View 1 Replies View RelatedI have ubuntu server 10.4 installed on an Intel SS4200-E, which I have configured without any RAID. This machine acts as a media server to another PC. The other PC runs Windows 7 Ultimate. I have 3 1TB hard disks connected to it, and the file system on all the 3 are NTFS. I have mounted the hard disks as ntfs. I have made the folders on all the 3 hard disks shareable. I have configured Samba to make the folders on the hard disks "visible".
The ubuntu machine is in a headless configuration (it doesn't have any VGA card where can connect a monitor). I can configured SSH on it, so I can use putty from the Windows machine to logon to the ubuntu machine, but it is text based only. I am able to see all the 3 disks from the Windows machine. I am able to read/write into 2 of the disks. I am able to read, copy and delete from the 3rd disk, but not write new content to it.
Following is the snippet from /etc/fstab:
Code:
/dev/sda3 /media/Media1 ntfs-3g defaults,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0
/dev/sdb1 /media/Media2 ntfs-3g defaults,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0
/dev/sdc1 /media/Media3 ntfs-3g defaults,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0
Following are the lines which I have added to the end of /etc/samba/smb.conf:
Code:
[Media1]
path = /media/Media1
writable = yes
guest ok = yes

i am working on this thread: [URL] if it is better to open a file every time i need to write to it or should i keep a file open the whole time and when i am done with the script, close it and sendmail it out?
Or i just thought of this: i could keep concatenating to a string and just sendmail when done.
am running Centos 5.4 and would like to write a small perl script to collect some info from mysql.
so I went
yum install perl-DBI
yum install perl-DBD-mysql
then
nano perl.pl

#!/bin/perl
use Mysql;

Why can't perl find Mysql.pm? I guess because it doesn't exist as I ran find / -name Mysql.pm, and also could not find it.
shouldn't that file have been created and thus exist after I install perl-DBD-mysql?
I would like to make a shell script that will do the following :- have a web-page using curl- download a picture from the web-page- have a line in the source code of the web page
- catch a string (a link patch) from the line- go to another page of the website from the result of the previous step- repeat all this until there is no match for step 3I know how to :- have the web-page source code using curl (simple, we just have to make "curl- download the picture (as simple as the first step)- have a line in the source code (grep is made for that, isn't it ?)- go to another website from the result of the previous step (it's the same as the first step)But I really don't know how I can do the fourth step of my script.
In facts, I don't know regular expressions and even the shell command that can help me to do this.To be more clear, I would like to store in a variable the string represented by the star (*) in this : <a href="*">Next ></a>

If I use "#!/usr/bin/perl" in the beginning of a perl script the script won't work if the script is at all complicated. Simple scripts like "Hello World" works.
But if I use "#!/usr/bin/perl -w" in the beginning all scripts work?
If I don't use the -w this is whats in the logs:
(2)No such file or directory: exec of '/home/test.net/html/cgi-bin/uh/meny.pl' failed
Premature end of script headers: meny.pl
When I use the -w in the script the error-log shows me this.
meny.pl: Name "main::http_path_cgi" used only once: possible typo at /home/test.net/html/cgi-bin/uh/meny.pl line 24.

I recently reinstalled the B module for perl. Now I found out it didn't just do that, it installed a whole new copy of perl into /usr/local/bin/perl. When I type 'which perl' at the terminal, it says '/usr/local/bin/perl' instead of '/usr/bin/perl'. Normally, this wouldn't bother me. But I installed the one in local/bin without threading support. The one that comes with the system already is build with threading support, which is why I want to switch back to the system perl, and possibly remove the one in /usr/local/bin.
So how do I change it so that the result of 'which perl' returns as '/usr/bin/perl'? And what do I have to do to remove /usr/local/bin/perl?
The reason I need threading support is because I'm designing a file copier that copies several chunks of a file simultaneously to speed up the copying process. Guaranteed a useful script if it works.
i write one program,which can dynamiclly be configure by user,using signal SIGHUP.if i start the program in console,it can works well.i.e,i send HUP signal to the process,it can be catched and load the configure file.but,if the program is started from init shell script,in this way,the ppid of the program is 1,the process can not catch the HUP signal but other signal ,such as USR1,can be catched.i don't know if i express clearly.i am not family with shell script.i don't know if it dues to starting from shell script
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Socket library, written in C++, in which the method used to send data never has the opportunity to handle an errno of SIGPIPE. Thus I thought perhaps I should setup a signal handler to receive the signal, but this too is not being called.Is there something that I am missing or doing that is completely wrong? Below is the relevant code. Note that a SIGPIPE signal is generated when the Server is unable to send data to the Client (e.g. the client has terminated).Server code:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to catch some outputs in two different log files in bash, file simple.log and all.log So far, the script is started like this:
Code:
xterm -e "(./myscript.sh | tee -a simple.log) >& all.log"
What I want is:
- In simple.log, I want all the stdout but WITHOUT errors.
- In all.log I want BOTH stdout and stderr.
So all is ok, and the output becomes:
all.log
Code:
starting copying files
mv: cannot move ... : permission denied
copying completed
simple log
Code:
starting copying files
copying completed
But, in the new xterm, I'm loosing stdout. There is no output.How can I have the files logged as they are but also have the stdout in the xterm.
The following C++ program doesn't catch the exception:
Code:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

But unable to catch the SIGTERM signal if I do shutdown, as man pages says shutdown genrates the SIGTERM and SIGKILL signals, but we cant handle the SIGKILL signal. My code is working fine if I genrate the SIGTERM signal by Kill command, and also for SIGINT signgal genrated from the CTRL+c key.
Here is my code:

* including siginfo_t.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <signal.h>

I start playing with Slackware and I am amazed about its endless possibilities. There is a security advisory for Firefox and 4.0.1 must be installed. Do I need to compile my own FF 4.0.1 build? Or, instead of inventing the wheel, could Slackware's Firefox 4.0.1 package be pulled from somewhere? if my question sounds naive, just trying to get to the point and catch up with security issues.
