While trying to install a package using gpk-application ("Add/Remove Software" under System Tools), I accidentally checked the "Do not show this message again" checkbox, and now gpk-application does not list the package dependencies anymore.
I tried to go back to listing the dependencies, however, I could not find a way to do it. How do I revert to the default behavior, i.e., having gpk-application listing the dependencies again?

I did a compile and checkinstall of a Debian package (and then deleted the temporary directory tree I compiled in), and had to redo the compile and checkinstall since I screwed up on the dependencies (I think it's item #10) on the checkinstall "menu".
Looking for a quick and dirty shortcut, I was wondering where the post-install dependencies for the packages are stored. Is it in /var/lib/dpkg/status ?
If not, where is the dependency information for installed packages stored?

Are there any quick and easy ways to find all of the dependencies required for a package to be installed, so that we dont have to spent a lot of time searching for each package or downloading them individually?

I was working on my flash drive install of Ubuntu, when I squashfsed my /usr. Long story short, I some how ended up with a working /usr, but with a few packages marked as installed, but not having its components installed (emacs). When I try to remove emacs (emacs23-nox), it gives me numerous errors about files (all relating to emacs) not existing (all in /usr). Thus my questions are as follows:
1) Is there a way to force the removal without it caring about missing packages?
-OR-
2) Is there a way to reload which packages are installed by checking which files exist, etc?
-OR-
3) Should I just nuke and re-install?

dpkg -i package.deb
Doesn't install package if it has not-installed dependencies.
What parameters do I miss to install that package with its dependencies from repository?

I am working on a project that sets up packages on the cloud.
For example, If i want to setup Drupal, i need seperate machines to maintain separate tasks, like mysql in one machine(cloud instance/node 1), apache server in another machine(cloud instance/node 2), etc.
So if drupal.rpm has dependencies apache.rpm(has deps too) and mysql.rpm(has deps too)
Is it possible in rpm package manager(yum) to handle such customizations & above requirement?

Is there an easier way (without using a package manager) to upgrade programs? For example, I just want to upgrade Amarok. In order to do this, I've had to upgrade every one of it's dependencies because they've all had minor upgrades from the versions I already have installed.
Is there an easier way to compile programs and their dependencies manually or are package managers the only way?

When I run updates I get a long list of packages for which it says 'The following package updates will NOT be installed'. I'm wondering why not?
The only thing I can think of is I followed the guide in a sticky thread in the Multimedia forum to get codecs installed, and part of that is to change the vendor of some Opensuse packages to packman.
Code:
~> sudo zypper up
Retrieving repository 'openSUSE-11.2-Update' metadata [done]
Building repository 'openSUSE-11.2-Update' cache [done]
Retrieving repository 'packman' metadata [done]
Building repository 'packman' cache [done]

I have downloaded d4x download manager program but I do not know its dpendencies. I tried to install the single deb file with "Gdebi Package installer" but it showed an error of dependency. I downloaded that file too which itself could not be installed due to the same problem. The method of one by one file downloading was exhausting. Is there any program that accepts "d4x_2.5.7.1-5_amd64.deb" as input and givres me a full list of dependencies that must be saitisfied proior to installing the program with a single click? I want to give that list to a download manager.

The question is how can I get full list of dependencies? I mean full list, not only 1lvl from yum deplist "package name" Full list you can see when you do yum install "packages name"
I need this list to my script. So using "yum install" is a little dirty ;/

I understand there is a file that stores the repositories' information, but I can't find it!Is there a way I can create a list of what applications have been installed? The idea is that if I am running a backup, finding a way to save the repository list and applications installed so if I am upgrading, or fixing a borked system by re-installing Fedora, I could copy the repo list back, and run the applications list like ode:yum install <cat apps.txt?> and get all of the applications I've installed via Yum without having to remember them all?Is there anything else, outside of /home, I should look at backing up? SELinux settings?

I am trying to install tilp, a program for the link between a computer and a Texas Instruments calculator. I have downloaded all the packages to a local directory. I tried telling yum to install all the packages at the same time, though, the dependencies still fail to resolve (though they are all in the directory). I don't know if it would be safe to force install without the dependencies (even though I would install them later).

if I open a terminal and hit [TAB] [TAB] it will display "Display all 2583 possibilities? (y or n) ". If I press y is there a way to capture the output and write it to a file? Not like it is a command so I can't just use a redirect to a file? If not I guess I could just do an ls on all locations of $PATH and capture that to a file.

I have a system that will not boot as /usr has been destroyed and I would like to get a list of installed packages before re-installing. I know that it's possible to get this using dpkg or apt, but I cannot run those.
Where in the filesystem is this information stored and what's the best way to get a list of installed apps from the files?
