Fedora Installation :: Firefox Freezing System In New FC11 Install Not Upgrade
Dec 20, 2009I installed FC11 from installation cds twice and I'm having a problem with Firefox freezing the system. The mouse cursor will move but nothing else is responsive, including mouse buttons and keyboard.I checked the media on every disc and they all check fine.I never had this problem with FC10. I tried upgrading Firefox -- with the necessary dependency upgrades too but without success.I tried to downgrade to FC10 Firefox and ran into a great big hassle with that.

I have Firefox 2.0.0.20 installed, and I want to upgrade to Firefox 3.5.3.
So I downloaded the firefox-3.5.3.tar.bz2 and opened it with the file-roller and extracted it to /tmp.
In the /tmp/firefox directory, I tried running some of the executable files in there, but I'm getting errors:

Problem is, it probably wont show up in my package manager for a long, long time. So I thought I would try to manually install it. I downloaded it and untar'ed the zip fie correctly. Then I copied over my old firefox directory with this one. Didn't work. The old firefox was still getting loaded up. I've done some research and it looks like i have to create a link. I don't know how to do this.

Jan 9, 2010I recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?

But I just noticed yesterday, I have a 64 bit processor, and Im running 32 bit version.
The website says that its less stable (The 64 bit), but is it really worse? I find that my processor gets bogged down very easy in my 32 bit. (No freezes though, I love linux )
How do I upgrade to 64 bit without reinstalling the OS?Is that even possible?

Jun 29, 2011Although I tried to upgrade from Fedora 14 to 15 using Pre-Upgrade, my system does not find Fedora 15 at the end when the Pre-up-grade sequence. On the very last step when Pre upgrade reboots my computer it just goes straight back into Fedora 14. No choices (Fedora 14 or Fedora 15 Upgrade Kernel) are shown.

For learning purposes, I'm planning to migrate from an MBR partition table to GPT.Because of those two changes, I can't just run "dd if=/old/drive of=/new/drive" (well, not without lots more work afterwards). I could use the debootstrap process to get a fresh installation on the new system drive, but I used that technique during the last system upgrade and it's probably overkill for this.Can I just copy the partitions from the old drive to the new?Will "dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dev/hdb2" work, assuming /dev/hdb2 is larger than /dev/hda1? (If so, the filesystem can be resized to take advantage of the new larger partition, right?)Would parted (or gparted) be a better tool for copying the contents of the partitions?

Nov 7, 2010I decided to give Ubuntu another try and installed the Studio version. During my installation it asked whether I wanted the Realtime kernel or not. I chose yes as I figured it could come in handy when I work with audio.However since this version isn't exactly Ubuntu 10.10 as promoted , I decided to install Ubuntu Desktop on top of it (trough apt-get). For the full experience. ( im not even sure if it just installed extra software and added some folders)Now my questions are:1:The Realtime kernel is it now overwritten by any other kernel that came with the Desktop installation?
2: How will the updates handle my installation once i want to upgrade to, lets say, 11.04.I'm not really sure about how the system will look at things to upgrade. Will it look at my Desktop installation or my Ubuntu Studio? ( concerning the Realtime kernel as well).Just to add some more: I'm a total Linux Noob(although im not scared to use the Terminal)

Jan 7, 2011Just added another 4Gb to my previous 4Gb. (for no other reason than liking big numbers). And my browser, crashes consecutively, over and over and over again. My motherboards BIOS is up to date and it is able to handle 8Gb, but what is it's issue? Running Ubuntu 10.4 LTS with a virtual Win7 (that also will not boot now). All the updates for Linux are current as well.
