After installation of Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server 5 on to my desktop computer
i got d below error and it can not booting to next screen, on da sreen displaying dat, code...

I'm running Scientific Linux 5.5 (equivalent to CentOS 5.5), and over the past two weeks, I have had a problem with my root partition filling up, preventing anyone from logging into the server.After searching for large files, and finding none, I was mystified when du told me that the root partition had only 660 MB of disk space used, whilst df showed it full. The problem was this: the /var/crash directory had been filled up by an 8GB crash file. Now, I'm a 'proper' sysadmin and make sure that /var has its own mount point, so the crash should not have touched the root partition at all. Except it did - instead of writing to /var/crash on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol04 which is mounted as /var, it wrote the file to /dev/md0 directly, so when all the file systems were mounted, those files were hidden under the mounted /var.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI write the network driver. Transmission of packets in user space I do through netlink socket`s. In user space there is a handling of packets and their transmission on other device (however, it isn't important).
Problem in that any time, packets through the driver in system, and is reverse, are transferred normally. But then there comes the moment when the kernel crash. If to look in syslog it seems to me that comes deadlock. Also I think that it is related with netlink socket`s.
I can't find the information on that anywhere how correctly to use netlink socket`s in kernel space. Can at you will any a reason into the account of synchronization of sockets and the driver in kernel space?
I can give the driver code if it is necessary.
If I want to just install Linux kernel for educational objects on a fresh computer, should I first install one of Linux distribution and then update it's kernel or I can just install kernel itself?

I wasn't using my laptop for at least a few hours, but when I looked at it, it had seemed to crash. I am hoping to figure out what caused this, and to prevent it from happening again. I believe it has something to do with drm or b43 as that is what I could decipher from the screen. I have checked some logs and found nothing irregular. I do not want this to happen again. I am running kernel 2.6.33.1 with no patches and a custom config tailored to my processor. The reason I am running 2.6.33.1 is because of support for my Wifi.

I recently talked with my friend who said he found a way to get it work.following his instructions I opened Synaptic and checked the package bmcwl-kernel-source to be installed.I went through the process of it all and it said it had install successfully. I restarted the computer and when I tried to enter my operating system I got this error "Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknown - block(8,1)"
I have previous versions of Linux on my computer so I can still get in to those if need be but I don't know how to undo what I did or why it isn't working for that matter. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I am getting this error and how I can fix it?

I keep getting notices that there is some sort of kernel crash.

When I try to use the automatic bug reporting, it fails to do it.
I have attached a screenshot of what happens when it doesn't report it.
Sound disappears as soon as I try to use an application e.g. News Video Fox, CNN, BBC or playing a video disk or cd disk, and a kernel module crash is reported (listed below from logs) After this happens no sound, and the desktop freezes (X11 only Linux is fine). Restarting X obviously do not solve the problem.
It seems that Fedora 12 has sever problems with Intel Sound cards.
I guess it is not really a Kernel developers problem but more the authors for the sound module causing the crash. I already reported it through the popup to "kernel-oops" by clicking on the "black screen" popup reporting the crash on FC12.

Running Karmic on my laptop, I get very occasional kernel panics (suspect it has something to do with the Broadcom WiFi because it only seems to happen with heavy network traffic or HDD access), but just my lucky, this time it Panic'd on me during my recent update -> linux-kernel 2.6.31-20. Now I cannot seem to get rid of that, and of course, I am stuck in the prior version. Granted everything 'works' - but it bothers me. What's the best way to go about tracking down and hashing out a problem like this?
I'm using Squeeze and icedove and iceweasel and I've installed the package linux-image-2.6.36-2.dmz.2-liquorix-686. It works fine on my Dell 1521 Inspiron laptop with only one exception. If I'm surfing the web or checking my mail via a wired internet connection I'm fine... if I'm surfing the web or checking my mail via a wifi connection everything is fine... but if I happen to forget to connect to a wifi connection, and I'm in a situation where a wired connection is not available, I can start iceweasel (it doesn't do anything constructive), but checking my mail with icedove (simply starting the program) crashes my computer.
If I boot up with the 2.6.32-5 kernel, the one that's in the regular debian repository, I can not duplicate the crash. Somewhere I read that the liquorix kernels are optimized for a desktop computer. Is this my problem? Is it something else?
During the crash my screen goes to a text console and I see syslogd messages on the screen -- which I cannot reproduce here.
this is what i did i downloaded the latest stable kernel archive from kernel.org and extracted the archive into the download directory (i don't think that matters though) then i downloaded and installed the ncurses archive (needed for menuconfig) then i opened a terminal and navigated to the directory that was extracted from the archive and issues the floowing commands
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh installation from the demo ISO image of F14 running on an Acer TravelMate 4200. The system is a Dual Boot with win Vista. Windows Vista runs without any problems but when using F14 a kernal crash constantly occurs and it then hard freezes or hangs and the machine needs to be cold booted. There is nothing in particular that I am doing either, the problem happens when the machine is idol or when I am working in various apps.
The F14 system is completely up to date running kernel version 2.6.35.13-91.fc14.i686. The following error below is from the automatic bug reporting tool and I have reported this using the tool:

After CentOS5.3 install to /sdb7 partition (on 2nd HD) and using Ubuntu Grub(on 1st HD mbr) to boot CentOS, I get "memory for crash kernel 0x0 to 0x0 not within permissible range" as soon as CentOS starts. I have 2G of ram. The message is on every boot. I've had several other linuxes on that partition without such an error message. Otherwise the OS starts fine. Is the message of concern/import?

I've got a server with bit of chaos on it. There is similar data on different partitions which I like to mount remotely with samba. So I setup aufs on the server and then share the merged aufs directory (as read only). All seemed fine, and I was able to mount it nicely. However, when I enter the directory in question does the kernel on the mounting puter start misbehaving.
First it freezes for about a minute. Then I get a bunch of oops-looking messages in dmesg and the system eventually locks up totally. This is what it looks like:

I run an old Toshiba Satellite M35x S114 Laptop with Debian Testing, it always runned smoothly - although it IS testing . Since the latest update to kernel 2.6.32 , the X server just freezes. The init goes all the way to gdm, and then a blank screen , no mouse pointer, no way to get out of this screen (not CTRL+ALT+BACSPACE not CTRL+ALT+F1 / F2 ... etc) just a hard reset.
I can boot to the older .30 kernel with absolutely no problem, gdm starts normally login successfull (as I am able to write this on the reffered machine and all).

used to work fine, but yesterday I opened glest and it crashed my computer within 5 seconds. No picture was ever displayed. I downloaded another 3D game called Nogravity (Glest being my only one, I wanted something else to test) and it crashed after a few minutes of play and I had to restart. After all the crashes kerneloops came up with a report.

I did recently notice that I have no direct 3D rendering, it comes up with something like: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT SET)
I do not know whether I used to have it, but I do know that 3D apps used to run perfectly well. (In fact the stability of 3D apps was what converted me from Ubuntu where they crashed every 5 minutes)
I ran glxgears for 5 seconds and it gave me 420 FPS.
I just install F13 yesterday, before that I use F12 and it works well with no problem. The biggest and only problem I have with F13 is wifi network. If I turn on wifi switch before OS start, WIFI LED lights and wireless works. Then I try to turn off switch and turn on again, but the LED doesnt light any more, so wireless is also silent. The bad thing is there are many notifications of kernel crash.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just done a fresh install of 10.10 (full updates) with my new HD 4870, downloaded the last catalyst 11.6 from AMD, I have done the normal procedure of the driver installation, Ubuntu booted correctly, i changed some options in CCC, one of them the "video tearing option" after that X crashed, rebooted the machine, but it stays that way, before the login screen, the X crashes (corrupted image) only reset button restarts the machine.
I removed the installed driver, purged the configurations and started all over using the deb package creation procedure of the driver and also the manual script installation, but it stays the same way, removed again the driver, installed the OSS driver, it logins correctly, tested also with the restricted driver of the Ubuntu repository, it works, but no "video tearing option".
Done a new fresh install of 10.10 (no updates), installed the driver and enabled the "video tearing option", everything is ok, but if I upgrade the kernel the problem returns (if "video tearing option" is enable), i managed to overcome the video tearing option by always enabling VSYNC. After all this, my question is how can I reset CCC settings via command line, the aticonf --initial dont work in this case, CCC is keeping the settings in some config file (I think) that I dont know the location. I want to do some testing, and its annoying to remove, install , reinstall the driver when the X enters this crash loop.
I just updated CentOS 5 to latest kernel 2.6.18-128.2.1, but after reboot the new kernel crashes...If I witch to 2.6.18-92 kernel it works...
