General :: Unable To Install Software From Software Center In Ubuntu 10.04
May 26, 2010
i tried to install a software (Awn)from ubuntu 10.04's software center ,when i click to install button ,it doesnt effect. The software cannot be installed. And i am connected to internet via same compute.it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society
I get a very strange behavior when I click on install for any package in the software center --- the popup window to authenticate appears for a few milliseconds, jitters horizontally, and then disappears. Thus, I am unable to authenticate any installation and of course installation is not possible.
I suspect that I have by mistake used chown or chmod (or both) wrongly; but, I have no idea on how to fix this.
I was able to use Synaptic Package Manager to reinstall the software center; but this had no effect --- still can not install any package given in the software center!
Okay so I have now run into my first problem I cant seem to find a solution to.
I have downloaded a .deb file and discovered that you can run them through Ubuntu Software Center to avoid using the terminal. It seems to me that you can even do this if the program is not a part of the Software Center listed programs.
So this is what I did and it now says that my program has been installed.
I am trying to install several of the packages listed in the repositories for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS from the Ubuntu SoftwarecCenter. I get the error message: "The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources."
How can this be...they are in the repository. Doesn't that mean they are authenticated?
By the way, under sources, I selected "Server for the United States".
i am unable to downlaod anything in the software center and here are the error messages There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks. when i click on more info i get this
After upgrading to 10.10, I have been unable to use the software center to install. Every time I click 'install', the install progress bar just hangs, reading 'Waiting for apt-get to exit'. The same thing happens when attempting to install upgrades via Update Manager.
I can however update via Synaptic and using 'apt-get upgrade' in the terminal.
I am not really new to ubuntu since I had it for time now I still don't know a lot about it since I was not really interested in exploring it and probably won't understand some of the terms used so go easy on me. Now, since I have upgraded to ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) (maybe even earlier since I haven't been using it much) I have not been able to open Software Center.
Trying to openit through terminal gave me the following result: Code: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/software-center", line 90, in <module> app = SoftwareCenterApp(datadir, xapian_base_path, options, args) File "/usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/app.py", line 145, in __init__ self.history = get_apt_history() ..... raise ValueError, 'unknown locale: %s' % localename ValueError: unknown locale: sr_RS

I can't open ubuntu software center and some other applications like rhythmbox music player.when i tried to launch ubuntu software center from terminal says "andreah@andreah-laptop:~$ software-center
I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".
first of all i am a super noob to Ubuntu and i have always used windows as my OS but for some reason i try to install the app be it games or any other program it wont install nothing pops up to have me inter my password to start installing or anything
Is it possible to configure Ubuntu to allow a user to only install from the software center and not gain any other admin privileges? I have enabled dpkg, apt-get and synaptic through visudo and I can install from there but the software center still prompts for my admin user's password. Just to be clear: it is not prompting me for the user's sudo password but for the password of the account that was created during installation.
I basically want to let users install anything they like through the package managers but not do any other root stuff (like sudo rm -rf /).
I have install the Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop . i need some help with partitioning the HDD . coz i didn't partition HDD from beginning it's now 1 partition .
- Also i need help with "How to install program without using 'Ubuntu Software Center' ".
- And is there any way to sync my PDA WM6.5 to Ubuntu .
- And if some one have any book for learning the basic for Ubuntu i need it .
When I try to install an application using the software center it simply does nothing when I click install. The following is the output in terminal when I click install -
Code: jeff@sager-ubuntu:~$ software-center WARNING:root:No styling hints for Raleigh were found... using Human hints .....

So apparently I've got a broken dependency and Ubuntu can't handle it itself. This is the error message I get when it fails to repair. How can I go about fixing this? I can't use the software center until the error is cleared.... :[
I can get update manager and some application from the software center to work, but several of them show a "no Internet connection" pop-up followed by "check your Internet connection". If it's any help some of the application that will not install, I tried first to install from playdeb. In addition, playdeb seemed to have issues when I tried to setup installation for it. I can't even get application to install from their website either.
I've just upgraded to 11.04 and loving it but, now I can't add any apps through Ubuntu Software Center. I select an app and then click Install. After that, I get this:
An unhandable error occured There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon. The software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks.
Then this window pops up:
System program problem detected Do you want to report the problem now?
Now, when I choose to report the problem, I get another window:
the program "aptd" closed unexpectedly. I tried to use
I can't use my ubuntu software center because whenever i press install on any program the window of authenticating my password appear and disappear suddenly saying that my authentication attemp was not successful so i couldn't enter my password
i just install ubuntu 9.10 in my dell laptop yesterday i go to APPLICATIONS > SOFTWARE RESOURCE CENTER > ANY CATEGORY > ANY APPLICATION WHICH HAS NOT YET BEEN INSTALLED.......... i dont see any install button or link to install the software......
My understanding of UBUNTU is getting better but if someone dosent mindi would appreciate it if you could do a step by step TUT on how to install a program not from the UBUNTU software center.Heres what i want to download - Tux guitar[URL]
im trying to install compiz (ive tried synaptic, apt-get and software center). However, whenever i then go to system -> preference -> appearance ->effects and select anything other than none, it seems to turn of metacity and give me this "Your window manager does not support the show desktop button, or you are not running a window manager." then i click the "no i don't want to keep these settings" and it goes back. The windows have borders with the buttons again. also after installing ccsm i start it from system -> preferences and nothing happens. it just loads a while then stops.
I seem to have caused a problem with the software center in Ubuntu 10.10. When I pick out a piece of software and click 'install' I see it doing something (CPU goes up etc.), but the usual "fill in your password" window doesn't pop up and after say 10 secs the 'install' button in the software center returns to its normal state, i.e. as if I hadn't pressed it yet at all.
I am afraid this is related to a manual install (i.e. through apt-get in a terminal) I did some time ago (I was following an online tutorial to get DVD playback working properly) that probably went wrong (the installation process did get stuck at some point, when it hadn't progressed for a long time (>1 hour) I saw no other option than to quit the terminal). I don't remember exactly what packages I was trying to install though.
What would be the best way to get software center going again?
