General :: Ubuntu Mailser Not Receiving Emails
Aug 2, 2010
I recently setup a mailserver on ubuntu server. I am able to send emails correctly. However, no emails show up when sent to me on this server. I can send emails to myself on the server but not outside email like yahoo.com or gmail or any other emails can reach me. My MX and A record appear to have been set up correctly. My router seems to receive hits when I receive emails. When I check the logs of the router it tells me that there was a remote attempt to send traffic to the router forwarded to the server but I don't see this traffic in any mailbox. When I do pingability.com for my site, I get the following error message:Error There was a problem while talking with the mail server. Got 'Socket Timeout Exception: connect timed out' So somehow, the email traffic seems to get to my router and my router appears to forward it to my server but it does timeout.

One of our postfix servers is for sending/receiving internal emails only. When a user entered a wrong recipient address, it will take almost an hour for the user to get the "Recipient address rejected" email. What can be done to let the user get the "Recipient address rejected" email quickier.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a way a very lightweight MTA without network capabilities just for receiving local administration emails?I know I could restrict access, I was just wondering if there was something more lightweight designed purely for local use.

I have a linux box with two interfaces: eth0 is a builtin and eth1 is a USB-LAN.
There is an IP configured on eth1.
eth0 is up but no IP is configured. This interface is used for sniffing with tcpdump.
The problem is that eth0 frequently stops receiving packets -- my tcpdump captures are empty, and if I look at the interface stats with ifconfig, I can see that no packets are received.
If I bounce the interface (ifconfig eth0 down; ifconfig eth0 up), it starts receiving packets again.

Is there an app out there that will at least mute my speakers or pause my music when I receive a phone call? This would come in handy since I listen to music a bit loud and have a phone that vibrates like a kitten.

We know that, in a network, data transfer time is dependent on capacity of the receiving node. I have two Linux systems A (sender) and B (receiver) connected. I want to simulate congetion in a network, that means I want to increse the time taken to transfer some data. I believe, I can do this if I can reduce the capacity of the receiver node B. That perhaps possible by decreasing the receiving buffer size of B. How can I change the receiving buffer size of this linux system B?

I just installed Slackware 13 with xfce and everything went well (eventually). At first, my wireless didn't work, but then I found /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless.conf. Everything was working, and I was happily surfing and downloading packages. But then one day... It just stopped! I tried to ping google, and it could send packets but not receive them.I'm connecting through an unlocked network in my building, so I guess it's DHCP (thats what i set it up with the first time 'round

I am trying to find a way to tell postfix to forward all emails from
dbsupport@thisdomain.com
and
helpdesk@thisdomain.com
to
be sent to admins@thatdomain.com, but it is not working. I am trying transport maps. The content of my transport file is:
Quote:
helpdesk@thisdomain.com smtp:admins@thatdomain.com
Quote:
dbsupport@thisdomain.com smtp:admins@thatdomain.com
Both [URL] and [URL] are on box1 as an alias in the /etc/alias file like this:
root: helpdesk@thisdomain.com
root: dbsupport@thisdomain.com
how to get this working?

I am coding some scripts for sending via irda to my PDA with another irda that has a triggering on the remote control. OK. What I would need is as follows. With MUTT, I configured it so that I can read my emails with the IMAP and gmail. It is cool. It is working with the last
Code:
mutt --version
mutt: invalid option -- '-'
Mutt 1.5.20 (2009-06-14)
which is annoying with "--" but ok, it works. I would like that a script export the last 10 emails to 10 x TXT files with in it:

Running Postfix 2.6.1 on Slackware 13.0.I noticed that if I send an email with a large attachment(namely more than 500 KB) from another computer using this postfix server as an smtp server, it takes up to an hour to send it.It's almost like postfix is configured to send large emails later with a lower priority. The client computer and postfix server are within a GIGABIT LAN so upload 500 KB isn't an issue.

I have nagios and postfix on the same ubuntu box.Postfix is able to send emails out as root and my user id to my gmail acct, but not as user nagios, which does own the nagios process. I haven't been able to find a way to authorize user nagios to send email (really), but I don't know if this is the underlying issue. Frankly I don't care what acct they originate from as long as they arrive.Currently, all notification emails are being dumped locally into root's mailbox. There are no errors in either the nagios.log or the mail.log.I've added my gmail address to the contacts.cfg, replaced it in the nagios.cfg, and put it every other place I could find root's mailbox mentioned. I've also created an alias for root to my gmail acct with no luck (didn't want to do that fearing I'd receive emails for other system events, but it didn't work anyway)

I am looking to be able to encrypt using OpenPGP certain outgoing emails on my linux server. Currently I have GPG setup with a public key, however encryption outgoing emails prooved to be harded. After a bit of research I have found GNU Anubis which acts as a middlemad between the MUA and the MTA, by encrypting emails before they reach my MTA (Sendmail)However I am having a bit of problem with the configuration of bind and remote-mta, as specified by anubis.I have the sendmail service running on port 25 and I want to leave it there, but I have configured my php.ini SMTP port to 24. So it runs through port 24 first and anubis then forwards the emails via remote-mta to port 25Here are my anubis configs:
bind localhost:24
local-mta /path/to/my/sendmail
remote-mta localhost:25
With all those set, I can't seem to get the basic modication of emails to work. (trying to change a certain subject to something else, just to see that anubis is working). However emails are still working with port 24 as the SMTP port.
