General :: Video Conferencing - H.323 Client That Can Broadcast Screen?
Nov 4, 2010I'm looking for an application for Linux that will connect to an H.323 video conference and allow the user to send their desktop as a video stream, instead of using the image from a webcam. This is for giving presentations, when it is usually more useful to see the speaker's slides than their face.
All I have found so far is Ekiga, but as far as I can see it doesn't offer this facility. Something free would be nice of course, but paid-for software would also be of interest.
Software :: 3 (or More) Way Video Conferencing?
Jun 23, 2010I've been trying to find a good solution for this, and so far I've not had much luck. Web-based solutions have been laggy and buggy, and any software solutions seem to be windows-only.
I can set up a server on my machine if needed, but opening ports on all the participants is definitely not an option. Windows compatibility isn't necessary, but a nice-to-have.

I'm going to China to teach a class for $work for two weeks and wanted to use something like Skype video chat with my family while over there (I'm in the continental United States) and wanted to know if anyone else out there had tried this or another service? My laptop runs Linux, as well as the computer at my home, so any chat service would need to be Linux friendly

NEW is able to read but not write group files, whereas all the other users in the group can read and write to the group files. The permissions for the group files indicate that all members of group should have write permission -rwxrwxr-x
/etc/group indicates that NEW is a member of GROUP

Don't know if it matters, but both OLD and NEW write to the GROUP files over an internet connection. why NEW can't write to GROUP files? Is there a maximum number of members in a group that I might have exceeded?

The sound works, and the correct device (Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX) is selected in skype, but when I click on "Test" in the video box in Skype, nothing happens. Okay, so I have Skype installed, and it has worked fine in the past. I have been able to chat with my girlfriend on it. We can see each other and both talk. I haven't used it in probably 3 or 4 months. I tried to use it last night and for some reason, I could not see her on the video. It would just show up as a white box where the video should be. She could see me, and we could hear each other. I already had her test with somebody else to check if her video output was okay, and it worked just fine.
I read something that Cairo Dock could somehow be affecting it, but I haven't tested this theory. I can't see how the two could be related.

Apr 16, 2011I have a macbook 2.1 and successfully installedubuntu 10.04 with no problems other than the headphone jac doesn't work and the iSight i had to follow instructions to make it work..however, I cannot use it in skype. It works with cheese and ekiga, but most of the people I chat with are on skype. The driver on skype says "built-in iSight (v4l2) whereas the skype says "built-in iSight (/dev/video0) when I go into the gstreamer-properties, for video it is selected as V4L2 and in the pipeline it reads (v4l2src device="/dev/video0")
When I click test it all works fine, its just that skype doesn't work with the camera. shows I have one, I click test in skype settings and the screen stays black and the green light showing its on turns on....and when I'm in a call i try to make it work and it flashes the green light and doesnt work at all... anyone know a solution or haing the same problem?

Actually when I'm receiving a video call it works, but I cannot initiate a video call.Then I installed libv4l-0 package (which has been installed to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libv4l) and found here URL...) that I have to do something with this Code: Select allLD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype in order to make video calling work. I went thought some results on google but I couldn't find any hint. Probably it's very simple to do with this I cannot get.

Fedora :: Cannot View Flash Video While Skype Chatting
Jun 8, 2011I'm running Fedora 15 64-bit on my laptop, an HP HDX. I installed skype and got flash video to work (the former required that I install some 32 bit libraries, the latter required that I install an experimental 64-bit flash plugin from a tar ball). Now, they both work fine, but they don't work at the same time. In other words, I can have a video/audio chat, or just an audio chat, with someone on skype, but during that chat, I cannot view flash videos, nor can I watch a movie (and I verified that the problem is not just with totem) at the same time. If I'm watching a movie or listening to audio, skype will refuse to make a call.
Furthermore, when I have the sound settings open, and I'm using skype, in the applications tab of the sound settings I get "No application is currently playing or recording audio" which seems highly suspicious. I know this is a fixable problem because skype 64 + flash and/or movies works fine in the most recent iteration of 64bit ubuntu on my laptop, so it is just a matter of settings. I can't find much in the way of pulseaudio or alsa management apps in any of the repositories.

Ubuntu :: Skype Incoming Video Freezes After 30-60 Seconds?
Jan 6, 2010My problem is this: the video that I receive during a video call will freeze after about 30 to 60 seconds. Before that, it works fine. And the outgoing video (that which I send to the contact on the other end of the call) is fine throughout.
If my contact resets their video by turning it off and then on again during the call, it will usually work again for a few seconds. Then, as always, it freezes.
So, I am clearly receiving the signal. But maybe I am overloading something? Is this a graphics card problem?

Feb 24, 2010I have just installed 9.10 64bit Karmic Koala on a Sony VAIO VGN-NR110E.
Everything seems to be working fine out of the box...
I have my camera WORKING. I have tested it through VLC and the video is visible. I have installed Skype, and after setting up the source of the mic and video, SOUND works. Microphone from NX-6000 records sound, I can talk to someone on Skype with no problems.
The only issue i have is that in Skype settings, when I click on the TEST button in the VIDEO menu, the camera blinks, but the screen stays black. When I initiate a conversation, and enable my video, all I see is a white box in the corner, and the same thing shows up on the screen of the person I am speaking with. The sound however works flawlessly.

Aug 14, 2010I have an issue with Skype video similar to this thread [URL] where the test video doesn't work and I only see a white screen from my own webcam. The receivers can see my video and I can see their video, however. Video from my webcam works fine in Cheese and Guvcview. It seemed to start after I loaded the Compiz-config-settings-manager in an effort to fix video tearing (didn't work). Also Kdenlive now crashes every time I try to run a clip, but it was working great before. Even if I remove CompizConfig I still have the problem.

Apr 8, 2011I'm running 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10 on a Macbook 3,1 and using my computer's built in iSight. Up until recently, before making the switch to Skype Beta 2.2, I was having no problems using Skype's video chat feature. However, now I am only able to get video working if I open a terminal window and type in:
"LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype"
Does anyone know of a way to get Skype functioning normally again? The launchers from my menu/panel no longer load the Skype that can use video, and when I tried to change the launch command to what what I use in terminal, it keeps telling me that "there was an error creating the child process for this terminal."
