] print the string following the char it is pointing to? why do i get garbage values?

I was wondering if it is possible to do the following: suppose there is a www and it contains 3 pages: aboutus.php, index.php and contactus.php within each side there are 3 other pages you could say 1*.php,2*.php,3*.php, where * stands for any of {aboutus,index,contactus}. I was wondering how, if it is possible, to implement the following mechanism.
If users requires 2a.php go to aboutus/2aboutus.php or if it is 1i.php then go to index/1index.php. What this does it translates addresses that user requires into the original links that are stored at the server. Then, if I want to change the translation I just change the naming convention say 22a.php or 11i.php and updates my mapping mechanism. Is it possible to implement it with mod_proxy_http ? so that you could dynamically (at once, without restarting apache and without any delays) change this mapping to whatever you want ? maybe there is another module I should look at ? Or shall I implement it myself?
I have comcast xfinity high speed dsl, with a dual boot win2000/opensuse 10.3 system. I'm connected in win2000, but I can't quite figure out how to configure comcast's dynamic ip address' in opensuse 10.3, either on command line, or in KDE with YAST (scream on the latter attempt).

I figured out how to make transparent but not "dynamic". I have seen people mentioned you need to enable compositing but I am unsure how to do that in Gnome. I recall from a prior use of XFCE this was an option in that WM but I can't find in Gnome or compiz (if needed)
I am running Gnome on Debian Squeeze and have installed compiz. Any direction would be appreciated. I find reading web tutorials through the terminal to be very helpful so I can practice the command line or even practice commands while watching a good video .

install a newly compiled linker as the default linker on my VM running Ubuntu. I compiled and installed a new custom kernel on my VM (linux-2.6.36) and also compiled (not install) a custom gnu c library (glibc-2.11.2) on the newly installed custom kernel. I am able to run a simple helloworld.c program to verify that my program worked successfully using the newly build dynamic linker in the /elf directory.
I want to replace the real linker inside /lib with the new linker that I compiled. I tried to make the soft link named ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 that originally points to the real linker file ld-2.11.1.so, point to my newly compiled linker, but my VM crashed. I also tried moving the compiled linker and wrote it over the original linker, and the VM crashed. None of the commands worked after that as they could not access any of the shared libraries and I received this error '/bin/bash: No such file or directory'. I also tried to change the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to my linker and did not have any luck there either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just downloaded Slack- 13.37 using Filezilla..I downloaded from an FTP server the entire directory of Slackware - Current (32 Bits) ..There were some problems encountered:1. When I selected the entire folder in FZ , the Queue size was reported as 4 GB.2. I started downloading and after significant time , still the Queue size was reported as around 3.8 GB..I was perplexed as I have a decent bandwidth and it cannot be. To dispel my doubt , I saw the properties of the Slackware directory in which it was downloading. It showed 1.9 GB.. Is the Q size not dynamic? (Total size - Downloaded size)

I was on the edge of my seat as my HDD had only roughly about 4 GB ...So , the Q size was kinda misleading..In a haste , I thought I would remove 2 big installations and wiped off Openoffice as anyway I was planning to go in for libre...I moved some other files to a different partition to ensure additional space4. What can you do when your linux system "can't find" dynamically linked libraries that are indeed installed in their correct locations? Case in point, I'm trying to run a program called 'ucanvcam':

I'll be using a specific example, but really this generalizes to pretty much any binary on linux that can't seem to find its' dependent libraries. So, I have a program that won't run because of missing libraries:

ldd sheds some light on the issue:

I have a library that I have ported from Windows, and is not a derivative work of Linux. The library is subject to copyright law, and I can't disclose the source. I would like to link a GPL application to this library, and want to know if the linking would cause the library to be GPL. If the library becomes GPL, is there some other way (kernel loadable module?) that I can keep my library from becoming a work of GPL?

I've also done the make test and it passes, printing out Hello World, from Lua 5.1. However, I can't link to the lua libraries in CodeBlocks. I know where lualib.a is (usr/local/lib) which I set in my Search Directories for the linker. I still get error messages like...
undefined reference to lua_isstring
P.S. I had this running on Windows via Visual Studio.
