Has anyone professionally tested Lubuntu vs Mint LXDE and Quelitu with respect to RAM usage. They are all distros using LXDE. It would be nice to have hard numbers in terms of speed.
View 4 RepliesI've got it to the point it will run when you login by adding a line to the /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart file. Added "synergyc 111.111.1.11" and it works perfect. So the main question is, how can I add that line somewhere, somehow to start on boot and not by login?

Lubuntu is nice - but it seems the LXDE version is not as up to date as Fedora LXDE Spin or even Debian squeeze with LXDE installed. I do like Chromium on Lubuntu though... its faster and a nice touch. I am looking for a lightweight 64-bit distribution for my main laptop (it is by no means "old" or "low spec" but I like that Lubuntu starts up in like 2 secs).
LXDE version seems not to be recent (esp in 10.04 version which seems to work more stably for me - with Nvidia drivers etc)64 bit install is currently a pain - requires first install of minimal CD or alternate CD both of which required wired Ethernet, then install of lubuntu from PPA. Native 64-bit support would be nice. Linux Mint LXDE, for example, is also only 32-bit.
I installed lxde, but my wireless internet doesn't work. I can switch back to gnome and it works perfectly. I tried wicd and manually connecting with the command line. Both fail while trying to get an ip.

Who the hell is the retard ass idiot who had to put Chromium as the browser on lubuntu 10.10 anyways?? I've gone over all the steps outlined in every single tutorial I could find online and I don't have any clue where the hell I'm at now....
Still can't get FF4 to even install or load up or anything. No clue how to get rid of this evil Chromium garbage. And I'm getting really pissed and about to take a sledge hammer to the god damn computer! Must have all been designed by arrogant greedy Americans. Matter of fact, forget this.. I'm just going to wipe my HDD... AGAIN and switch to OpenSuse.
The options for installation mention Ubuntu, but not lubuntu, is there some way to install flash for Lubuntu?

What I need is a link to the desktop that will execute the program from the /usr/share/test directory. When I execute the program I need to use "Sudo" in order to run in. So my questions is how would I add a symbolic link the desktop with the approipiate permission to run the executable. Also I need to add a custom icon the desktop.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the color of the (decorated) title bar in LXDE (Mint Linux)? I can't find anything in the system to do this, or advice in google search.
Also when I right click and select "undecorate" I cannot retrieve the title bar unless I close the programme and open it again - is there any way around this?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an older laptop (P4 Compaq Presario 2110; 512mb RAM) on which I installed Lubuntu 10.10. I am using a Buffalo wireless G PCMCIA card (Broadcom 43xx chip set) on the LXDE side which works perfectly. Out of curiosity I installed 'icewm' and 'openbox.' My wireless card shows when I check lspci as "UP." Using wicd, I can see networks, but my router will not resolve an IP address. NetworkManager does nothing.
I have tried using both ifconfig and iwconfig commands with no love.
Is this something inherent with lighter WMs and desktops? Is there a means to allow my router assign an IP and why would it be different for a different WM? Should the IP address be assigned to the computer?
I am having a small problem. I have just switched from windows 7 to Mint 10. Everything is great with the exception of I can't use my dvd and cd drives. I was able to use my dvd drive to install. Now I have been searching for answers all over the net, and still can't find out what to do. When I do a dpkg -l | grep libdvd I get,

I just got Mint 10 DLed and I'm ready to install. I was reading around and saw that a Live USB can be done. Can anyone tell me how to do that? I also wanted to install it to a PC that isn't ready yet, but I a saw one could make a USB drive work like an OS disk. Can anyone help me with that also. All the years I've worked with PCs, I never installed an OS off a flashdrive.

I was disappointed to be prompted for a username and password after booting to the Live CD for mint 10. The user manual did not show this step. I searched for help on this but the two suggestions I found did not work. One told me to use mint as the username with a blank password. The other suggested using user and pass for these two fields.

I have a few questions before I do so. A.) Is all this reversible? B.) It will not affect my current system. Like, if something goes wrong with the install for some reason, it will not affect my current Ubuntu OS, which I will be installing it under. C.) When it asks you to create a hard drive, that is reversible, right? And it's only used when you are using VB? D.) About the hard drive you have to create. I have 2 partitions partitions that I use mainly, my / Linux partition, and OS, which is my Windows NTFS partition. If I create the hard drive on OS, will that mess up the VB?

At first vlc even had the whole audio menu greyed out; I followed this, downloaded the deb and installed it. It seemingly recognized my card, but upon reboot, everything is still silent - though vlc now has the audio section accessible.
If I go under audio preferences and select hardware, no device is present.

Any idea what to do to get audio? Everything else works, I'd hate having to wipe the partition just for this...
I have installed linux Mint as a first time user on an oldish laptop. How can I prevent it defaulting back to the user password screen when I am not using it for a few minutes? I'd be grateful for some pointers. Better still, can I get it t passwordautomatically?..i.e. remember password. I thought I had completed this step but it goes back to the user login which is quite annoying as I have to keep entering the password.
