General :: TWM - Bring Xterm To Front On Clicking Anywhere In Window
Jan 12, 2011
What should I put in my .twmrc, so that an xterm window is brought to front (raised) when I click anywhere in the window. Currently, I have to click on the title bar to bring it to front. Presently, I don't have any .twmrc in my Home folder.

I have two windows A and B open unmaximized such that their area overlaps with A in front. If I click window B it gets the focus as I expect, but window A stays on top of it. All my keyboard events get sent to window B correctly, but I need to click on the title bar for it to appear on top of window A. Switching windows using Alt+TAB or taskbar click works as I expect - window B will appear on top. I encountered this in 10.4, not sure if it was there before or I only noticed it now. Is this a bug or some setting somewhere I need to adjust?

Consider I am logged on a machine via SSH.I execute a process having "&" at the end from a shell - I run the process in background. Then I log off from the machine.I am just wondering if it is possible to bring that process to front after I log onto the machine again?I would like to check the output of my running process.Or is there any different approach to have a process running in background and to be able to view its output (i.e. printf)

Start xpdf or gv. Click an xterm to be active and slide it over xpdf/gv. Vertical lines from xpdf/gv under the xterm stick to the xterm window above and make it unreadable.
The problem does NOT show with KDE default settings with display effects on but does show in fvwm, xfce etc, and in KDE without effects.
On a system with a Sandy Bridge integrated graphics (i5-2400) the problem went away by downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.13.0. But it was not enough for another system with 945G which needed downgrading to xf86-video-intel-2.12.0.

I was expecting that notify-OSD bubbles behavior to bring the app displaying the notification, when you click on them. But in my case, when the mouse pointer enters the bubble, it fades out a little, and when I click on it, nothing happens.
Is that normal? Why doesn't a click bring the related app to front?

Let's say I have a program open on another virtual desktop. Is there a way I can bring that program to the current desktop through a script? The following command is the closest I can get:
wmctrl -a program This will switch to the desktop where the program is open and make it the foremost window. However, instead of going to the desktop where the program is, I want to bring the program to the current desktop. There is also this command:
wmctrl -R program The documentation says that this will do what I want, but it just does the same thing as the former command.

The only way I know is to use exit command to come out.
Is there some way to close the Xterm windows using the GUI (the mouse pointer)? Killing a lot of windows would be easier that way.
I am using Tiny Window Manager.

I have strange problem that I couldn't even find on google.
When I play any video in VLC or any other player my video is on top of everything.
For example, if I open a video and play it - everything looks ok. But, if I open another window "above" VLC, video suddenly appears at top and I can't see window opened in front of VLC.
This print-screen will make it more clear.

I have either ubuntu 9.x or 10.z.When the upper panel displayed double graphic postings of the icons (such as clock : clock ), I right clicked and selected remove. I was expecting one of the icons to be removed. Instead, the whole upper panel disappeared. Now I only have a GoogleEarth icon on my desktop main field. On the bottom panel, there are only two null desktop icons and one trash folder icon. How do I bring up a terminal window from this state?

First thing I do is double click the top of the window to enlarge it and when I do that the window enlarges correctly, but it also lunches an app like the double click lags behind to click on an app after the window enlages, im using the 64bit version.
If u dnt knw wat I mean please try it out and tell me how I can fix this, just double click a sized window to make it fullscreen and tell me wat happens.
I also would like to knw if maybe its the fact that im using the 64bit version and that its glitchy.

I've just upgraded Kubuntu from Lucid to Maverick and, as i've added the backports repo, I also upgraded KDE from 4.5.1 to 4.5.2It mostly went fine, but there's one little annoyance i've noticed. I used to be able to drag an mplayer video around the screen by clicking anywhere on it, but since the upgrade that doesn't work any more and I now have to drag the title bar specifically

When I click the window with the left mouse button my window gets dragged, instead that the GUI elements are getting selected.
For example: Opening Firefox and selecting the address field doesn't activate the field to write in. Clicking buttons is impossible. Any action in the window seems like blocked. I'm working this around by holding Shift + Left mouse button; then it's possible to activate the GUI element. Observation: This happened just today when I switched on my computer and seems to affect only me as my user! Logging in as another user doesn't bring up this error. Everything works as usual as possible. The Gnome Panel is not affected. Closing, minimizing/maximizing windows is possible. Clicking anywhere on the window with the right mouse button opens the window options menu, not the expected options. Hovering over a button seems to be recognized as it changes its properties, but clicking still drags the window. Restarting X and restarting Ubuntu doesn't change anything.

I have a problem that I'm not sure how best to debug. About every other time when I boot my system, I get a condition where listing the files in /root locks up that xterm session. This can be cleared by opening another xterm window and killing the listing command. This happens on "ls -a", "find", "tar" and I think "stat" also. The locked up xterm echo's chararcters but does not respond to any control sequences. This is new with FC11.This has only been seen to happen for root. And once a system is booted with this problem it seems to persist until you get it booted without the problem.

I have created which uses Gnome Seed which is in the Ubuntu repositories (although the newest version needs to checked out from Git to allow it to work) and SeedKit which unfortunately isn't in synaptic but needs to be downloaded. The links to get the source for both projects are as follows:
[URL]
The proof of concept is a JavaScript/HTML based frontend of Gnome's Log Viewer. It doesn't replicate 100% of Log Viewers functionality but it produces the basics of it which is to display the contents of Linux log files. The tutorial and link to download the source files are as follows:

For more information about SeedKit and HTML based User Interfaces are in my blog, link for that post is as follows:

Is there a graphical front end for xrandr that also allows you to save your setup so that it automatically sets up the X configuration at boot time thereby simplifying this process. For example, at the moment if i want to use an external monitor on my laptop i have to manually set it up after booting as it defaults to the laptop resolution which is not a big deal but would still be nice to have this happen automatically. I tried putting a script into rc.local to do this but didnt work.I have tried programs such as lxrandr, grandr, arandr which are all good but dont allow you to save your choices so that they are automatically applied at the next boot of the X system.
