I'm trying to run Audacity sound editor, which evidently is already installed according to YaST2, but wont show up 'till i run OpenSuse updates. However I don't know anything about these pid files that are locking sys management and obstructing me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 8.04.When I install software from internet then files are downloaded to /var/cache/apt/archives so i keep those debian files in safe place so that I can install that software on another stand-alone computer.
MY question: When we run 'apt-get update' for first time after fresh install it downloads some files. Can i store those files & point to them for a networkless computer which has no internet ? If this is possible it will allow me to 'apt-get check' on stand-alone computer to see if any package is not proper.
Almost every other time I run yum update, I'm getting mirror problems - this is losing all my confidence in Fedora for several reasons: a) it's wasting time - what should be 1-2 minute updates are taking 5-10 minutes and often (like tonight) not even completing b) since it keeps hanging and switiching mirrors during downloads I wonder if the updates are coming thru okay c) the fact this is not being seriously addressed makes me wonder re Fedora quality. Add to that the constant and real annoying kernel errors popping up re network manager and sierra wireless (even when my sprint card is not plugged in).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI must be missing something. I have never had any trouble dl'ing the DVD's or Live CD's. Now they all dl to 99% and then stop. I started with my Win 7 box using Opera, then Seamonkey, then Seamonkey with Metalink agent then on an XP box using Opera then finally Ubuntu w/Firefox through vmware on the Win 7 box. I don't see any similar posts, is Cox just not letting them finish or am I missing some change that allowed me to complete them before & not now?

I have tried many times in vain to install via Make and make install, etc commands
View 5 Replies View RelatedAs I have had some problems using kpagager I've used file asociations to set yast as the default. When I download an rpm the yast icon bounces around for a while and then dies. I assume this means I need another set of yast launch instructions. Suppose I could download to a directory and set it as a repo but would rather just have it launch for rpms as it's quicker. 11.4 KDE 4.6.0

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was able to install opensuse 11.2 wihtout problems from LiveCD. After installation I noticed there is a cross in Network Connection. But in Live CD it's not there. I opended Network Manager and setp up my DSL Pppoe connecton and it's working. Hope this behaviour is normal ?I am little confused regarding software update. In Yast control centre:
1. Software repositories I will not have to touch default is ok ?
2. Just select Online Update and all the updates will be taken care
3. Is there any settings to avoid unnecessary software downloads
We are switching from an uncapped 512kb line to a 4MB line at the office... One catch though. The 4MB line will only be linked to a 30GB account, without the option to top up. I therefore have been asked to put something in place to regulate what the staff download at work. Basically block movie, music and torrent downloads should be sufficient, but they would also like to have a list of where staff have been in case of abuse. I have tried OpenDNS in the past, but the guys took great delight in getting around this, and did it within minutes... I can't enter a proxy setting into their browsers, because they all have local admin rights on their Windows boxes and will just disable that. How do I do this on a server level, so that they can't get around this?

I'm using openSUSE 11.1 64-bit and as far as I can tell I've installed libstdc and libwebkit. I can't find (FileDigests) and (PayloadlsXz). I've searched around and couldn't find much on this.Don't the above errors mean that I do not have those packages installed, or am I just reading this wrong?
Are there any .DEB downloads of Seamonkey out there? All I can find (at the site) are the source and the installer (as a gzip). I couldn't get it to install using the installer (even with the instructions in the readme), and I'd like to avoid compiling from source, because this is for a college course and I don't feel like I have time to worry about compiling.
(The course calls for an HTML editor, and Seamonkey is one of the suggested programs with an HTML editor.) Since I couldn't get the Linux version of Seamonkey to install from its installer (I think the error message was something about being unable to open a screen), the only solution I knew was to run Windows XP in Virtualbox and download/install/run the Windows version of Seamonkey from there.
i can download a 700mb.rar to get almost a gig worth of iso.... so i was wondering if anyone knows a site where they compress the iso to a rar or any other format so that i can save time downloading....

View 2 Replies View RelatedDuring downloads, the top command shows the Firefox process at 100% CPU. Yesterday I tried to download an .iso image. After a few hours the Firefox window would not refresh nor would it respond to input. I tried the wget command. It used negligible CPU time and completed in 28 minutes.
This problem is easy to reproduce because it happens every time I download a file in Firefox. It also happens when I use a fresh profile to run Firefox without any extensions or plugins.
This is Firefox 3.6.12 on Fedora 14.

It works fine on me. These commands create a folder jdk1.6.0_24 in Downloads directory.
My Question is this. If I want to install packages manually.What is the best way to do it. Where should I put artifacts which generates after executing above commands. Another question, If I use sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk where does these downloaded packages are installed. I mean location. I have been using Ubuntu 9.10
I get a page of rssfeed.php in my root dir, whenever i run it once more, there goes a new rssfeed.php.0, rssfeed. php.1...etc, the number increases. but all of them stays empty, is there a tag that avoids this?I am not sure which one to use on the man page, there is -o for output, but none for no output?
