View 6 RepliesWe recently upgraded to Microsoft Exchange 8.2.176.0 for our web mail. I've never had it setup for my desktop, I've always had to rely on a browser and access webmail. I'm trying to set it up on my Thunderbird 3 on Debian but it doesn't seem intuitive. I've also tried various ways in Evolution.

In trying to set up SMTP for Thunderbird, I made a mistake in the password, typed the wrong one in, and hit the checkbox to have Lucid remember it. Now it will report a password failure BUT won't allow putting a different password in.
Does anybody know if that password storage is managed by Lucid's keyring system, or Thunderbird's? In either case, where is that bad password located so I can clear it out?
I understand that a movemail account under Thunderbird should be able to pick up local email from the file /var/spool/mail/ralph and put it into the TB Inbox. ralph is my account name and ralph-laptop is my hostname.) However, I don't know how to set it up to make it work. Under TB I go to File>New>Other Accounts, click Unix Mailspool (Movemail), and click next. However, at this point I don't know what to enter. Should the name be ralph (my account name)? Should the email address be ralph@ralph-laptop or my external email address at "mylastname@mchsi.com? Should the outgoing user name be ralph or mylastname (part of my external email address? Should I use my default outgoing server, which sends mail to mail.mchsi.com or should I use ralph@ralph-laptop, or just ralph-laptop?
I am running Lucid and Thunderbird 3.1.4
What's the best way to set up Facebook in Thunderbird 6 so that I can have the news feed populate and continually update? Is it even possible? Also, are the Facebook messages/email functions capable of running in Thunderbird. What I would really like to do is amalgamate all my accounts into Thunderbird and make it my "one stop shop." This includes Facebook integration.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using thunderbird and evolution on my computer at work using IMAP and have been trying to configure both of the clients to access the global address book from the companies exchange 5.5 mail server.
I read this but cannot get any results when I search for a name.

How can I obtain the information that I need from the Exchange 5.5 server to setup my GAL on thunderbird or evolution.
What can I run to get this information?
I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
I've been all afternoon trying to install Ubuntu Lucid on my fakeRAID 0 configured (2) HDDs and am unable to set GRUB up. The fake RAID setup is provided by Intel Matrix Storage Manager, it is correctly enabled and the BIOS is also correctly set up -- in fact, I've managed to install Windows 7 with no significant hitch. After struggling with partioning the drives (had to follow advice I found on a very helpful guide online [0]), creating the filesystems AND getting Ubuntu's installer to actually do what it is supposed to do, I now cannot seem to set GRUB up. My system, as it stands, is unbootable at all; via live CD only.
This is how the RAID0 dev is partitioned:
Code:
# fdisk -l /dev/mapper/isw_ecdeiihbfi_Volume0
Disk /dev/mapper/isw_ecdeiihbfi_Volume0: 1000.2 GB, 1000210694144 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121602 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 131072 bytes / 262144 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x6634b2b5 .....
I run version 10.04 GNOME. My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). The only results on the internet are share Thunderbird between Windows and Ubuntu.
I have two users juliusz and sarah. I need either of them to have the same profile, always in synch whenever they logon to own account. When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
I have installed 11.4, and it seems (seemed) to work OK so far. I installed Thunderbird via the opensuse "1 click install". the installation ran smoothly, but now a click on the Thunderbird icon does not activate any mail client; the only success is that Thunderbird icon jumps joyfully and then disappears.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI wish to make a shortcut which write my name in Thunderbird.Well, my name has an accent in it and I'm really fed up with doing "Insert -> Characters and Symbols" at the end of each of each of my messages, either in my languages or in English. So, I'm looking for a way to write it in just one click or one command.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has decided to give linux a try. I've installed Mint Linux 10 for her.Last week (bad timing) I converted her to Thunderbird. Now I have the task of moving all her mail folders and account settings from Thunderbird under Windows 7 to Thunderbird under linux.Other postings say all I have to do is copy the Windows profile directory to her home directory and rename it .thunderbird.
Doesn't work. When I start Thunderbird all it displays is a window for new account details.I tried just copying the <gibberish>.default directory across and renaming it to the one that was there. Again, no luck. Before it started using sqlite things were simple!I backed up with MozBackup, and then noticed that it only works with Windows.
I try to add comp.os.linux.misc newsgroup in Thunderbird account, but cant subscribe. It says "Failed to connect to server comp.os.linux.misc". I know I make mistake on writing the adress, but don't know how to write it. I found on google the name of the group, but no server.
I try also comp.os.linux.misc@googlegroups.com, but can't subscribe too.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Thunderbird on Ubuntu Linux and have just upgraded to Ubuntu 10 / Thunderbird 3. One of my gripes however is that Thunderbird uses a number of shortcut keys that have no secondary key requirements, for example, "Mark as Read" is M. Not ControlM. Just M. Worse, "Mark as Junk" is J. Which means I sometimes inadvertently mark messages as Junk.
How can I customize Thunderbird's shortcuts so, for example, "Mark as Junk" is ControlJ?
Any way to get my sent messages out of gmail into my thunderbird. Right now it's getting my incoming messages perfectly using POP but I'm not syncing to my sent messages which is an issue because I have a lot of important stuff in my sent mail inside of gmail. Before I had it all in thunderbird (don't remember how) but I decided to try thunderbird 3 (couldn't keep it because calendar kept screwing up) so I downgraded and now I can't get those messages to show up again. I checked gmail and those sent messages are still there.

In getting my Fedora 15 installation up and running (which it mostly is, now, thanks to help from LQ!) I am at the point of installing thunderbird so that I can send/receive email. It seems to install fine, but when setting up the account it says that my username/password is not recognized. I know that I am typing them in right, and if I go directly to gmail with firefox rather than through thunderbird they work OK. Any thoughts? (I am also posting to the thunderbird forum at mozilla.)

Though it works for other email client (Evolution). I there a problem with the thunderbird itself or am I missing something special to configure that I dont know of?
From reading around the web, it looks like Firefox's "quick view" of an RSS feed sometimes lets you "Subscribe to this feed using" Thunderbird. For whatever reason, that's not an automatically-added option with my setup (FF 3.5.something + Thunderbird 3.0.something on Linux), so I figured I could just "Choose Application...", point at the Thunderbird binary, and be on my way. Not so -- nothing appears to happen. If I run thunderbird from the command line as
thunderbird "http://path/to/feed" the app launches as normal. If it's already running, absolutely nothing happens. Is this impossible? Is there some mojo I can pass Firefox to tell it that Thunderbird exists? Should I just suck it up and copy/paste the URLs manually?
My Linux laptop has recently been hanging for no apparent reason, and so I have been using a Mac OS X laptop in the meantime. I just installed Thunderbird and wanted to copy all my preferences and account settings to the new laptop. All email accounts are IMAP based. Can I simply copy the data, or does Thunderbird for OS X store data in a different format from OS X? What about if I wanted to copy the preferences to Thunderbird under Windows? Finally, what files do I copy? I haven't powered up the Linux laptop yet but I'm guessing there's a ~/.thunderbird/ directory, can I just copy this to the Mac?
