Ubuntu :: Increase The Size Of /home Directory?

Jun 21, 2011

I need to increase the size of my /home directory. I am working with Ubuntu(2.6.35-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Sun Sep 19 20:34:50 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I checked the partitons with df -h command...the output is :

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda7 11G 4.3G 6.2G 42% /
none 1001M 560K 1000M 1% /dev
none 1006M 188K 1006M 1% /dev/shm

[Code]....

Clearly /usr has loads of space here...and I dont know /home is mounted with which partiton...I read somewhere that tune2fs command could be useful here...I dont want to experiment and mess up here..

I came across .mozilla folder in every users home directory. I am thinkning, is this machine some kind of GUI that is consuming the ram?I did ps aux | grep gnome and ps aux | grep kde but that came up with nothing.rpm -qa | grep gnome showed lots of gnome python RPM's.I am using ssh to connect to the machine and can not log in locally to see since it is at a remote location. Is there any way of finding out if a GUI is running, if so how would I uninstall it?

OpenSUSE Install :: How To Increase The Root Partition Size

Aug 24, 2010

I would like to increase the size of my root partition on OpenSuse 11.3. Currently, I have 11.3 installed on a dual boot laptop with Windows 7. My partitions look as follows:-

Code:

ash@linux-up5o:~> df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda8 5.7G 3.8G 1.7G 70% /
devtmpfs 1.4G 260K 1.4G 1% /dev

[code]....

As can be observed above, I have used almost 70% of the available partition space with only 1.7 GB remaining. I have plans to install Microsoft Office 2007 on Wine and I know that 1.7 GB is not enough for the installation. I don't mind reducing the size of my Windows partitions in order to increase the size of the root.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.0 - Cannot Increase Ext4 Partition Size

Nov 11, 2010

I have done it quite often. Inserted and run the computer from a live CD so that the hard drive is not mounted an changed the partitions. It worked on the old reiserfs when I wiped the windows partition on my laptop to increase the space, it worked on ext3 partitions. Now I resized the swap partition and reduced the NTFS partition on my desktop - no problem. But it does not increase the ext4 partition. No error message it just does not do it. I tried several times with the suggested maximal setting, with a custom setting, etc. It just does not change size. Just for interest I booted into Suse11.0 live CD and tried from there. There I get the answer cannot resize partition as the file system does not allow resizing. Is something wrong with the system or does the partitioner not work with ext4?

General :: Increase Text Size In 10.04 Due To Having Large Resolution/monitors?

Apr 3, 2010

I have 24" dual monitors with 1920x1080 resolution on both of them. Consequently the text appears so small. I use the following text-intensive applications frequently:

Web browser (Google Chrome)
IDE (Komodo)
Terminal (Gnome Terminal)
Email (Thunderbird)

I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?

Ubuntu :: Can't Increase Partition Size

Oct 11, 2010

I have 4 primary partitions on my hard drive. One of these partitions has been divided into 3 logical partitions with some free space left over. The order is this: "swap", "/", "/home", and about 80GB of unallocated space. I want to incorporate that unallocated space into the home partition. I tried this by booting a live CD and starting GParted but it didn't give me the option to increase the size of my home partition or the primary partition as a whole. The only thing it would let me do is decrease the size of my home partition.
