Ubuntu :: Sound Playing Through Both Headphones And Speakers When Headphones Plugged In?

Nov 3, 2010

I'm having an issue with my computer and the headphones. When I plug in the headphones into the headphone jack, the sound plays through the headphones but it also plays through the speakers as well at the same time. I've attempted to play around with the sound settings to see if I can get this issue resolved but I have not been able too. Computer specifications are in my signature.

Ubuntu :: No Sound Through Headphones - 10.04 LTS

Jun 21, 2011

I have done a bit of a search for this and would normally do more but as I am on holiday and have just upgraded my mother in law's machine to 10.04 and only here tomorrow then back home (750Kms away) I am hoping the community can speed things up a little.

Open Pulse Volume Control and headset mic working because input meter shows it, plays audio cause output meter shows it, but the analogue headset headphones give me no sound.

All seems to be working fine but just not getting through to headphones. This is with all apps (Skype, Totem).

Ubuntu :: Sound Comes Out Both Speakers AND Headphones?

Jul 17, 2010

I'm running 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 on an Acer Aspire 3050 laptop with a Realtek HD sound card. When I plug headphones in, the sound comes out of the headphones AND the built-in speakers, instead of the speakers muting as they should.

This happens on both the live CD and the installed OS which i'm running. I've tried every fix I can find on the Internet, including a setting changed in the text-mode ALSA Mixer, installing a package from synaptic, and other fixes for older versions of Ubuntu that can't be done on 10.04.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound On Headphones

Aug 18, 2010

I have installed the Ubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv3-2150ep laptop and I can't get sound on my headphones when I plug them. Besides the laptop speakers don't shutdown either - like it happened with the same OS on my Toshiba Tecra M4."aplay -l" lists my card properly and nothing is muted on "alsamixer". It states that my card is a HDA Intel with chipset Nvidia MCP78 HDMI.

Ubuntu Installation :: Sound From 10.04 To 10.10 - Not Come Out Of The Headphones

Oct 10, 2010

if I put headphones in the jack then it would not cut the speakers and not come out of the headphones. I was able to fix this although I can't remember how and then the sound only came out of the headphones but I fixed this too. Yesterday, I upgraded to Maverick and the sound problems returned although this time the computer simply ignores the headphones and gives out sound through the speakers.

Ubuntu Installation :: No Sound Comes From The Headphones?

Nov 7, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Lenovo-G460 laptop. The audio works fine when the laptop's speakers are used, but headphones don't work.

No sound comes from the headphones, and even the laptop's speakers continue to function when the headphone's jack is inserted.

I've checked on the Windows-7 installation on the machine and everything is fine there.

Is there something that needs to be enabled in Ubuntu to get the headphones to function.

Ubuntu :: Sound From Both HDMI And Headphones?

Jul 5, 2011

I have an HTPC running Ubuntu 11.04 and Boxee. Main sound is through HDMI (nVidia MCP73). I would also like to use the headphone jack on the computer from time to time (kids sleeping, etc). Is this possible? I've browsed around here but haven't found anything definitive. I've monkeyed around with the settings in alsamixer quite a bit and haven't found anything promising.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Use Headphones - No Sound Comes From Them / Get It?

Jul 15, 2011

I can't use my headphone jack.

The laptops speakers work fine (in fact they're clearer and stronger than ever), but I can't use audio equipment that I plug into the audio jack (headphones, speakers, ect.).

I checked System/Sound, looked into the Output tab, and found that there are two devices for sound output displayed: Internal Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI, cause my laptop has an HDMI port), and Internal Audio Analog Speaker (default sound output). No "Headphones" or "3.5mm Jack" or something like that. Even when I have something plugged in the jack.

So when I plug in my headphones, no sound comes from them, and the laptop speakers are still playing. It's like Ubuntu doesn't detect anything plugged into the audio jack at all.

I own an Acer Aspire One 522.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Only Getting Mono Sound In Headphones

Aug 27, 2010

i'm new to ubuntu, this is the second time i've installed it (i had enough of xp). with careful planning and thinking, i managed to get a few things working, like high resolution, java plugin, and flash. but there's a problem i encountered during listening to music: my headphone has only sound in the left speaker. i took a glance at system>preferences>sound, and i tried a couple options, but nothing worked.

some generic information:
- i have an integrated sound card (into an abit kd7 motherboard).
- my headphone is a thomson wpd265, which is working perfectly.
- neither videos, nor .flac audio plays in stereo.

i tried to google the problem, but this thing seems to be a bit rare. i'm sure this problem is related to software, since everything went fine under different circumstances (xp). it turns out that neither the speaker system is working - only the front left works from the five, and 5.1 output laggs.

Ubuntu :: Speakers Works But No Sound On Headphones

Sep 18, 2010

I've just installed ubuntu on my new laptop, an Acer Aspire 5745G. I have a couple of problems. Of course I try to google my problems first, but these efforts were fruitless

Problem 1: Sound works perfectly on the laptop speakers, but when I plug in my headphones, I can't hear anything. The laptop speakers go silent, but there is no sound in the headphones. Very annoying.

Problem 2: I have wireless Internet connection, but the wired network connection doesn't seem to work. There is no activity when I connect the computer to the router.

Problem 3: The button for ejecting the CD-tray isn't the regular type I'm used to with laptops I've used before. On this laptop there is a button just above the numpad keyboard area, that's supposed to eject the cd-tray. This doesn't work, but I can eject it using a command in a terminal.

Ubuntu :: Sound Does Not Come Out Of Headphones No Digital Output?

Sep 29, 2010

Sound comes out of my laptop speakers, but only when hardware is selected as "Analog Stereo". "Digital Stereo" does not function at all. I don't think this is a priority though.

More importantly, my headphones do not have sound unless it is only partway plugged into the headphone jack. However, this does not help as sound is still coming out of my speakers. The instant I plug it all the way in, the sound disappears from both speakers and headphones. I have not tested this with multiple headphones (no access), but these ones work just fine in Windows 7 plugged in all the way.

I have tried an amazing number of things back in '09 when I was running 9.10, but gave up as no one could provide the answer. The threads that are related are:
[URL] (Don't worry about read-only file stuff, that is all resolved) [URL]

I am now on a FRESH install of 10.04 Lucid Lynx, so any changes I made in attempt to fix it is gone.

Looking into alsamixer, I found that there is a headphones column, but no bar. It just says it's on. So headphones don't seem to have their own level of volume that's set too low.

Here are some outputs: lcat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec:

Code:
Codec: Realtek ALC663
Codec: Nvidia MCP78 HDMI
aplay -l:

Ubuntu :: Sound Doesn't Switch To Headphones?

Oct 7, 2010

I have a laptop computer running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. When headphones are inserted into the headphones port, sound continues to come out the internal speakers, and not through the headphones.

This works fine in Windows 7, so the hardware appears to be good. This did work properly when we first installed Ubuntu - it spontaneously stopped working one night, so I'm not sure what we did to make it stop acting normally.

I have run "alsamixer" in the terminal, and toggled every mute and volume bar there is (there are only 4). The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite T135D-S1324.
