I got some trouble with my Linux. I am using OpenSuse 11.2 64bit and it got a problem with its sound. I got no sound from my system but its produce sound when I play some video from my browser. Is there any application that can maintain and optimize my system?

I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.
System:
OpenSuse 11.2 (it is a pretty fresh install)
OpenSoundSystem 4.2
KDE 4.4 (updated from factory repos)
I have hp pavilion dv6 1386et notebook with windows 7 home premium package. I tried to install suse. But there is something wrong.First I have tried to istall suse 10.3 but installation screen did not appear.Then I tried it with suse 11.2, it was hopeful than 10.3. Installation screen opened and after first rebooting screen have got frozen. So I reboot it manual.Installation only continued with failsave. It has finished, I heard sound of opening system but screen was black.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy sound was working fine except I couldn't get system sounds (notifications) to work. So I decided to install pulseaudio to see if it would fix it. Now I get system sounds and my other sounds, but now in most things (such as firefox and warcraft 3) the sound is choppy. I've tried SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE and a couple other things I've googled but it's not working for me. I'd like to be able to fix it or at least go back to the way it was.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to set up a machine to use as a movie/video viewer. When I connect this machine using an HDMI cable to an HDMI TV, I get video, but no audio. No beeps, no system sounds, no noise of any kind.
I've run the following mixers and set all volume controls to maximum:Gmixer, Kmix, AlsaMixer and pavucontrol.
When playing a video, pavucontrol meter shows signal from the application and shows output signal to the HDMI device, but where that output is going to is beyond me.
Using the Sound setup of Yast, I attempt to play a test sound on the HDMI, nothing.
Built in Audio adapter works fine. I have disabled it in pavucontrol in attempts to get the sound directed to the HDMI output, but, silence is all I get. I've also tried enabling and disabling simultaneous output with no difference in results.
I've tried a few suggestions from other posts with the same issue (creating /etc/asoundrc.conf, modifying /etc/pulse/default.pa), but no joy.
If I boot up that other operating system (starts with a W), all sounds (system & video) show up on the HDMI input with no adjustments needed.
Why must this be so difficult?

From add/remove application system is asking disk 4, but I did not have disk 4, So from where I can download these files and how to install.
After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
I am running Debian Lenny with the default Gnome desktop. When I set up a new user the sound is not available. It says the device in not installed. I have used the Gnome system menu as follows.System, Administration, Users and Groups, then used the add user button and entered the appropriate info. I then went and clicked on the properties button and then the User Privileges section and checked off the "use audio devices" button. Still no sound. When I go to System, Preferences, Sound, Devices, and do the sound tests I get report that device is not installed.
When I am logged in to the user (jon) that I set up when doing the D.Lenny install, the sound on all various media play back works fine.There is one with 1 exception when loged in to this user(jon). I can not get any sound from the system sounds like select check box = toggle .wav, chose menu item = beep, etc. It would be realy nice to know how to repair or configure tis issue as well.under system info, pci devices it lists as follows Multimedia audio controller, Intel Corp 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW. Mother board is a ECS 915P-A2 and I guess about 2007 or so vintage. 1 G mem installed and a P-4 2.66 chip. It has the sound built in to it. It works fine on WinXP.
I'm running Kubuntu 9.10 X64, and am using ALSA for my sound. I have no trouble with sound: VLC, Adobe's Flash plugin, Java, etc. all work properly. When I run the Gnash standalone player, sound does not work at all.

Upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 using standard Update Manager procedure. Now I get a sound (thump) in my speakers for almost every button click. The sound theme in System / Preferences / Sound is "No sounds". I would like to completely disable any "activity" sounds from the OS, but nothing works.

I had some viruses as my program told me and in the end I had to restart my eee pc!Problem is now after it starts and you click on the log me in icon for the netbook it makes the nice hello sound, takes some time and then does the shut down (goodbye) sound. I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I have configured my sound drivers many times. After doing this i am able to listen a sound. But after booting there is necessary to configure them again. So is there a any way for permanent configuration.

I installed 11.3 but haven't been able to get any sound out of it. The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ45-307tx (more specs at link below) [URL] The first thing I tried was I updating the alsa firmware using the konsole command "zypper install alsa-firmware". The firmware updated fine, but still no sound. The next thing I tried was editing a file based on the advice found at the link below. View 9 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that I need to move a moderately complex system from an old system to a new system. The old system is a core 2 duo running on an asus p5k-se (p35 chipset) M/B, Nvidia 8500 gt, 3 x sata II hard disks, 1 x sata dvd, 1 x ide hd, 4GB ram. It runs opensuse 11.1 kde 4 as a desktop system + samba server, apache server, database server + other non-opensuse software. In addition some of the opensuse software is not the default 11.1 versions as later versions were required. The nvidia driver is from the nvidia repo. There are several file systems, some under LVM.
The new system will be a core5 760, asus p7p55d-e M/b (p55 chipset), nvidia 240, 3 x sata II HD, 1 x sata dvd, 4GB ram and possibly 1 x ide HD. This M/B also includes USB 3 & sata III. I have no USB 3 devices but this may eventually change. I have no plans for sata III and believe that it may be better to attach any sata III SSD to the sata II bus.
What I would like to do is to move the hard disks from old system to the new system. What I would like to know is, if the system is left at 11.1, is the system likely to work with the new hardware. If the answer is no, if the system was upgraded to 11.3, would the transfer of the hard disks then work? In order to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.3 using the DVD i believe I should get rid of all non-default repos. I assume that I should also get rid of anything that was installed from them, e.g. the nvidia driver and any software versions installed manually outside RPM. Also is there any default 11.1 software that should be removed either before or after the upgrade to 11.3
I have to recreate a new version of my old thread about my laptop Lenovo Thinkpad EDGE(13) sound trouble. At this point I simply have no clue and tired of trying to fix it. Well after reboot I have no sound in movies, only mp3 has sound, and I can play them via any player. Well to make my video have sound I have to always yast>sound> and manualy setup my Azalia(HDA intel) driver "Fix DMA pointer" to "0" value and my "Use single command to communicate with codecs" to "0" value also, then everything starts to work until next reboot. I don't know why the config is reseted always. I installed new kernel even in hope that my soundcard would work properly, but nothing changed. I reported a bug even, but dunno whether it will be fixed or not, now, if I can write my sound config manually and save it so it is not reseted or anything. Or maybe I can write a script that at autostart will write the desired config for my soundcard, just anything. I'm frustrated at this point, coding as I don't know bash, so I cant do it myself, I need code so I could make a script out of it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I open "sound preferences" from either the sound applet or the preferences menu pulseaudio CPU usage goes right up to 100% and proceeds to lock up the entire computer. pavucontrol, paman, and all the other pulseaudio utils work fine, except for ubuntu's sound preferences. It affects a new account.This is my 10.04 desktop that is affected. I have just the default pulseaudio config.
