General :: Switch CPU To 16 Bits To Access Its Device?
Apr 23, 2010I have a CPLD (EPM240100T) chip that has data type of 16 bits, but the CPU access it using 8 bit. How do I switch the CPU mode (to 16 bits) to access this chip?

General :: Upgrade 32 Bits Programs To 64 Bits On Opensuse 11.2
Jan 5, 2010I'm quite new to linux and I recently (and courageously) upgraded the computer of my work from opensuse 11.0 32bits to opensuse 11.2 64bits.
Well, everything would be quite fine except that I still have some softwares 32 bits that have the 64 bits version available. I know that because, using YaST, I can see by the Installed software section that there are 'choices' of versions for some programs; these versions are 'i586' and 'x86_64', and many of them have the i586 version installed.
So, I wonder if there is some type of auto upgrade all programs which are i586 and have the matching x86_64 avaliable...

Jun 19, 2010when I reformat ubuntu, I use AptonCD to save packages and then restore them without downloading anything over again. what I want to know is: I have the 32 bits ubuntu installed and then I downloaded the 64 bits version. If i reformat to the 64 bits one, would the DVD saved aptoncd packages from the 32 bits work on the 64 bits installation?

May 24, 2011I am on an Eeepc running Ubuntu and I am trying to store the raw data from the Eeepc's inbuilt track pad in a file.To do this with the keyboard (as root) I wentcat /dev/input/event7 > ~/raw-keyboard-out.dataThe result was the whole bunch of random-looking data I was hoping for.Now I want to do this for my mouse, and I tried all of the 'files' in this folder in an analogous operation and none of them seem to stream the input into a file.Does anybody know what the name of the TrackPad/mouse device is called in the /dev folder for an Asus Eeepc 1001p?

Aug 3, 2010We ran out of space on our server hard drive, so I installed 2 x 1GB drives, set them up as a software RAID1 array, copied the contents of /home to it, mounted it as /home for testing. Everything OK, so I unmounted it, deleted the contents of the /home folders (don't worry, we're backed up), then remounted the array. Everything was fine until we rebooted. Now I can't access the array at all; during booting the error "mount: special device /dev/md1 does not exist" comes up twice, and manually trying toe same issue. The relevant line from fstab reads:
/dev/md1 /home ext3 defaults 0 0
However, using webmin shows only md0, the RAID0 device on which the OSD was originally installed. There is no /dev/md1 device file. The mdadm.conf file reads as follows:
# mdadm.conf written out by anaconda
DEVICE partitions
MAILADDR root
ARRAY /dev/md0 level=raid0 num-devices=2 uuid=76fd4050:fb820568:c9bd3a59:ad3e70b0
So it's not listed; I'm assuming this is significant. Am I right, and whether I am or not, what can I do?

Hardware :: Can No Longer Connect To San Device / When San Switch Changed
Aug 6, 2010I have 2 HP DL585 servers with Emulex fibre channel cards that were originally running RHEL 5.3 and 5.2 with kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 connected to a san.I have now patched these to RHEL 5.5, kernel 2.6.194-8.1.el5.The san team have moved the cabling from a standard san switch to a fabric san switch and I have tried to configure multipath.Since the cable move, the servers display 2 lines of:shpchp:shpc_init: cannot reserve mmio region then the boot halts with sda5 device or resource busy.
Returning the cables to the original switch and removing the multipath config allows the servers to boot. What is the shpchp error and is this causing the problem?Why would changing the switch the cable plugs into cause the server to fail to boot with the device busy message?Also, it's not easy to arrange downtime on these servers, so I don't know when I'll next have a chance to reboot them.
Hardware :: Usb Hard Drive / No On/off Switch On The Actual Device?

I have purchased a 1tb external usb hard drive, which came with its own power supply, and the HD device is connected to the power mains 24/7.
However, there is no on/off switch on the actual device, and I dont want to have it permantly connected to my computer, perhaps only for an hour or so everyday.
Could I harm the usb HD by regularly pullling its usb cable from the computer usb port? (ofcourse I would unmount it first).

Now I have to connect this switch using console server which has a cable having rj11 on that server side and other end is db 9 pin female. Now I have to connect switch serial console cable to console server serial console cable using some converter or some cable which can connect both db 9 female connectors. How to do that? I have linux as os and minicom and console utilities.

Mar 14, 2011I am using a Fling KVM switch (by Belkin), to connect 2 computers to my monitor One computer is running XP and the other is running Linux. My wireless switching mechanism has just gone the way of the saints but Belkin has supplied a software solution for this occurrence. There is a small app called Fling (surprising) that allows me to switch from the XP machine to the Linux machine but nothing to switch back to the XP. What I need to know is there a similar app for the Linux computer. (NB I have tried Synergy but have no idea how to set it up - I've been told that synergy might work).
