I am using ubuntu 9.04 in my desktop.I had a problem not being able to open any windows.But still i can open applications such as terminal,calculator,text editor etc.When i tried to open my computer or to mount any drive, it shows "opening Computer" in panel and then disappears.I am using another OS(Windows XP) in my system.

I am a freelance writer and use article spinning software like "TheBestSpinner" occasionally. Usually I log into windows XP (I have a dual boot) for this. I am however trying to see if it is possible for me to run this software in linux using wine. I am still relatively a newbie in linux as I have been using Mint 10 for only 6 months. I'm am familiar with the command line but generally use the GUI mostly. I installed the software but when I tried to run the .exe file I got an error that said that I had to install mono for windows. I did that too and installed it inside wine. I am now getting an error that I am unable to resolve by myself because google is not helping me. I am posting the output of what I get when I try running it below.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am accustomed to Windows, and I am inexperienced with Linux. What I am trying to do is open NASM in Linux Mint. After several (poorly made) attempts at finding binaries on the hard drive that might open NASM, I have concluded that the problem is my own inexperience.
I have installed NASM using Synaptic in hopes that I might learn x86 assembly, and I am using Linux as that is the OS that is used in the book I am using to teach myself. Unfortunately, as I have stated, I cannot even figure out how to open NASM, and thus I cannot test what I have learned.

I thought I just connect my other windows HD, mount it and then just copy all the folders I need. Unfortunatelly I'm getting cp: cannot create directory blabla - read-only file system. I've got a ~/.Xdefaults that has a specific color theme defined for Xorg, and this works. I've got a ~/.XdefaultsNew that specifies an alternate color theme. Xorg starts and loads ~/.Xdefaults which is correct. After running some applications, I run

This overrides all my X resources to the new defined values (correctly). If I open a new window, the theme is seen correctly. However, all the previously opened windows retain the original theme.Is there a way to force X to "re-theme" all windows it is managing with the currently loaded X resources?
The toolbar is completely empty and when I run apps or open windows, the icons do not show up. The weird thing is when I select 'Panel Properties' and UNSELECT 'expand', then it shows up. But then my toolbar shrinks and doesnt go 100% in width.

One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I did a fresh install of Lucid alongside Vista on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804. When I went into "Personal File Sharing" under System > Preferences, it said that the necessary packages were not installed. Using the documentation at this link: [URL] I went into a terminal, opened shares-admin, and as promised it told me that I didn't have the right software installed, and allowed me to check both NFS and SMB to install. I did so, installed, and at the end, it said everything was successful.
After exiting the dialog, the window asking me to install NFS/SMB appeared again. I selected to install, it disappeared, and then reappeared. It did this repeatedly, until I decided to close it out. I then went back to the guide, and went to add a new share. But the drop down box would not allow me to choose Windows share, only Unix (NFS). How do I enable Windows File sharing? I have used Ubuntu in the past and have got it to share with Windows computers flawlessly. Now, it appears that this essential (for me) functionality is broken.

C - 100GB - NTFS - Windows 7
D - 300GB - NTFS - (for staffs)
H - 100GB - NTFS - unused
Yesterday I installed Ubuntu on tha last one (H), wishing to keep also the others two partitions. Now I can not access the first two, I don't see them any more. In my Disk Usage appears only the linux partition and one "Unallocated Space" of 400GB
Do you think that i have a chance to recover my data from the two partitions that I can't see them? code...
I am stepping into Linux world ...and I have chosen CentOS.
I have installed CentOS 5.5 on a dedicated IBM server successfully. My server has two network cards. I have configured eth0 for lease line internet connection with a live IP (113.xxx.xxx.xxx) and eth1 for local LAN with a static IP (192.168.0.1).
Now,
1. DHCP is working fine and I can access the server from my Windows XP clients.
2. I can access the server with SSH client PuTTY from home ( with the live IP ) and from the local LAN (with static IP 192.168.0.1)
3. I can access my shared server directory 'public' from my XP clients
4. Internet is working on sever and I have updated the server with yum update.
But, I cannot access internet from my XP clients machines.
I read "The Definitive Guide to CentOS" and tweaked the config files in different ways but it did not help. now after two sleepless nights I am here as my last hope.
I admit, I am not aware of every linux terms and commands, but I am getting into it. code...
Is there a way to enable breadcrumbs in the "open file" dialog? Like, if you were to open GIMP go to file--> open--> it would give you a gui to find the file that you're looking for. I have a feeling this will be no simple task, is it an extension of nautilus? or a seperate application?

After installation everything was ok, but all of a sudden the right hand side of the taskbar (system tray) went in towards the left and I can't see the open windows in the task bar. I have gone through the panel settings and everything but the problem remains.
