i'm having trouble installing the jre in firefox3.6. I'm using slackware 12.1 which comes with the default firefox 2. Downloaded 3.6 into my systems this is where i install:

I download the jre 6 from the java website and this is where i install:

I create a symbolic link into the firefox3.6 plugin folder using this command:

Double check to see if the link exists:

Restart the firefox and type aboutlugins, the java plugin does not exists. I went to the java website and test to see if jre is install in firefox, but could not detect. This is the permission for the firefox 3.6 dir in the /usr/lib path:

Is there any where i miss or i install the symbolic link in the wrong plugin folder? where does the firefox read its plugins?
I upgraded to a new(er) soundcard this morning on my Slack 13.1 desktop box. I ran alsoconf and got sound working in everything but Firefox flash. It's not specifically a flash problem; flash sound works just fine in Konqueror. It's a Firefox issue. I created the following login script in order to try and force the new card to be recognized as the default:

I recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?
I recently upgraded to slackware-current from Slackware 13 via slackroll, and have only encountered one problem. My file manager no longer thumbnails images, and icons (mostly PNG) aren't appearing no matter what GTK theme is set. Running from the command line produces no errors, and when brought up in something else (say feh /path/to/icon.png) it works perfectly. This is the only hitch I have encountered so far. The same thing happens with emoticons in Pidgin. Does anyone know of a fix?

I was wondering if I'm missing something? I also clicked on yast, searched "firefox", then clicked "upgrade" but still nothing. Thanks and sorry if it's a dumb question.

I have Firefox 2.0.0.20 installed, and I want to upgrade to Firefox 3.5.3.
So I downloaded the firefox-3.5.3.tar.bz2 and opened it with the file-roller and extracted it to /tmp.
In the /tmp/firefox directory, I tried running some of the executable files in there, but I'm getting errors:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Linux Mint Debian Edition. I see that the latest version of firefox is out and I would like to try it. Problem is, it probably wont show up in my package manager for a long, long time.
So I thought I would try to manually install it. I downloaded it and untar'ed the zip fie correctly. Then I copied over my old firefox directory with this one. Didn't work. The old firefox was still getting loaded up. I've done some research and it looks like i have to create a link. I don't know how to do this.
Just added another 4Gb to my previous 4Gb. (for no other reason than liking big numbers). And my browser, crashes consecutively, over and over and over again. My motherboards BIOS is up to date and it is able to handle 8Gb, but what is it's issue? Running Ubuntu 10.4 LTS with a virtual Win7 (that also will not boot now). All the updates for Linux are current as well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedRight now I'm running Jaunty with Firefox 3.0. That's what it comes with. I tried adding FF3.6 using some instructions, adding the repository etc.. But, that was aimed at Karmic users and it triggured all sorts of dependency errors in Synaptic. So things got a bit screwed up. God knows what version I have installed now but it sure isn't 3.6! So tomorrow I plan to do a clean install of of Jaunty. Then I'd like to upgrade to Firefox 3.6. What is the correct and clean way of doing that, adding the correct repository this time? I want to replace 3.0 with 3.6 not have both versions on my system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently upgraded my Firefox browser from version 1.5 to 3.0.4. on Mandriva 2007 Powerpack. I had several problems with the installation, but I need some advice with this one problem.
With the new 3.0.4 installation when I press the "Clear Cache" button within Preferences, a cache does clear somewhere but I get no change of state on the "Clear Cache" button and a blank applet screen appears. If I go into the files to the .../home/scott/.mozilla/firefox/85if17gs.default/Cache folder, I find 54MB of cached files stored. I tried deleting the files through Konqueror and I get a screen saying "I can not delete the files"
I have my cache limited to 50 MB in the Preferences section. Where is the new cache folder ? Should I delete the entire Cache folder ? Will Firefox create a new one ? The /.mozilla/... directory was created with the Firefox 1.5 installation, I never checked to see if the directory had been revised with the upgrade to 3.0.4. Any ideas ?
This is probably a dumb question, but yum seems not to be upgrading Firefox. I have d/loaded the most recent release, untarred the zipfile, and stored it in /tmp. The untar created a directory "firefox", and I am now at a standstill. The README.txt is meaningless, and the run-mozilla.sh script - which looks like it might do something useful - simply issues: run-mozilla.sh cannot execute.
So, what is the Fedora endorsed way to upgrade a user program such as Firefox.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed slackware 13.37 as a fresh install. In firefox, I currently only have the flashplayer plugin installed, no themes, no other add-ons. Firefox will open fine the first time, however after I close it and try to open it again, I get a message saying that firefox is already running and the process must be closed before another session can be opened. Looking through the open processes, firefox-bin still shows open. I can kill -9 firefox-bin and restart firefox, but then I have the same problem after close. I have deleted my .mozilla folder, which did not help and I have deleted the libflashplayer.

Currently I'm debugging the whole thing, and I have a strange error that I can't quite explain.Sometimes when my girlfriend logs in, she gets some strange "Firefox is already running" error. The strange thing here is: ps aux | grep firefox returns absolutely no Firefox process. The only "solution" to convince Firefox to start again is to wipe her ~/.mozilla directory, but by doing this, she loses all her bookmarks and settings.

i've had this problem with all linux distros that i've used, everything is fine except the menu and bookmark fonts in firefox, same in chrome, menu and bookmark fonts are big, anything i tried i could not make it look like the normal font sizes in windows or even Konqueror. and it not that only that it is big fonts, they are also wide.
